Wisconsin top transfer target commits to an SEC school

Wisconsin top remaining transfer portal target, Mi’Quise Grace, committed to Kentucky on Sunday.

Grace, a Football Championship Subdivision All-American at South Dakota in 2024, chose the Wildcats over Wisconsin, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Mississippi State. Wisconsin hosted Grace on a visit this month.

The transfer is 247Sports’ No. 70 overall player in the portal and the No. 11 edge rusher. He joins the Wildcats after that mentioned All-American season, which included 58 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two pass deflections.

In addition to being named a first-team All-American, Grace’s top-end production also earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honors.

He joins a Kentucky program that went 4-8 in 2024. That down year followed a streak of eight consecutive bowl-eligible seasons dating to 2016.

Wisconsin has continued to pursue pass-rushing talent and depth at this late stage in the transfer cycle. It recently watched Grace choose Kentucky, Ohio transfer Bradley Weaver commit to Rutgers and Michigan transfer Owen Wafle land at Penn State.

The Badgers have landed several players at the position: Mason Reiger (Louisville), Tyreese Fearbry (Kentucky) and Michael Garner (Grambling State). Still, the program is working hard to bolster a defensive front that tallied 1.3 sacks per game in 2024 (No. 120 in the nation).

Grace was one of the program’s final reported visits. As of now, it doesn’t seem poised for another winter window splash. It will, however, have the chance to revisit the position during the spring transfer window in April.

Wisconsin has landed 19 transfers during the winter window. That class ranks 13th in the 247Sports’ national rankings and third in the Big Ten.

Kentucky football adds an FCS All-American edge rusher

Kentucky gets a commitment from an All-American edge rusher from the transfer portal.

Coach Mark Stoops and the Kentucky football team are in the process of completely transforming the roster. On Sunday, they added yet another piece from the transfer portal in the form of edge rusher Mi’Quise Grace.

Grace comes to Lexington after playing at the Football Championship Subdivision level for South Dakota. While there, he developed into a high level pass rusher and an impact player on the defensive side of the ball.

The 2024 season was a big one for Grace. He recorded over 60 tackles, with 18.5 of them coming for a loss. He had 9.5 sacks and forced 2 fumbles as well, and returned one for a touchdown.

Grace was named an FCS All-American for his play last season. He was also named the Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Year.

It is another very good addition by the Kentucky staff, and one that could pay off right away for the Wildcats.

247Sports ranks the four-star transfer recruit as the No. 67 overall player in the portal and the No. 11 edge rusher. He’s also No. 10 on On3’s latest list of the top available transfers.

Grace is fresh off a breakout 2024 season that included 58 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two pass deflections. He performed well in the Coyotes’ Week 2 game against Wisconsin, recording five solo tackles and a sack.

The Football Championship Subdivision transfer was recently named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and an AP First-Team All-American (FCS).

Wisconsin is still pursuing top edge-rusher talent even after landing two transfers at the position — Mason Reiger (Louisville) and Tyreese Fearbry (Kentucky). The Badgers are set to enter 2025 with those two as primary rotation members along with Darryl Peterson, Aaron Witt, Sebastian Cheeks and Thomas Heiberger.

Wisconsin has landed commitments from 19 transfers to date (18 scholarship, one walk-on). They continue their work in the portal after seeing 24 players depart during the winter window.
