See which two Spartans cracked Phil Steele’s preseason All-American teams

Two Spartans are considered All-Americans heading into the 2022 season, according to Phil Steele.

The longtime college football reporter and analyst recently released his preseason All-American teams and a pair of Spartans made the list. Those two Spartans are wide receiver Jayden Reed and safety Xavier Henderson.

Reed was listed as an All-American first-teamer for Special Teams, and Henderson was a fourth-teamer on the defense.

Michigan State football listed in Athlon Top 25 rankings for 2022

Athlon Sports released their top 25 for the 2022 season on Wednesday, which had the Spartans listed inside the top 15

It’s the time of the year when everyone will start coming out with their preseason rankings for the 2022 college football season, and the Spartans should be a common occurrence. That’s the case here for Athlon Sports.

Athlon Sports released their top 25 for the 2022 season on Wednesday, which had the Spartans listed inside the top 15. Michigan State came in at No. 14 in Athlon’s rankings.

Here’s a bit of what was said about the Spartans:

Behind a huge season from running back Kenneth Walker III, Michigan State improved from 2-5 in ’20 to 11-2 in coach Mel Tucker’s second year in East Lansing. Walker is off to the NFL, but quarterback Payton Thorne returns to headline the offense. Thorne threw for 3,233 yards and 27 touchdowns last season, and while Jalen Nailor also is gone, his favorite target (Jayden Reed) is back.

Michigan State was the third highest-ranked team in the Big Ten. The Spartans were behind only Ohio State (No. 2) and Michigan (No. 6). Other Big Ten teams also ranked include Wisconsin (No. 19) and Penn State (No. 25).
