Shara Magomedov vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk prediction, pick, start time, odds for UFC on ABC 7

Make no mistake: This is a showcase spot for Shara Magomedov courtesy of the UFC matchmakers.

[autotag]Shara Magomedov[/autotag] and [autotag]Michal Oleksiejczuk[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ABC 7 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 3-2
UFC main cards, 2024: 64-56-3

Shara Magomedov vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk UFC on ABC 7 preview

Undefeated Magomedov (13-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has a chance to make a statement in a co-headlining spot after winning his first two UFC appearances. “Bullet” defeated Bruno Silva by unanimous decision last October before coming back to finish Antonio Trócoli in June. … leksiejczuk (19-8 MMA, 7-6 UFC) enters the fight on back-to-back losses and defeats in three of his past four.

Shara Magomedov vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk UFC on ABC 7 expert pick, prediction

Despite being more known for his dubious actions outside the cage than inside of it, Magomedov is being rewarded with a co-main event slot in just his third UFC showing. Stepping up for the matchmakers on the other side of what is an obvious showcase spot is Oleksiejczuk.

Oleksiejczuk is a staple action fighter for the promotion, but the Pole has been on a clear skid, losing 3 of his last 4 fights.

Although Oleksiejczuk’s southpaw pressure could produce some real problems for the one-and-done kicking stylings of Magomedov, I can’t help but suspect that “Shara Bullet” is being set up to succeed in this spot.

So, between seeing people like Paddy Pimblett pull through last week to all the suspect behavior during the UFC’s prior show in the Middle East, I’ll be following suit this Saturday and sticking with the locally connected hyped product to come up large.

The pick is Magomedov by first-round knockout.

Shara Magomedov vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk UFC on ABC 7 odds

The oddsmakers and the public continue to grow tumescent over the fighter who looks like he’s a villain straight out of a James Bond film, listing Magomedov -265 and Oleksiejczuk +210 via FanDuel.

Michal Oleksiejczuk before UFC on ABC 7: Shara Magomedov a great kickboxer, but my boxing better

Michal Oleksiejczuk is happy to test his standup against Shara Magomedov’s at UFC on ABC 7.

ABU DHABI – [autotag]Michal Oleksiejczuk[/autotag] is happy to test his standup against [autotag]Shara Magomedov[/autotag]’s.

Oleksiejczuk (19-8 MMA, 17-6 UFC) takes on Magomedov (13-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC on ABC 7 (ABC, ESPN2, ESPN+) co-main event at Etihad Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Both fighters are statistically proven knockout artists, and despite being on a two-fight losing skid, Oleksiejczuk doesn’t plan on backing down from the striking exchanges with Magomedov.

“Shara is a great kickboxer, but I think that my boxing is better than Shara,” Oleksiejczuk told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at UFC on ABC 7 media day.

Oleksiejczuk will also get an opportunity to bounce highly touted Magomedov out of the ranks of the unbeaten.

“This is a very good fight for me because Shara is a very popular fighter, and this fight will be very exciting for me, for fans, and I am very happy,” Oleksiejczuk said. “I want to fight standing. Standing is my best side, and I like to make pressure, I like hard punches, and I want to knock out my opponent.”

Oleksiejczuk’s past few fights have been fan friendly, coming against the likes of Kevin Holland and Michel Pereira. He is happy to draw another popular name in the division.

“I want to fight with the best fighters in the middleweight division in the UFC,” Oleksiejczuk said. “Shara is an exciting fighter, and he’s very popular and that’s all. I like this fight.”

Michal Oleksiejczuk says arm didn’t break at UFC 302, disagrees with stoppage

Michal Oleksiejczuk wishes Herb Dean gave him more time to fight the submission at UFC 302.

[autotag]Michal Oleksiejczuk[/autotag] isn’t sure he could’ve escaped the armbar at UFC 302 but feels like he should’ve been given more agency over the situation.

On Saturday’s main card at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., Oleksiejczuk (19-8 MMA, 7-6 UFC) lost to [autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] (26-11 MMA, 13-8 UFC) by technical submission in Round 1 after referee Herb Dean deemed his arm dangerously contorted.

Though his arm was bent awkwardly, Oleksiejczuk told MMA Junkie on Tuesday that it did not break. While he still awaits the results of an MRI to see exactly what the issue is, Oleksiejczuk said he felt the stoppage was incorrect.

“I feel good,” Oleksiejczuk said. “My mental is OK. My arm is not broken. I think that I want a fight in a few months. I will be ready. … I didn’t tap. My arm is not broken. I felt great in this fight. This stoppage is not good. It’s not correct, in my opinion. … In my opinion, the stoppage is not correct. I think that if the fight was longer, my chance in this fight is (better).”

According to the ABC Unified Rules a technical submission is defined as “when a legal submission act results in unconsciousness or broken/dislocated bone(s)/joint(s).”

The decision to stop a fight on the basis of a contorted limb is somewhat subjective to the referee’s discretion – and in the case, Oleksiejczuk thinks Dean misjudged.

“This is my career,” Oleksiejczuk said. “This is my choice. I am really a warrior. I want to fight every time. In my opinion, this is my choice: tap or not. … I don’t know but my opinion is very simple. I am a warrior and this is my work. I want to show the best fights. I want to show very exciting fights. That’s all.”

Oleksiejczuk did not indicate he plans to appeal the decision to the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB), though wants to wait until his medical results come back to make that decision.

[lawrence-related id=2745576,2745562]

UFC CEO Dana White agreed with Dean’s stoppage and said he thinks the referee should intervene to prevent debilitating injury.

In addition to the thoughts expressed publicly, Oleksiejczuk’s coach Ivan Kirillov told MMA Junkie that White approached them at the event to praise his fighter’s toughness.

“Dana White came to me and said that he didn’t want to hurt him,” Kirillov said. “It’s not about him. It’s about his health. He said Michal is very tough but they don’t want him to hurt himself because of that, because of that situation.”

Oleksiejczuk has lost back-to-back fights and three of his most recent four, making the loss sting a little more. With respect from his promoter and positive messages from fans around the world, Oleksiejczuk expects his next fight to be back under the same banner, especially considering he recently signed a new multifight deal.”

“We’ll see if my arm is OK,” Oleksiejczuk said. “I want to go forward and fight with the best fighters in this division. I want to make progress. … I just want to go forward and fight again as soon as possible once I’m recovered. … I just want to say that you for all fans because I got a lot of messages from all over the world. There were good words for me.”

UFC 302 results: Kevin Holland dropped, but snaps Michal Oleksiejczuk’s arm in first round submission

Kevin Holland was rocked early, but slapped on a deep armbar to force a technical submission in the UFC 302 feature bout.

[autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] returned to the middleweight division for the first time since 2021, and nearly took home the arm of his opponent [autotag]Michal Oleksiejczuk[/autotag].

Holland (26-11 MMA, 13-8 UFC) overcame an early scare, but ultimately finished Oleksiejczuk (19-8 MMA, 7-6 UFC) at 1:34 in Round 1 of their middleweight bout on the UFC 302 main card at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Strikes began flying at a high clip after the pair touched gloves.

As Holland circled on the outside, Oleksiejczuk landed a hard left hand that sent him to the canvas. Oleksiejczuk immediately rushed in for follow up punches, but Holland was still very aware of the situation.

As Oleksiejczuk attempted to land ground and pound to finish the fight, Holland slapped on an armbar, and it was deep. Holland rolled Oleksiejczuk over, and really began cranking on the armbar. In fact, he appeared to hesitate to want to snap the limb. However, Oleksiejczuk didn’t want to tap, so Holland cranked harder, and sure enough, the arm appeared to crack, prompting referee Herb Dean to step in and stop the fight.

Holland returned to the middleweight division for the first time since 2021 in a fight against Kyle Daukaus that was ruled a no contest due to an accidental headbutt. He improves to 9-4 at middleweight, while 4-4 at welterweight.

UFC 302: Holland vs. Oleksiejczuk picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

Holland (-300) is a little too pricey, costing you 3 times your potential return on the 2-way line. Instead, let’s get a little more specific.

If you simply want to take HOLLAND BY KO/TKO, DQ OR SUBMISSION (-125), getting the finish via any method possible, it isn’t a terrible play. However, he tapped Chiesa at UFC 291, while Oleksiejczuk (+240) has lost via submission in his past 2 setbacks.

If you’re a little more adventurous, HOLLAND BY SUBMISSION (+250) on the 7-way method of victory line is a tempting play for the chance to multiply up by 2½ times.

Over/Under (O/U)

No: Will the fight go the distance? (-250) will cost you 2½ times your potential return, which is way too much risk and not nearly enough value.

UNDER 1.5 ROUNDS (+110) at plus-money is a strong play, though. Oleksiejczuk has managed to get out of Round 1 just once in the past 5 fights, a 2nd-round submission loss to Caio Borralho in April 2023.

In Oleksiejczuk’s past 12 fights, he has failed to get to Round 2 on 8 separate occasions.
