Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (5-7) take on the Memphis Grizzlies (8-4) Friday at FedExForum. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Timberwolves vs. Grizzlies odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Timberwolves have gotten off to a slow start to the season despite the acquisition of C Rudy Gobert. Minnesota fell to the Phoenix Suns (who were without G Chris Paul) Wednesday by the score of 129-117, failing to cover as a 2-point favorite at home.

The Grizzlies bounced back from a narrow loss to the Boston Celtics on Monday with a 124-122 overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday, however, they fell short of covering as 6-point favorites. Memphis has won 4 of its last 5 games and is 5th in the Western Conference.

Timberwolves at Grizzlies picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 115, Timberwolves 108

Moneyline

I’ll PASS on wagering on Memphis (-190) Friday due to the steep odds. It’s fine taking the Grizzlies’ moneyline for parlays, but I wouldn’t recommend taking them straight up at their current odds.

Against the spread

GRIZZLIES -4.5 (-115) is the ideal choice in this game with the Timberwolves struggling to play consistent basketball with Gobert in the lineup. Meanwhile, G Ja Morant and G Desmond Bane have been a dynamic duo for Memphis.

Minnesota is 0-6 ATS in its last 6 games against a team with a winning record. The Timberwolves are also 7-19 ATS in their last 26 meetings with the Grizzlies in Memphis and are 7-18 ATS in the last 25 meetings overall.

Over/Under

Even with both of these teams having talented scorers, UNDER 234.5 (-112) is where I’m leaning in this game. The Timberwolves have a slightly improved defense with Gobert as they are tied for the 15th-best defensive rating in the NBA.

The Timberwolves have hit the Under in each of their last 5 road games. On the other hand, the Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between Minnesota and Memphis.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies Game 5 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies Game 5 lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (2-2) head back to the FedExForum Tuesday for Game 5 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series with the Memphis Grizzlies (2-2). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and airs on TNT. Below, we look at the Timberwolves vs. Grizzlies Game 5 odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Minnesota evened the series by winning Game 4 119-118 Saturday in what was a redemption game for T-Wolves big Karl-Anthony Towns who scored just 8 points in 32:46 minutes of work in Game 3.

Grizzlies SG Desmond Bane and backup PF Brandon Clarke stepped up Saturday with Bane scoring a game-high 34 points and Clarke adding 15 points on 77.8% shooting off the bench.

The T-Wolves outperformed the Grizzlies in three of the “four factors” in Game 4, especially in free-throw attempt rate where Minnesota nearly doubled Memphis.

Timberwolves at Grizzlies picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 116, Timberwolves 113

Money line

LEAN to the TIMBERWOLVES (+205) because of the fat payout and Minnesota is getting better play from their stars.

KAT got ripped for his Game 3 performance, and rightfully so, but he is averaging 21.3 points on 70.7% true shooting (.565/.417/.875) with 10.8 rebounds. T-Wolves SF Anthony Edwards is scoring a series-best 24.8 points on 65.4% true shooting (.485/.421/.864).

On the other hand Grizzlies PG Ja Morant, the league’s Most Improved Player, is struggling from the field with a 42.3% effective field goal shooting rate. PF Jaren Jackson Jr. has a minus-10 net rating and has gotten at least 5 fouls in three games this series.

The T-Wolves plus the points is a sharp play and I typically like sprinkling on an underdog’s ML when betting them to cover the spread.

These teams have similar identities but the Grizzlies are more efficient and the home team for a pivotal Game 5.

Hence LEAN TIMBERWOLVES (+205).

The prediction is an honest assessment of Game 5.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

Definitely BET TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-120) instead of or heavier than their ML based on the previous analysis and because there’s reverse line movement headed towards Minnesota in the betting market.

Game 5’s look-ahead line was “Grizzlies -7” and has been lowered down to the current number despite a majority of the action being on Memphis, according to Tipico Sportsbook.

There also isn’t 6 points worth of difference between these teams. They are tied 2-2 ATS in the series but the Grizzlies’ Game 3 win and cover featured their incredible comeback from down 26 points. The T-Wolves were clearly the right side for Game 3.

The TIMBERWOLVES PLUS THE POINTS is my favorite bet in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 231.5 (-112) because the total has been steamed down by sharp line movement, both teams have a below-average offensive rating in these playoffs and the Under has cashed in four of the last six Timberwolves-Grizzlies.

However, I cannot fully get there on the Under because this is the fastest-paced series in the postseason with the highest free-throw attempt rate.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies Game 1 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies Game 1 and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies host the No. 7 seed Minnesota Timberwolves Saturday for Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series. Tip-off at the FedExForum is set for 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we look at the Timberwolves vs. Grizzlies odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Minnesota punched its ticket into the postseason by beating the Los Angeles Clippers 109-104 Tuesday in the first play-in game.

Memphis wrapped up the No. 2 seed weeks ago and were 1-3 straight up (SU) and 1-2-1 against the spread (ATS) in the last 4 games as a result.

The Grizzlies were 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS versus the Timberwolves this season with the Over/Under (O/U) going 2-2.

Timberwolves at Grizzlies picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 117, Grizzlies 114

Money line

SPRINKLE on the TIMBERWOLVES (+220) if at all. Their spread is the sharper play but there’s some value in the ML.

Both of these teams have similar identities, but the Grizzlies are more efficient, which is why they should win this series.

However, in this game, I see the T-wolves riding the momentum of their play-in victory over the Clippers like the Grizzlies did last season when they upset the then-No. 1 seed Utah Jazz in Game 1.

Furthermore, both Minnesota PG D’Angelo Russell and C Karl-Anthony Towns have played very well versus Memphis this season.

Russell averaged 31.0 points on 70.8% true shooting (.558/.463/.792) with a plus-22 net rating in the 4 regular-season games against the Grizzlies. Memphis has a tough frontcourt defense, but KAT averaged 23.3 points in those 4 games on 52.1% shooting with a plus-9 net rating.

Again, the plan is to hit Minnesota’s spread harder but I’ll SPRINKLE on the TIMBERWOLVES (+220).

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

BET TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-110) instead of or heavier than their ML because there aren’t 3 possessions worth of difference between these two teams entering Game 1.

Maybe as the series goes on Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins uses his more talented roster to make adjustments that would make the Grizzlies a sharp play.

Also, there’s reverse-line movement headed in Minnesota’s direction since most of the money and action is on Memphis, but the Grizzlies have gone from 7-point favorites on the opener down to the current number (per Pregame.com).

Since it seems like the House wants more pro-Grizzlies money, let’s get on the same side as the bookmakers by BETTING TIMBERWOLVES +6.5 (-110).

Over/Under

PASS because this is a “sharp” total, we are getting the worst of the number since this game opened at 235 and there could be fewer possessions in Timberwolves-Grizzlies for this playoff atmosphere.

Minnesota is 30-11 O/U versus teams with a winning record this season and Memphis is 21-18-2 O/U with a plus-1.7 total margin at home, so if anything, I “lean” to the Over.

Memphis Grizzlies at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Minnesota Timberwolves odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves (31-28) host the Memphis Grizzlies (41-19) Thursday at Target Center for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Grizzlies vs. Timberwolves odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Memphis had a 6-game winning streak snapped in a 123-119 home loss to Portland Trail Blazers Feb. 16 heading into the All-Star break. The Grizzlies, who were 12-point favorites, failed to cover the spread for the first time in seven games.

Minnesota is 6-3 straight up (SU) and 5-3-1 against the spread (ATS) in February. The Timberwolves lost as 1.5-point home favorites to the Toronto Raptors 103-91 Feb. 16 in their most recent outing.

The Grizzlies are 2-1 SU/ATS versus the T-Wolves this season with a 2-1 Over/Under record.

Grizzlies at Timberwolves odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Grizzlies 119, Timberwolves 112

Money line

BET GRIZZLIES (-150) for 1.25 units.

They have a similar identity as the Timberwolves but are much more consistent and efficient.

Both teams pressure ball handlers, crash the glass and get out in transition. But the Grizzlies are ninth in adjusted offensive-turnover rate (TOV%), second in transition points added per 100 possessions and first in adjusted offensive-rebounding rate, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

On the other hand, the T-Wolves are 18th in adjusted offensive TOV%, last in adjusted defensive-rebounding rate and 27th in fast-break points per game allowed.

These are most likely the reasons behind Memphis’ dominance over Minnesota in recent seasons. The Grizzlies are 8-1 SU/ATS in their nine eight meetings with the T-Wolves.

Minnesota’s lone victory was a 43-point beatdown (138-95) at home Nov. 20. Perhaps, that’s why we are getting the GRIZZLIES (-150) at a cheap price.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

LEAN GRIZZLIES -2.5 (-120) because I’d play their money line all the way up to -165. Either way, the Grizzlies are the right side.

Memphis is 9-2 ATS as a road favorite (plus-6.7 ATS margin) and 8-4 ATS on the road versus teams with a winning record. Minnesota is 4-5 ATS as a home underdog and 2-6 ATS as an underdog getting 1 to 2.5 points.

If Memphis’ ML goes north of -165, then I’d bet the GRIZZLIES -2.5 (-120) up to 4.5-point favorites.

Over/Under

PASS.

I have a slight “lean” toward the Under 238.5 (-107) as a fade against the Over-friendly situational trends. Most of the market will probably bet the Over.

The T-Wolves rank 17th in effective field-goal shooting (eFG%), the Grizzlies rank 24th in eFG% and both teams have a below-average adjusted offensive free-throw rate.

But I’m staying away from an Under wager because both teams rank top six in pace and 10th or better in offensive rating.
