MSU released their 2025 schedule, a massive year as Jake Boss enters on the hot seat

Michigan State baseball is getting set to start their 2025 season, the 17th season in the tenure of Jake Boss Jr. in East Lansing. The Spartans will be looking to make it back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012.

MSU has only had one winning season since 2017, putting Boss firmly on the hot seat heading into 2025, needing a big year to keep his reign continuing in East Lansing.

2025 Crosstown Showdown details announced

Details for the annual 2025 Crosstown Showdown have been released

Michigan State baseball plays an annual game every year against the Lansing Lugnuts, a minor league baseball affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. The two nearby baseball entities play their yearly game in front of a ton of fans, with a great fan experience.

For 2025, the Crosstown Showdown details have been announced. The game will be on April 1 at 6:05 pm at Jackson Field in Lansing.

Michigan State baseball will open their season on Feb. 14.

Michigan State baseball releases Big Ten schedule

Check out what MSU’s 2025 Big Ten schedule looks like

Michigan State baseball is coming into a pivotal year for the program in 2025. Jake Boss Jr. is coming into his 16th year with the program and will be looking to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012.

The Spartans had a successful season in 2023, going 33-22 and qualifying for the Big Ten Tournament, but in 2024, the Spartans floundered back down to 24-27 and missing the Big Ten Tournament.

In 2025, Boss is feeling some heat under his seat and is going to need to see his Spartans have a bounce back performance. On Wednesday, the team’s Big Ten schedule was released:

A former Spartans pitcher has been promoted to Triple-A

A former Spartans pitcher has been promoted to Triple-A.

Former Michigan State pitcher Kyle Bischoff gets promoted to Minnesota Twins’ Triple-A affiliate St. Paul Saints. The promotion to the Saints occurred earlier this week for Bischoff.

Bischoff played for the Spartans during the 2022 season after transferring from Toledo where he played his first three seasons of ball. He held a 2-1 record and 3.51 earned runs average (ERA) in his lone season at Michigan State.

Bischoff is originally from Macomb, Mich. and has been within the Twins organization the past two seasons. He has appeared in 42 games this year across Single-A+ and Double-AA ball, and holds a 5-2 record and 3.19 ERA.

A former Spartan has been promoted by the Philadelphia Phillies

Trent Farquhar was a stand out with Michigan State baseball, before latching on with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Dearborn native, who started his career at Bowling Green, will be climbing up the ranks of professional baseball, as the Phillies have promoted the former Spartan to A+ ball with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.

Michigan State baseball has earned the latest commitment to their baseball program. An in-state prospect from East Jordan, Michigan, Korbyn Russell has made the decision to continue his athletic career with Michigan State. Russell is a 6-foot-2, 195 pound left handed pitcher and first baseman playing for East Jordan High School.

MSU baseball shortstop Randy Seymour has been having an impressive summer on the diamond

Michigan State baseball shortstop Randy Seymour has been having an impressive summer on the diamond.

Seymour was named to the New England College Baseball League’s All-Star Game. He will represent the East team in Sunday’s All-Star Game from Bristol, Conn.

Seymour has been playing for the Newport Gulls this summer, where he’s been having a strong season. In 22 games, Seymour has driven in 16 runs and has had multiple three-hit games recently.

Seymour will be a junior for the Spartans next season.

Michigan State baseball’s ace pitcher withdraws from NCAA transfer portal

MSU got a huge win over NCAA powerhouse Vanderbilt in the transfer portal:

Michigan State baseball took what seemingly was thought to be a big blow when left-handed ace pitcher Joe Dzierwa announced that he was transferring from the program. He had since committed to SEC baseball powerhouse Vanderbilt.

That will no longer be the case, though, as it has been announced that Dzierwa is withdrawing from the portal, and returning to East Lansing for another season.

Dzierwa earned All-B1G honors in his two seasons with MSU, where he posted an 11-6 record, with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.282 WHIP. He has been a workhorse for the Spartans, throwing 136 innings in two seasons.

A 6-foot-7 starting pitcher from Haskins, Ohio, he is on the MLB’s radar as a draft candidate in 2025.

Former Spartan gets promoted within Miami Marlins organization

Brock Vradenburg is making his way up in the Miami Marlins organization:

Brock Vradenburg was a standout for Michigan State for three seasons before getting drafted in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins.

Now, within the Marlins organization, the former Spartan slugger is someone that has been swinging the stick well in the minor leagues, so well he has been promoted to Beloit, Wisconsin’s High-A team of the Marlins.
