Newark quarterback Miles McEachin makes his college pick

Miles McEachin made his college decision on Sunday.

Miles McEachin, a class of 2022 quarterback, has selected Hampton University in an announcement made on Sunday afternoon during a celebration at his home.

McEachin had a final four that also included Ole Miss, Pittsburgh and Rutgers. He selected Hampton as a Preferred Walk-On (PWO) opportunity.

McEachin is a high-academic student, boasting a 4.0 G.P.A. at the prestigious Science Park High School. He is a quarterback prospect.

He said that the opportunity presented by Hampton on and off the football field was the deciding factor in his decision. Planning to major in biology, he said that the school’s Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) program was especially appealing.

McEachin hopes to work in the field of neuroscience.

“At Hampton, biology is directly connected to neuroscience,” McEachin told Rutgers Wire on Monday morning.

“I can apply for the MARC program which is basically a full academic scholarship.”

He is excited for the opportunity to play at the next level. Hampton currently has four quarterbacks on their roster.

They finished last season 5-6.

“So I’m going there to play quarterback, I understand it is a process for me to work my way onto the field, coming in as a freshman. I’m going to go there, work my way academically and work my way onto the field,” McEachin said.

“I’m ready, ready for the opportunity academically, ready to compete in athletics and getting to the highest level I can.”

He is currently running track which he says will help him for conditioning when he arrives on campus in August. He competes in the 4×400 relay, the triple jump and the long jump.

“I’m running track right now so my wind is pretty good to run ‘400s’ and triple jumps and long jumps,” McEachin said.

“I actually had a meet on Saturday where I did all three. Jumping a lot and running, especially the ‘400’, is good for conditioning is good. It isn’t a sprint but it is good for conditioning. This summer, it is mostly going to be me lifting and getting bigger. There are guys around I can work with on the field.”
