Watch BTN analyst breakdown MSU, preview upcoming 2024 season

“If this team can remain healthy in the trenches they will make noise this fall.”

“If this team can remain healthy in the trenches they will make noise this fall.

That’s what Yogi Roth of the Big Ten Network had to say about Michigan State after visiting with the Spartans earlier this week. Roth was part of the Big Ten Network crew that stopped in East Lansing, Mich. earlier this week as part of the network’s fall camp preview series.

Cover 3 Podcast crew picks MSU over-under win total for 2024 season

A majority of the Cover 3 Podcast likes the Spartans to win at least five games this year

A majority of the Cover 3 Podcast likes the Spartans to win at least five games this year.

The Cover 3 Podcast is picking win total over-unders as we approach the upcoming season, and that included the Spartans earlier this week. Michigan State’s win total is currently at 4.5 games, and two of the three crew members took the over. Bud Elliott and Tom Fornelli took the over, while Chip Patterson took the under.

Michigan State officially opens the season on August 30 against Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Spartans are last in Big Ten in Kelley Ford preseason power ratings

One set of preseason power ratings has Michigan State as the worst team in the Big Ten

One set of preseason power ratings has Michigan State as the worst team in the Big Ten.

The preseason power ratings for all 134 teams has been released by Kelley Ford, and Michigan State is dead last in the Big Ten. The Spartans came in at No. 70 nationally, which is last in the Big Ten.

The Spartans come into the 2024 season with many expecting them to finish near the bottom of the league. But I personally haven’t came across any rankings that have them in last place in the league.

Spartans receive no love in USA TODAY preseason 1-134 rankings

Michigan State football did not get a friendly ranking in the USA TODAY preseason 1-134 rankings

Michigan State football did not get a friendly ranking in the USA TODAY preseason 1-134 rankings.

The Spartans are in the bottom half of USA TODAY’s new all 134 teams rankings for the 2024 season. Paul Myerberg released his updated preseason rankings this week, and had Michigan State at No. 79 nationally.

Interestingly, the Spartans are two spots behind their season-opening opponent Florida Atlantic. The Owls came in at No. 77 — which is a bit comical since Michigan State is currently listed as a near two-touchdown favorite over FAU in the season-opener.

In relation to the Big Ten, Michigan State came in at No. 13 out of the 18 teams in the league. The Spartans were ahead of Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, UCLA and Northwestern.

BTN analyst believes MSU can ‘make some noise’ if Aidan Chiles lives up to potential

Aidan Chiles is the key to the Spartans experiencing success in 2024

If Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles can live up to his potential right away, then Yogi Roth of the Big Ten Network likes the Spartans in 2024.

Roth was one of the crew members from the Big Ten Network who stopped at Michigan State earlier this week during their fall camp tour. During their visit, Roth was impressed by Chiles and believes he is the key for Michigan State to surprise some in 2024.

MSU left off preseason bowl projections from Action Network

Brett McMurphy doesn’t have the Spartans bowling in 2024. At least to start the season

Brett McMurphy doesn’t have the Spartans bowling in 2024. At least to start the season.

McMurphy of the Action Network released his preseason bowl projections on Tuesday, which didn’t include Michigan State. McMurphy had comparable teams from the Big Ten such as Indiana, Maryland and Rutgers in bowl games ahead of Michigan State.

MSU Football ranked near bottom of Big Ten in The Athletic’s preseason rankings

The Preseason Athletic 134 dropped on Monday, and it has some teams ahead of the Spartans that are simply head-scratching

The Preseason Athletic 134 dropped on Monday, and it has some teams ahead of the Spartans that are simply head-scratching.

Would you consider Toledo, Miami (OH), UNLV or Texas State to be better than Michigan State in 2024? Well, Chris Vannini of The Athletic thinks so. At least for now.

Vannini released his The Preseason Athletic 134 on Monday, and the Spartans came in at No. 70 nationally. That is No. 14 out of 18 teams in the Big Ten — which isn’t surprising compared to other preseason rankings. But the number of smaller programs such as Toledo or UNLV being ahead of the Spartans was surprising (at least to me).

Check out the complete preseason rankings from Vannini by clicking on the post below:

‘Stripe The Stadium’ details released for MSU-FAU season-opener

Do you know which color you should be wearing for the Spartans’ season-opener against FAU?

Michigan State football will once again be “striping the stadium” for the season-opener against Florida Atlantic. So do you know which color you should be wearing?

Fans in even sections of Spartan Stadium should wear green, while fans in odd sections and the student section should wear white. This color coordinating scheme will result in a green and white striped Spartan Stadium as we’ve seen in previous seasons.

Kickoff between the Spartans and Owls is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on August 30. For those fans not able to attend the game, it will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
