Analyzing Wednesday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Toronto Raptors odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Toronto Raptors welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves to Scotiabank Arena Wednesday as both teams will kick off the 2023-24 NBA season with the 7:30 p.m. ET tip. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Timberwolves vs. Raptors odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; teams split 2 games last season, each winning at home

The Raptors had a disappointing season last year, ending with a 41-41 record and the 9th seed in the Western Conference and losing the play-in game to  the Chicago Bulls. With no premier offseason additions, they hope F Scottie Barnes, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, can take another step forward to help F Pascal Siakam, who led the team at 24.2 points per game. Toronto was 41-42 against the spread (ATS) last season.

The Timberwolves were 42-40 last season and ended with a 44-45 ATS record (playoffs included). Minnesota was eliminated in 5 games by the NBA Championship-winning Denver Nuggets. The Timberwolves will again be led by former No. 1 overall picks G Anthony Edwards and F Karl-Anthony Towns.

Timberwolves at Raptors picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 114, Raptors 107

Moneyline

BET TIMBERWOLVES (-120).

The Raptors lost an important piece of their roster this offseason as G Fred VanVleet took his talents to Houston. VanVleet averaged 19.3 PPG last season and over 17 per game for Toronto over the last four seasons. His absence will be felt.

On the other hand, the Timberwolves should see notable improvements from Edwards, who played with Team USA in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. He should blossom into an all-out superstar after averaging 24.6 PPG last season. The Timberwolves should have a better early-season identity having not lost any star power.

Minnesota was 8-5 straight up last season as a road favorite. Back it to come out on top and take TIMBERWOLVES (-120).

Against the spread

PASS.

With the Wolves on the road and Scotiabank likely rocking to star the season, pass on the tiny spread and play Minnesota to win outright.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 222.5 (-110).

Both teams have strong front court presences. The Timberwolves have C Rudy Gobert, and the Raptors have F Chris Boucher and C Precious Achiuwa on their bench. Both teams ranked in the top 11 in defensive rating last season as well and should see similar success this year.

The Raptors also ranked 25th in pace and didn’t add any high-pace players. Expect a slow game and the length of both front courts to play a factor defensively. Take UNDER 222.5 (-110).

Minnesota Timberwolves at Toronto Raptors odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Toronto Raptors and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (43-33) meet the Toronto Raptors (43-32) Wednesday at the Scotiabank Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Timberwolves vs. Raptors odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Minnesota has lost 3 of its last 4 games — 1-3 against the spread (ATS) — following a 4-game winning streak (4-0 ATS). The T-Wolves were drubbed by the Celtics 134-112 Sunday in Boston as 6-point road underdogs.

Toronto has won 4 of its last 5 (3-2 ATS) including 3 straight home games versus the Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday (117-104), Indiana Pacers Saturday (131-91) and Celtics Monday (115-112 in overtime).

The Raptors upset the T-Wolves 103-91 in Minnesota Feb. 16 as 1.5-point road underdogs. Toronto outperformed Minnesota in three of the “four factors” and outscored the T-Wolves 31-17 in the fourth quarter.

Timberwolves at Raptors odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Raptors 115, Timberwolves 109

Money line

PASS  with a heavy “lean” towards the Raptors (-150) because this is at the fringe of my price range.

But, I’m confident enough in Toronto to lay the points at the moment and if we wait until closer to tip-off there could be a better price for the Raptors since money is pouring in on the Timberwolves (+122).

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET the RAPTORS -2.5 (-120)  for 1.25 units because this is a great spot for them and Toronto coach Nick Nurse is a defensive whiz who can make life difficult for Minnesota All-Star big Karl-Anthony Towns.

For instance, KAT is a legit center with the ball-handling and shot-making skills of a wing. But Nurse is known to employ many different defensive looks and Toronto has the length and size in the frontcourt to defend KAT anywhere on the floor.

Furthermore, the Raptors are 12-6 ATS at home versus teams with a winning record, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games versus the T-Wolves and 12-3 ATS as 1-to-2.5-point favorites.

Minnesota is 5-13-1 ATS on the road versus winning teams, 3-8 ATS as 1-to-2.5-point underdogs and 1-7 ATS in the last 8 games as road underdogs.

BET the RAPTORS -2.5 (-120).

Over/Under

PASS  because my numbers say this game falls short of the total but these teams have a combined 51-26 O/U record when playing teams with a winning record. Also, the first Raptors-Timberwolves meeting went Under the total by 34.5 points so this meeting could ping pong Over the total.

Timberwolves at Raptors: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Raptors 124, Timberwolves 108

Money line (ML)

The Raptors will win this game comfortably, but we can’t risk the chalky -350 odds for the simple outright win. PASS on the money line and look to the spread.

Toronto is riding a five-game win streak over Minnesota dating back to January 2018.

Against the spread (ATS)

Back the RAPTORS -7.5 (-115) to win by at least 8 points for a proper return on investment. They were playing their best basketball of the season on the road before stumbling against the rival Celtics in the final game of the extended trip. Toronto covered the spread in each of its last five victories and four of those came by a double-digit margin.

Minnesota has lost four straight games but is 6-1-1 ATS in its last eight outings. Its losses during the span came by margins of 2, 3, 2, 5, 7 and 6 points.

Toronto’s just too deep right now and is finally getting consistent top-flight production out of PF Pascal Siakam and G’s Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet. Minnesota holds its opponents to just 30.7 3-point attempts to rank atop the Association, but it allows a success rate of 37.6% from behind the arc.

The Raptors take the third-most 3-pointers and are fifth in success rate.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 230.5 (-110) while being able to count on the Raptors for the bulk of the scoring.

Toronto has played to eight straight Overs with both the Raps and their opponent topping 100 points in 11 straight games. Minnesota has hit four straight Overs behind the league’s 26th-ranked scoring defense (115.8 points allowed per game).
