MSU Basketball included in CBS Sports’ 2024-25 preseason rankings

See where Gary Parrish of CBS Sports has the Spartans in his updated preseason rankings

Gary Parrish of CBS Sports has the Spartans as one of his top 26 teams in the country heading into next season.

Parrish released an updated batch of preseason rankings on Saturday, which included the Spartans. Michigan State came in as his final ranked team at No. 26.

Here’s a bit of what Parrish had to say about Michigan State:

his ranking is based on Tom Izzo’s Spartans returning five of the top eight scorers – specifically Jaden Akins, Tre Holloman, Xavier Booker, Jeremy Fears and Carson Cooper – from a team that secured a No. 9 seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

MSU Hoops left off On3’s updated ‘Way-Too-Early’ rankings for next season

Michigan State basketball is not included in On3’s updated “way-too-early” rankings for next year

James Fletcher III of On3 doesn’t believe Michigan State is a top 25 team entering the thick of the offseason.

The transfer portal has closed and most of the teams across college basketball have finalized their rosters for the 2024-25 season. There will be some additions still for a few, but for the most part the rosters are set.

So how does Michigan State stack up with the rest of the country? Well, Fletcher doesn’t have them in his new “Way-Too-Early” rankings for next season.

Only a few Big Ten teams made his list: UCLA at No. 16, Purdue at No. 18, Indiana at No. 21 and USC at No. 23.

Stewart Mandel of The Athletic is high on Michigan State football entering the 2022 season.

Mandel released an updated batch of his early top 25 rankings on Friday, and it saw the Spartans landing in the top 10. He has Michigan State at No. 8 — one spot ahead of rival Michigan at No. 9.

Mandel previously had Michigan State at No. 10 in his first batch of rankings, but gave the Spartans a boost up after some recent transfer additions. Here’s a bit of what he had to say about Michigan State:

“A year after plucking star running back Kenneth Walker from Wake Forest, Mel Tucker landed Colorado’s Jarek Broussard, the Pac-12’s 2020 Offensive Player of the Year who ran for 301 yards in a game against Arizona.”
