Vikings CB Marcus Sherels listed as a training camp hero

Marcus Sherels has become one of the best special teams players in Vikings history, but before that, he had to impress the team in training camp.

Marcus Sherels started as a walk-on for the home-state Gophers before he became one of the Vikings’ best special teams players of all time.

Sherels finished his collegiate career with four interceptions. Then, Sherels signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent.

In order to succeed in the NFL, many undrafted free agents have to impress coaches early in the preseason in order to stay on the team. Sherels’ case was no different.

Bleacher Report listed him among the players who were training camp heroes. Here is what the outlet said about the Vikings return specialist:

“It took a couple of training camps for cornerback and return specialist Marcus Sherels to earn a prominent opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings. The undrafted free agent out of Minnesota earned a spot on the practice squad in 2010, and he then earned the returner gig during 2011 training camp.”

The rest is history. Sherels is the franchise’s all-time leader in punt return yards with 2,480 in total.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reported that Sherels is a 50-50 decision on retiring this offseason. He is not under contract and the Vikings have yet to re-sign him.

Due to coronavirus, Vikings deferring final payments for season-ticket holders

The Vikings announced that they are pushing back the deadline for final payments on season tickets to June 1.

Minnesota is deferring payments to a later date for season-ticket holders due to the coronavirus pandemic, the team announced Friday.

The Vikings’ original deadline for payments was April 16. It has since been moved to June 1.

Here is part of the message the team sent out to season-ticket holders, as obtained by the Pioneer Press:

“First and foremost, we hope you and your family continue to be safe and healthy during these difficult times. We understand the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 has created a number of challenges and stresses for each of us as we adapt to the rapidly evolving news along with changing family, work and community responsibilities. In an effort to be respectful of the current circumstances, we have made the decision to defer your final season ticket payment scheduled for Thursday, April 16, to Monday, June 1. Given that you are enrolled in automatic withdrawal, there is nothing you need to do to take advantage of this change as we will enroll you in the adjusted payment plan.”

The team also told the ticket holders to “please continue to make your health and safety, and that of your family, the top priority in the coming weeks.”
