Michael Penix Jr.’s mom goes road-tripping to see him in Alamo Bowl after cancelled flight

Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.’s family had their flight canceled to see him in the Alamo Bowl. So, it was 17-hour road trip time.

When the Washington Huskies take on the Texas Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl Thursday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr.’s people will be there — no matter what.

Southwest Airlines’ recent run of weather-related flight cancellations did not stop Ms. Penix and her family from getting to see him play.

It was road trip time.

It’s been quite a season for Penix, the Indiana transfer who completed 330 of 500 passes for 4,354 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in his first season with the Huskies. Washington has posted a 10-2 record in 2022, its best mark since going 12-2 in 2016.

And now, Penix’s family will see his season finale… because they just wanted it more.
