Michigan State took care of business at home against Brown, winning 68-50
Following the first conference victory of the season against Penn State, Michigan State returned home to face off against Brown of the Ivy League. While the Spartans got off to a slow start, they quicky shook it off to dominate the game, winning 68-50.
A common theme in 2022, Michigan State was led once again by Joey Hauser, AJ Hoggard and Tyson Walker, all three of whom finished in double figures.
Two milestones were also achieved on Saturday with Joey Hauser scoring his 1,000th career point, while Davis Smith, the son of Spartan legend Steve Smith, scored his first career points in a Spartan uniform.
Starting the game, and getting going was tough for the Spartans as the Bears really bogged down the pace to start the game. Just ten minutes into the game, Michigan State led a low scoring game 11-10. The next ten minutes told a different story.
MSU went on a 21-8 run over the course of the next ten minutes to go into the half with a 14-point lead, 32-18.
Both teams struggled to shoot the basketball in the first half, with MSU going 38.7% from the field and 30.8% from three, while Brown shot 23.3% from the field and 27.3% from 3.
The second half had no slow starts for MSU, the Spartans came out as hot as they left the first half, putting the game away quickly.
The Spartans built a lead greater than 20, and were able to bring in walk-ons Steven Izzo, Davis Smith and Nick Sanders, much to the crowd’s liking.
MSU ultimately took down the Bears 68-50.
Hauser led the way with 22 points, while Hoggard added 17 points and Walker had 10 points.
Michigan State will be back in action on Wednesday, December 21st against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at the Breslin Center at 6:30 pm EST.
