WWE SmackDown preview 06/09/23: What now, Usos?

WWE SmackDown from Des Moines has the latest chapter in the Bloodline drama plus four Money in the Bank qualifying matches.

The Usos might be “the ones,” but headed into tonight’s WWE SmackDown in Des Moines, they’re about to find out if that’s the loneliest number like the old song says.

It’s not a worry they’ve had for a while, since they’ve been steadfast members of The Bloodline. Alas, Jimmy Uso has been chafing under Roman Reigns’ leadership for weeks, which came to a head when he superkicked the Tribal Chief at Night of Champions.

The Usos’ attempt to patch things up last week with a plea for brotherhood and respect fell on deaf ears, with Solo Sikoa standing with Reigns and giving Jimmy a Samoan Spike. Jimmy and Jey will appear on SmackDown tonight, and fans will be watching to see what they say and do next — not to mention whether Solo might be waiting for them.

The rest of the show will be largely built around Money in the Bank qualifying matches for both the men’s and women’s Ladder matches. Bayley will take on Michin, while Shotzi battles IYO SKY to fill two of the remaining slots in the women’s match. With Damage CTRL seemingly not as tight as it once was, it will be interesting to see if Bayley and SKY both end up advancing.

On the men’s side, Baron Corbin will attempt to reverse his misfortune as of late when he faces Butch. And the LWO’s Santos Escobar goes one-on-one with Mustafa Ali. By the end of the night, we’ll know five of the six men and women who will compete for the briefcases in London.

That plus the latest developments in the Bloodline saga should make this a show worth watching, no doubt. It all goes down as usual starting at 8 p.m. on FOX, and we’ll have live results starting at that time as well.

WWE Raw results: Brock laughs, Trish confesses, and a bargain breaks down

Find out what happened as The Judgment Day battled Matt Riddle, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in the main event.

When you’re a WWE legend, sometimes you just do whatever you want and you don’t have to gives your reasons why until after the fact. That’s an idea that’s relevant to two of the big subplots for tonight’s episode of WWE Raw from North Little Rock.

First, there’s Brock Lesnar. Cody Rhodes actually thought he was going to tag up to face the Bloodline together, and why not? Lesnar certainly has no love for Roman Reigns, and besides, this was Cowboy Brock. The guy with the big hat and the bigger smile. Surely, Cody could trust him.

As it turned out, not so much. Rhodes shifted naturally from disappointment (and pain) to seeking some payback, and challenged Lesnar to a match at Backlash. Tonight should give us an inkling about whether he’s going to accept.

It was ever so slightly less shocking when Trish Stratus assaulted Becky Lynch after they lost the tag team titles together — or rather, Stratus lost the belts that didn’t even belong to her — because, well, Trish has done this before. But whether The Man really thought Stratus was her ride or die or not, what’s done is done, and now Trish is supposedly going to tell the WWE Universe why she did what she did.

Oh, and Becky says she won’t be there, but we shall see.

Also on tap for tonight, Austin Theory takes on Bobby Lashley in a battle of old enemies, and The Miz faces Seth Rollins as he continues to try to wash the memory of losing to Snoop Dogg away. Sorry, Miz, not going to happen as long as video exists.

You can catch all this and more starting at 8 p.m. ET on USA, when we’ll also be watching and updating this post with live WWE Raw results as they happen. See you then.

WWE Raw results: Cody challenges Brock, KO fights on one leg but not alone

Live WWE Raw results for April 10, 2023 in Seattle, with Cody Rhodes addressing the fallout from his assault by Brock Lesnar last week.

Poor Cody Rhodes. All he wanted to do was to keep fighting those mean jerks in the Bloodline, and it seemed like he even had a strong new friend to help him do it last week on Raw.

Then Brock Lesnar viciously attacked him, proving that even though there was a happy go lucky Cowboy Brock under his mean jerk exterior, there was, in fact, another mean jerk underneath Cowboy Brock. Who knew?

Since Roman Reigns doesn’t seem inclined to give Rhodes the rematch he wants, Cody now has to probably do a program with Brock. The good news is that Lesnar doesn’t work every week. The bad news is that, well, when you get in the ring with Lesnar, you have to get in the ring with Lesnar. Suplex City and all that.

Anyway, the fallout from that attack is supposed to go down tonight in Seattle, whatever that turns out to be.

You may also be interested to know that there’s a tag team title match slated for this episode of Raw. Becky Lynch and Lita were two-thirds of a winning team at WrestleMania 39, but now they’ve got to settle in and start defending their championship. They’ll take the first stab at that tonight against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, who should at the very least compete against them in a straightforward and respectful manner.

Earlier today, WWE also promoted this episode as the in-ring return of Matt Riddle against The Miz, but that match is no longer mentioned in the preview on the company’s website, so we’re assuming it got scrapped for some reason.

That leaves a lot of time to fill with other stuff, so we’ll just have to wait and see what else is in store. Tune in to USA at 8 p.m. ET to watch, or pop back in here as we Wrestle Junkies keep you up to date with the latest WWE Raw results as they take place.

WWE Raw results in 90 seconds:

  • Rey Mysterio gets into another argument with Dominik, who declines a WrestleMania rematch in favor of watching Finn Balor battle his dad
  • Finn Balor def. Rey Mysterio by pinfall after a shot from a steel chain by Dominik
  • Cathy Kelley is talking to Alpha Academy backstage when the scene shifts to Lita, who has been attacked by someone
  • Video is played of Brock Lesnar’s attack on Cody Rhodes last week on Raw
  • Becky Lynch says she has her suspicions about who may have attacked Lita and will slap the head off them when she finds out for sure; she’s also drafting Trish Stratus to help defend the tag team titles tonight
  • Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez def. Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus by pinfall to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, and Stratus attacks Lynch after the match
  • Paul Heyman doesn’t want to talk about Lesnar, but would like to discuss Kevin Owens and how he’s in trouble against Solo Sikoa tonight with no allies or friends
  • Stratus refuses a question backstage from Byron Saxton about her actions
  • Bayley tells her Damage CTRL teammates that she told Adam Pearce they need to stick together in the WWE Draft, but Dakota Kai and IYO SKY want the opportunity for a title shot against Bianca Belair she’s trying to get for herself
  • Bobby Lashley vs. Bronson Reed ends in a double countout
  • Cody Rhodes addresses the Brock Lesnar situation by challenging him to a match at Backlash
  • The Usos def. Alpha Academy by pinfall
  • IYO SKY def. Michin and Piper Niven to earn a shot at Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship
  • Kevin Owens tells Saxton that even if it’s not wise to do it, he always leads with his emotions, and his heart says to beat the crap out of Solo Sikoa
  • Solo Sikoa def. Kevin Owens by the pinfall, though Sami Zayn and Matt Riddle arrive to help fight off Sikoa and The Usos after the bell

WWE Raw results: Cody Rhodes is ready for WrestleMania

WWE Raw results for March 27, 2023 from Phoenix, where Cody Rhodes took on Solo Sikoa in the main event.

Can you feel that? It’s WrestleMania 39, coming up quickly now. The final WWE Raw prior to the Show of Shows is tonight in Phoenix, and while it’s probably not wise to expect anything Earth-shaking, there are still some big things happening.

We mean that literally, too. Brock Lesnar and Omos will collide in Los Angeles, providing fans with the rare site of Lesnar being the smaller man in a fight. The WWE Universe will find out how much smaller on Raw, as the two titans will have a pre-WrestleMania weigh-in. And yes, that’s not usually a thing in pro wrestling, but you can’t deny it’s somewhat fascinating in this context.

Want big matches instead? This show will have one of those for sure. Cody Rhodes is less than a week away from his chance to “finish the story,” but he’s got a big test in the form of Solo Sikoa. Will Cody’s attempt to get inside Solo’s head the past few weeks pay off, or will the street champ be able to soften up the American Nightmare to make things easier for the Tribal Chief?

The Miz has certainly been letting us know whenever possible what a big deal it is to be the host of WrestleMania 39, and he’s going to head into Hollywood with one final episode of Miz TV. His guests will be none other than a trio of legendary women’s division champs, and you can probably guess who we mean: Becky Lynch, Lita and Trish Stratus.

WWE Raw results in 90 seconds:

  • Miz TV welcomes three legends, yet Damage CTRL isn’t going to let them go without a confrontation
  • Becky Lynch def. IYO SKY by pinfall
  • A video package plays up the accomplishments of Asuka and looks ahead to her WrestleMania challenge of Bianca Belair
  • We see Logan Paul boasting last Monday before Seth Rollins is interviewed backstage, and he’s not crazy about Mustafa Ali trying to put his positive spin on things, which leads to them facing each other tonight
  • Seth Rollins def. Mustafa Ali by pinfall, then cuts a promo on Paul
  • Baron Corbin complains to Adam Pearce, who has to break away to deal with Chelsea Green, who finally gets into the WrestleMania Showcase match with a partner who is equally disgruntled with AP: Sonya Deville
  • Omos and Brock Lesnar hit the scales … well, one of them does, anyway
  • A video package is shown for Charlotte Flair before Rhea Ripley says Charlotte’s unmatched legacy will not define her destiny — and she needs Charlotte’s championship for that
  • Finn Balor warns Edge there’s nothing more dangerous than a caged demon
  • Street Profits, Braun Strowman and Ricochet def. Alpha Academy and Viking Raiders by pinfall
  • Cody Rhodes is asked if he put himself in a vulnerable position by taking this match against Solo Sikoa, and he insists that he will make Solo realize he’s not ready before going on to beat Roman Reigns this weekend
  • A video package is shown to promote Bianca Belair
  • Austin Theory cuts a promo in an empty arena to prove he doesn’t do it for the fans, he does it for himself, and he’s going to make the fans stop believing in John Cena this Saturday at WrestleMania
  • Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green def. Michin and Candice LeRae by pinfall in a WrestleMania Showcase qualifying match
  • Heyman says flat out that Solo isn’t there to compete, but to ensure Cody isn’t at 100% come Sunday
  • Rey Mysterio def. Damian Priest by DQ thanks to interference by Dominik Mysterio, and Legado Del Fantasma has to save Rey fafter a short post-match beating
  • The contestants for the Andre the Giant Battle Royal are posted on the wall, and Rick Boogs is really excited to be in it while Elias is less thrilled after seeing some of the others who are too
  • Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens talk about how their match against The Usos is extra special because L.A. is where they got their first big break
  • Gunther def. Dolph Ziggler by pinfall
  • Cody Rhodes def. Solo Sikoa by pinfall
