The Minnesota Timberwolves (46-21) play the 2nd game of a back-to-back with the Utah Jazz (29-38) Monday at Delta Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Timberwolves vs. Jazz odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: Timberwolves lead 3-0; Minnesota won 119-110 on Saturday, covering a 7.5-point spread as the Under (224.5) cashed in the 1st meeting in Salt Lake City this season

The Timberwolves have won 2 in a row on the road, while averaging 118.5 points per game (PPG) with 100.0 PPG allowed. The T-wolves have won 4 of the past 6 games, too, while the Over is 3-1 in the previous 4 contests. Minnesota has cashed the Under in each game against Utah this season.

The Jazz have dropped 4 of the past 5 games, while covering just once in the past 4 contests. The Over is on a 5-1-1 run in the past 7 games, with the lone exception an Under against Minnesota on Saturday. The Over is 3-1-1 in the past 5 home games.

Timberwolves at Jazz picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 118, Jazz 107

Moneyline

The Timberwolves (-350) are a risky play, costing 3 1/2 times your potential return. That’s a crazy bet, but it is especially so if Gobert, a.k.a. “The Stifle Tower”, cannot play against his former team. Gobert missed the front end of the set, and although Naz Reid filled in admirably, it makes Minnesota super risky.

PASS, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

The TIMBERWOLVES -8 (-110) are worth playing lightly, even if Gobert is deemed unable to go. He missed Saturday’s game, yet Minnesota was still able to take care of business. If he is active, then go a little more aggressively.

The Jazz +8 (-110) are in a nosedive, dropping 4 of the past 5 games outright, while going just 3-12 SU. More importantly, Utah is an awful 5-10 ATS in the past 15 games.

Over/Under

OVER 222.5 (-108) is worth a look in this rematch.

The Under cashed in the front end of the set, although Minnesota certainly did its part with 119 points scored. The Over is 5-1-1 in the past 7 games for the Jazz, while the Timberwolves have ended up going high on the total in 3 of the past 4 outings, and 6 of the previous 9 contests.

Timberwolves at Jazz odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Jazz 125, Timberwolves 108

Money line

PASS on the money line. The Jazz are rolling and playing too well to pick the Wolves to win, especially missing their top players. And, having to bet more than eight times what you can win means it isn’t worth a money line bet on the Jazz.

Look at the spread and the total for value.

Against the spread

The Timberwolves are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games but they have only covered the spread twice in their last 9 losses. They suffered a 32-point loss to the Jazz already.

The Jazz have won 13 of their last 15 games but have covered the spread in only 7 of those 15 games. 8 of their 13 wins in the last 15, though, have been by at least 11 points.

The Jazz are too good and the Wolves are too shorthanded for this to be a competitive game.

Take the JAZZ -11.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The last two games for the Timberwolves have stayed Under the projected total, but 8 of the previous 11 games went Over the projection.

Only 4 of the last 10 games for the Jazz have hit the Over. They have scored 120 points or more in seven of their last 11 games, which means the Wolves would only need to pass the century mark.

Their first matchup had a 240-point total.

Take OVER 221.5 (-110).

Timberwolves at Clippers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clippers 119, Timberwolves 111

Money line (ML)

PASS. I cannot find a pro-Timberwolves (+400) money line argument nor will I risk five-and-a-half times my potential return on anyone, including the Clippers (-550), in regular-season NBA action.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Clippers got an all-time can of a** whoopin’ opened upon them Sunday by the Dallas Mavericks, losing 124-73 as 3-point home favorites. It was Los Angeles’ first game without MVP contender Leonard, who’s dealing with the physical ramifications stemming from him and teammate C Serge Ibaka‘s collision for a loose ball in their Christmas Day victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Minnesota didn’t play much better Sunday against the Clippers’ Staples Center co-tenants, the Los Angeles Lakers, as the Timberwolves were boat raced in a 127-91 loss. The Timberwolves were also without their best player in All-Star C Anthony Towns, who’s out with a dislocated left wrist.

There are a couple of reasons why I lean TIMBERWOLVES +10.5 (-110). First, the betting market is so one-sided—97% of the money coming in on the Clippers according to Pregame.com—which has moved the line up from the opening line of -6.5. It’s a natural reaction for me to want to fade the masses.

Second, the Timberwolves drubbed the Clippers 142-115 in their final regular-season meeting last year. KAT was Minnesota’s third-leading scorer in that game and both Kawhi and SG Paul George played and scored 20-plus points.

If anything, I’d put a tiny wager on the TIMBERWOLVES +10.5 (-110) because I much prefer the total.

Over/Under (O/U)

GIMME OVER 226.5 (-110) for 1.5 units. Both offenses are due for bounce-back performances after their previous no-shows. Plus, this another Timberwolves-Clippers betting market that we can fade.

More than 80% of the money is on the Under. My theory is that it’s a brainless, robotic response to both teams being without their best scorers. The injury reports for both teams are baked into this line already.

Also, the total was originally posted at 229.5 and we might be able to get an even smaller total closer to tip-off. Even if this game is as lopsided as the market or BetMGM is saying, this Over can still hit if either team gets hot from three.

Timberwolves at Jazz: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jazz 115, Timberwolves 108

Money line (ML)

The Jazz are in their home opener and the Wolves are playing on the road for the first time this season. Utah was stellar at home last season, going 21-10, while Minnesota was 11-21 on the road (before the bubble. It is early in the season, but Utah is the more talented team and won’t want to lose their first game at home. Take JAZZ (-400).

Against the spread (ATS)

Both teams won their season opener and covered the spread as favorites. Neither team was good against the spread last season. Minnesota had the league’s lowest cover percentage at 37.1% while Utah wasn’t much better at 47.4%.

The Wolves were 16-15 ATS on the road and Utah was 13-16 ATS at home. We don’t have much to go by this season, only one game in, but those trends from last season are enough to feel good about going WOLVES +9.5 (-120).

Over/Under (O/U)

Both teams’ season openers went Under. Last season, both teams went Over more than Under. Minnesota had a 56.2% Over percentage and Utah had an Over percentage of 54.5%. That said, the season is very early and teams do not yet have the rhythm they will have later on in the year. This total feels high. Take UNDER 228.5 (-110).
