A second straight shutout leads No. 1 Michigan State to the weekend sweep over Lindenwood

Michigan State hockey played their first weekend series as the No. 1 team in the nation, hosting the Lindenwood Lions inside of Munn Ice Arena.

After a 4-0 shutout victory on Friday night, the Spartans followed it up with their second straight shutout victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Lions, 2-0.

In game two, it was backup goaltender Luca Di Pasquo who had a 14-save shutout in the win. His efforts were aided by Gavin O’Connell and Michael DeAngelo, who both scored goals in the contest.

MSU will be on the road in Madison next weekend to continue Big Ten play when they face off against the Wisconsin Badgers.

As the new No. 1 team in the nation, Michigan State hockey welcomed in Lindenwood for a weekend series in East Lansing.

In game one of the non-conference clash between the Spartans and Lindenwood, Michigan State dominated, winning 4-0. The Spartans outshot Lindenwood 56-29 in the game.

A 29 save shutout by Trey Augustine led the way for the Spartans while Matt Basgall, Daniel Russell, Tommi Männistö and Isaac Howard scored goals in the game.

The two teams will close their weekend series on Sunday at Munn Ice Arena at 4 p.m.
