CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 5/7 Clemson got runners on in every inning but was only able to bring one home as the Tigers fell to RV/RV Missouri, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon. Clemson tallied 6 hits, with redshirt senior Valerie Cagle and junior Alex Brown leading the way with two each. Brown also plated to lone run for the Tigers.
Missouri got on the board in the bottom of the first following back-to-back hits. Missouri added two more later in the inning to hold a 3-0 lead. The Black and Gold plated one more in the bottom of the second to push their advantage to four.
The Orange and Regalia began the first five innings strong with the leadoff batter reaching via a hit, walk or hit by pitch. They were able to load the bases and convert a run with two outs after Maddie Moore connected with a pitch that allowed Brown to score. Clemson made one final push in the top of the seventh after Brown singled to open the inning, but the Tigers left her stranded to fall to Missouri, 4-1.
Clemson used a pitching staff in the weekend finale that began with junior Brooke McCubbin striking out two before being replaced by senior Millie Thompson. Thompson struck out two before her senior counterpart, Regan Spencer, entered in relief. Spencer pitched three innings without giving up a run and struck out two. Cagle entered the circle for the final inning of work and struck out one.
