Texas A&M pitcher Issac Morton confirms he will be returning to Aggieland

Texas A&M sophomore pitcher Issac Morton confirms he withdrew his name from the portal and will return for the 2025 season.

New Texas A&M pitching coach Jason Kelly will have another talented arm returning to College Station. Issac Morton entered the transfer portal to make sure he had options during the coaching change like any player might have done. The 6’3″ sophomore recently confirmed that he will indeed withdraw from the portal and return to A&M.

The decision appears to have come after coach Kelly met with Morton while in Cape Cod watching him pitch. Being able to keep a large part of this pitching staff together along with bringing in a few solid transfers has shown the hiring of Jason Kelly to be a good one so far.

New Texas A&M pitching coach Jason Kelly talks about his coaching style with TexAgs

New Texas A&M pitching coach John Kelly sits down with TexAgs to talk about his journey to Bryan-College Station

Texas A&M saw a major improvement in pitching from the 2023 season to the 2024 campaign.

The change came after the former Seattle Mariner pitching coordinator Max Weiner joined Jim Schlossnagle’s 2024 staff, replacing Nate Yeskie. It was a match made in heaven. The pitching staff spoke very highly of him throughout the season. His mound visits were light-hearted, and he usually had the pitchers locked back in for the remainder of the inning.

Then, less than 24 hours later, the rug was pulled from under them. Weiner followed Schlossnagle to Austin. However, almost all the pitching staff chose not enter the transfer portal, which was surprising. However, A&M still needed to make the right hire and Michael Earley did just that.

Earley brought in former Washington Huskie head coach and LSU pitching coach Jason Kelly. Kelly has a wealth of experience and is widely recognized as one of the best pitching coaches in the nation, with a stable of talent to work with. Below, you can watch his recent interview with TexAgs, in which he talks about his pitching style and his relationship with coach Earley.

With the expectation of catcher Jackson Appel entering the draft and Max Kaufer transferring to South Carolina, the position is up for grabs. Texas A&M brought in a handful of catchers and will have a lot of good competition, with one of them hopefully taking the reins by the beginning of the season.

On Wednesday night, former St. Mary catcher Conner “Bear” Harrison announced his commitment to the Aggies via social media. After a stellar high school career, Harrison earned a spot on the WCC All-Freshman team and completed the season with a .990 fielding percentage.

Under the tutelage of Michael Earley and Caleb Longley, I expect Harrison to make a leap in his home run numbers and strikeouts. Both coaches are considered two of the better hitting coaches in the nation, and Harrison has a lot of tools for them to work with.

What LHP Myles Patton can bring to the Texas A&M pitching staff

Texas A&M commit Myles Patton has the tools to becoming a major player in the Texas A&M pitching rotation

While Texas A&M has brought back a nice chunk of the record-setting offense after hiring Michael Earley, they had some big shoes to fill on the mound. There is a high possibility that both Ryan Prager and Chris Cortez will be drafted high enough not to come back to A&M, and phenomenal closer Evan Aschenbeck may not have his waiver for an additional season granted.

That means the Aggies will have to replace their most dynamic weekend lineup from the 2024 season. The trio combined for a 2.50 ERA, a 25-5 record, 239.6 innings, and 313 strikeouts. Texas A&M will still have a deep bullpen to work with, but Myles Patton will be a great arm that can steal a few starts and work some good innings in the middle of the game.

Even though Patton was mainly a starter during his time at Long Beach State, he has the tools and is highly competitive. This was echoed by his former coach, Bryan Peters, after a game last season.

“He’s completely earned it in every way possible from his work ethic, his character, his makeup, his leadership and most importantly he’s got Friday night stuff, demeanor and mentality,” said Peters. “He’s a very poised and competitive killer on the mound. What’s going on inside isn’t reflected on the outside. He’s in complete control with so much poise.”

Below, you can view Patton in action and what he can bring to Aggieland.

Texas A&M lands commitment from coveted LHP Myles Patton from Long Beach State

Texas A&M adds another pitcher through the transfer portal over the weekend

Texas A&M stays hot in the transfer portal, bringing in another pitcher for new pitching coach John Kelly to work with. This time it’s Myles Patton a 6-foot-3, 200-pound left-hander out of Long Beach State. He closed his sophomore season as an honorable mention to the 2024 Big West all-conference team.

Patton’s season was cut short due to a back injury but that did not keep him from being one of the top pitching transfers in the portal. His is also slated to be ready for the 2025 season. You can check out Patton’s confirmation via “X” here.

    • Opposing Batting Average – .267

Ahead of the 2025 season, Patton has a chance to compete for a spot in the starting rotation after a impressive season at Long Beach State.

Texas A&M pitcher Kaiden Wilson withdraws from the portal and will return next season

Texas A&M sophomore pitcher Kaiden Wilson confirms he withdrew his name from the portal and will return for the 2025 season.

There is a saying that goes, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” So far, that has remained true for the Texas A&M baseball roster. A majority of the players who saw time during the College World Series and who entered the transfer portal have confirmed they are returning for the 2025 baseball season.

One key player is sophomore pitcher Kaiden Wilson. While his numbers are not that impressive, he did show a lot of promising talent. The left-hander has all the qualities to become one of the Aggies’ top relief pitchers, with a strong arm and fast ball in the mid-90s. Below, you can check out Wilson’s confirmation via “X.”

    SEASON STATS
