Michigan at Wisconsin odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Michigan Wolverines at Wisconsin Badgers odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets in an Big Ten battle.

The No. 16 Wisconsin Badgers (20-5, 11-4 Big Ten) host the Michigan Wolverines (14-10, 8-6) Sunday. Tip-off at Kohl Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (on CBS). Below, we look at the Michigan vs. Wisconsin odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Michigan is 3-1 straight up (SU) and 2-2 against the spread (ATS) over its past four games, including an 84-79 win at Iowa Thursday as a 5-point underdog. The Wolverines are ninth in net rating in the Big Ten with the second-toughest schedule, according to USA TODAY’s Jeff Sagarin.

Wisconsin also has won three of its past four games (2-2 ATS) with the latest being a 74-69 upset of Indiana Tuesday as a 3-point road underdog. The Badgers are eighth in net rating in the Big Ten with the sixth-toughest schedule.

The Wolverines won and covered both meetings with the Badgers last season and each contest went Under the total.

Michigan at Wisconsin odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 73, Wisconsin 67

Money line

SPRINKLE on MICHIGAN (+125) with the plan of betting Wolverines plus the points harder.

These teams are nearly equal in experience, but Michigan has a lot more talent. The Wolverines have eight five- or four-star recruits, while the Badgers have just two four-star recruits.

Furthermore, Michigan was 2-0 SU and ATS versus Wisconsin last season because the Wolverines dominated the glass and were a far better 3-point shooting team.

Michigan still has those edges over Wisconsin. The Wolverines have a plus-5.6 rebound-per-game margin and the Badgers have a plus-0.4 rebound-per-game margin.

According to KenPom.com, Michigan has a positive effective field-goal percentage (eFG%) differential whereas Wisconsin has a negative eFG% differential.

Again, I’d only SPRINKLE on MICHIGAN (+125) because the Wolverines’ spread is the much sharper play.

Against the spread

BET MICHIGAN +2.5 (-105) heavier than or instead of its money line because this is just a better spot for the Wolverines.

The underdog has covered 17 of the last 23 Michigan-Wisconsin meetings. The Badgers are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and 4-6 ATS at home versus teams with a winning record.

For the record, MICHIGAN +2.5 (-105) is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN to the OVER 138.5 (-115) for a small wager if at all, based on a few trendy reasons.

These teams are a combined 27-13 O/U versus teams with a winning record, Michigan is 10-4 O/U as a road underdog since 2019 (head coach Juwan Howard’s first year on the job) and Wisconsin is 27-15 O/U as a home favorite over that span.

Michigan at Wisconsin odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Michigan Wolverines at Wisconsin Badgers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Michigan Wolverines (4-0) visit the Wisconsin Badgers (1-2) for a noon ET kickoff Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium. Below, we look at Michigan vs. Wisconsin odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Michigan, No. 14 in AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports, moved up five spots with a 20-13 win over Rutgers last week and will look to stay undefeated against the Badgers, who dropped from No. 15 to unranked with a 41-13 loss to Notre Dame.

While Michigan may be ranked, it still isn’t the favorite, after dropping 40-plus points on two non-Power 5 programs and defeating two other struggling big-name schools in Rutgers and Washington.

Wisconsin has lost only to programs in the top 10 entering Week 5, which is why, at home, it’s still the favorite. However, after throwing 4 picks against Notre Dame, Badgers starting QB Graham Mertz may have some trust to regain with bettors.

Michigan at Wisconsin odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 31, Wisconsin 21

Money line

BET on MICHIGAN (+105) as it has shown few weaknesses so far this season.

Sophomore RB Blake Corum is ninth in the country in rushing yards, and he’ll look to have a big outing in the Wolverines’ biggest challenge yet.

With Notre Dame taking it to Wisconsin last week, most notably on the defensive side of the field, I’d expect Michigan to have its way after holding Rutgers to just 13 points and Washington to 10.

The Wolverines have yet to give up 15 points in a game. Against a struggling Wisconsin offense, Michigan will run its way to another win.

Against the spread

PASS on the spread and look to the money line.

Each of Wisconsin’s losses to top-10 programs was by more than 5 points. Michigan is getting 1.5 points, but the value just isn’t there over picking the Wolverines to win outright.

Over/Under

“LEAN” on the OVER 43.5 (-110) as a solid play on the total. Michigan is averaging 40.3 points per game.

While it’s yet to play a top program like Wisconsin, that type of production is not something that just disappears. Corum has proven he’s that good. Wisconsin will need to keep up.

Michigan is giving up over 200 yards to quarterbacks that have thrown more than 30 times and Mertz is topping 30 pass attempts per game. It’s also yet to pick off a quarterback trusted to throw that much. Mertz could get back to the player Wiscinson knows he can be.

Giving Michigan’s strength in running and its weakness against pass-heavy offenses, the Over should be the better play but just for half a unit.

Michigan at Wisconsin: Three things to know

  1. Due to COVID-19 issues, Michigan has been on a pause and hasn’t played since Jan. 22. The Wolverines opened the season 11-0 (6-0 Big Ten) before losing at then-No. 19 Minnesota 75-57 as 5.5-point favorites Jan. 16. They followed with back-to-back, double-digit victories over Maryland and Purdue and were then hit by the pause. Freshman C Hunter Dickinson leads Michigan in scoring (15.1 points per game), rebounds (7.2 RPG) and blocks (1.4 BPG).
  2. Wisconsin has alternated wins and losses over its past seven games. The Badgers’ last outing was a 61-48 victory at Nebraska as 11-point favorites. They’re 11-2 at home, including 5-2 in Big Ten action. Senior G D’Mitrik Trice’s leads Wisconsin in scoring (13.5 PPG) and assists (3.8 APG), while senior F Micah Potter averages 11.8 PPG and a team-high 6.1 RPG.
  3. Michigan had no problem beating Wisconsin 77-54 as a 2.5-point home favorite Jan. 12 in the first regular-season meeting between the rivals. The Wolverines used a 43-6 run – hitting the final 14 points of the first half and opening the second with a 29-6 spurt – to sink the Badgers. Senior G Mike Smith’s 16 points led four Wolverines in double figures, while Trice scored a game-high 20 for the Badgers.

Michigan at Wisconsin: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wisconsin 66, Michigan 63

Money line (ML)

WISCONSIN (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Badgers feature the Big Ten’s stingiest defense, allowing just 62.4 PPG.

Facing that challenge on the road, having not played in 23 days and being unable to practice as a full unit for two weeks are just too many negatives for the Wolverines.

Don’t get me wrong. Michigan is by far the better team, but the circumstances point to WISCONSIN in this one.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. If the money line juice climbs above -130, forget that wager and make Wisconsin -1.5 (+100) the STRONGEST PLAY.

ATS: Michigan 11-3 | Wisconsin 10-10-1

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the UNDER 133.5 (-110). These are the two best defenses in the Big Ten. Wisconsin is first, allowing 62.4 PPG; Michigan is second at 65.4 PPG.

When it comes to conference games only, Michigan is first (63.1 PPG), just ahead of Wisconsin (64.5 PPG).

O/U records: Michigan 7-7-1 | Wisconsin 10-10-1
