Seahawks tight end Noah Fant comments on Caitlin Clark cheap shots

Seahawks tight end Noah Fant wants to see those teammates step up and adopt an eye for an eye mentality to protect Clark.

The NFL may be king of the sports world, but right now the biggest story is Caitlin Clark and the rough treatment she’s been getting as a rookie in the WNBA. Picked No. 1 overall out of Iowa, Clark has brought unprecedented attention to the league and women’s basketball in general.

Not everyone is on the Caitlin Clark hype train, though – especially her competitors around the league. This cheap shot from Chennedy Jackson that’s gone viral is an example of what she’s been dealing with.

If you were to hit a quarterback like that after the whistle, you can bet a couple of offensive linemen will be in your face pushing back in a matter of seconds. So far none of Clark’s teammates have retaliated against players who have gone out of their way to body her, though.

Seahawks tight end Noah Fant wants to see those teammates step up and adopt an eye for an eye mentality to protect Clark.

Fant has the right idea. Until the Indiana Fever collectively send a message that cheap shots against Clark will be responded to in kind, this is likely to continue.

The treatment of Clark brings to mind how the NBA reacted to Michael Jordan and his arrival on the scene in 1984. For his first few years in the league the Pistons, Celtics and other eastern conference rivals made a habit of beating the hell out of him every time he drove to the basket – and the league’s stars froze him out socially at the All-Star game, as well. Jordan eventually earned their respect the only way you can – by beating them. While her teammates should protect her no matter what, eventually Clark will have to do the same.

Vince Carter argues Kobe Bryant belongs in the GOAT debate with Jordan and LeBron

Vince Carter argues Kobe Bryant belongs in the GOAT debate with Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

These days the greatest of all time debate is usually between [autotag]Michael Jordan[/autotag] and Lebron James. However, soon-to-be Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer [autotag]Vince Carter[/autotag] feels there’s one name that should always be in that debate.

While acknowledging the greatness Jordan and James brought to the court, Carter was vocal about the late great Kobe Bryant’s name being in the discussion. Carter’s main argument for having Bryant in the debate was his ability to mimic Jordan’s game.

The conversation took place on Bleacher Reports Taylor Rooks X podcast, with Carter breaking down Bryant’s greatness. Watch below how it all unfolds.

Carter had the honor to play against Jordan, James, and Bryant. So, if there’s anyone who can weigh in on this debate, it would be him. It is always interesting to see who throws Bryant in their all-time debate, mostly from a slashing-style swingman.

Cater has embraced the next chapter of his career, becoming one of the best pro players to turn into a media personality. It’s nice hearing legends’ opinions on conversations like this to put things in perspective.

Vince Carter: Kobe Bryant should be in the GOAT conservation

Many people underrate Kobe Bryant relative to the NBA’s other all-time greats, and Vince Carter feels that is wrong.

The decade of the 2000s was an era in which the NBA boasted some outstanding skill and talent at the wing position. One such standout wing was Vince Carter, who played 22 seasons and was one of the best and most exciting players in the league during his prime.

But of course, the best player of that decade was late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. He led the Lakers to five NBA championships between the 1999-00 and 2009-10 seasons, and an argument could be made that he was the greatest closer in basketball history.

Yet Bryant’s name never comes up in the greatest of all time (GOAT) debates. Those debates only really include two men: Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan and current Lakers superstar LeBron James.

Carter, who played against all three legends, said that Bryant should be at the center of those debates along with Jordan and James.

“I’m truly thankful I got a chance to play against Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and of course LeBron,” said Carter. “I’m gonna name those three because we’re always talking about the greatest to play the game, Kobe Bryant should and will always, out of my mouth, be named as one of the greatest to ever play the game. They deserve to be talked about as a trio, not a duo.”

In 20 seasons, Bryant averaged 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists a game (he was at 26.6 points, 5.6 boards and 5.0 assists per game as a starter). Those numbers may not scream “all-time great,” but it was his “Mamba Mentality” and a nearly pathological need to win, as well as his surreal set of skills, that made him much more special than those numbers would suggest.

“I don’t understand why,” Carter said when asked Bryant should be in the discussion and why he isn’t. “The approach of MJ was just like Kobe. He looked at the blueprint of MJ and he said, ‘I’m gonna do that and more.’ And he’s won, it’s proven. Why is he not in that conversation?”

Many would say Bryant wasn’t quite as great a player as Jordan or James, but he does belong in the highest stratosphere of basketball icons, along with Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon on Michael Jordan and the Bulls: ‘He gave us all the respect’

Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon on Bulls star Michael Jordan: “He gave us all the respect, and that’s what’s important to me.”

On numerous occasions, Bulls legend Michael Jordan has gone out of his way to show respect to Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets. After all, outside of Chicago, Houston was the only other NBA champion over an eight-year span from 1991 through 1998.

There has long been mutual respect between the two Hall of Famers, who were each selected in the first three picks of the 1984 NBA draft before becoming the league’s cornerstones in the 1990s.

But as fate would have it, Jordan and the Bulls never met Olajuwon and the Rockets in the NBA Finals. Jordan was retired during Houston’s first title season in 1994, and he returned late in the regular season prior to Houston’s second championship run in 1995.

That dynamic has led some casual observers to speculate Houston might not have won its titles if not for Jordan’s very unusual (and relatively brief) mid-career retirement.

But it’s not something that has come from Jordan, himself.

In a new interview with Michael Shapiro of Chron.com, Olajuwon made it clear there’s been nothing but respect from Jordan.

Among the latest comments by “The Dream” (to Shapiro):

You don’t win a championship by accident. We had the best record in the league. Some people try to say, ‘oh (Michael) Jordan was out those two years, that’s why you won.’ That really doesn’t matter to us, we don’t have to prove anything. … That’s one thing I really respect about Michael Jordan. He never say that. He has tremendous respect for our team.

Even when Chicago was winning championships, and we had a more average team … we were beating Chicago. We were good against Chicago. That is something we can always refer back to. We never played in the playoffs, but we played in the regular season.

He gave us all the respect, and that’s what’s important to me. … We were the champion. It’s not an easy task to win, and we got it done.

Shapiro’s full interview with Olajuwon can be read here. As for Jordan, it’s worth noting his son, Marcus, picked Olajuwon as the second-greatest NBA player of all-time (behind his father).

Michael Jordan narrates star-studded Gatorade commercial

Watch Michael Jordan narrate star-studded Gatorade commercial, featuring big names like Jayson Tatum, A’ja Wilson, and Caitlin Clark.

Throughout time there has been one guarantee, if there’s one brand that can shake up the ad space, it’s Gatorade. Safe to say they’ve done it again, using arguably the greatest player of all time, [autotag]Michael Jordan[/autotag] to narrate the piece.

On Tuesday, Gatorade released their new look commercial, featuring big names alongside Jordan like Luka Dončić, Josh Allen, Jayson Tatum, A’ja Wilson, and Caitlin Clark. The ad did its job, gaining significant traction on social media after Gatorade posted the commercial to their social channels.

It was only fitting that Jordan narrated the piece, and the ad ended with an animated younger version of himself.

The chilling ad is what the doctor ordered. No matter if you saw the commercial at the gym or from the comfort of your living room, it’s hard to not want to run through a wall.

The ad showed how in-depth yet talented the roster Gatorade holds as they remain one of the premier sports drinks in the business. It’s easy to see why when you have Jordan leading the way.

Brandon Miller shares hilarious story of Michael Jordan talking trash then air balling a free throw

Brandon Miller recalls Michael Jordan hilariously air balling a free throw the first time they met

Despite only spending one season with the Alabama Crimson Tide before heading off to the NBA, [autotag]Brandon Miller[/autotag] will be in the conversation of the all-time greats in Tuscaloosa. Miller was the best college basketball player in the country during the 2022-23 season as he guided the Crimson Tide to a 31-6 record with an SEC regular season and tournament title and earned the No. 1 overall seed in March Madness.

Miller averaged 18.8 ppg, 8.2 rpg and 2.1 apg with Alabama before being selected No. 2 overall by Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets. If it was any other year, Miller would almost certainly have been the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, but unfortunately, all-time prospect Victor Wembanyama was also in the 2023 draft class.

The Hornets were never going to be able to pass on Miller’s talent, but Jordan was a huge advocate of brining in the 6’7 small forward. Miller appeared on the Knuckleheads podcast this week and shared a hilarious story of the first time het got to meet Jordan in person. Miller laughs at the memory saying, “He was talking cash money to me, then I seen him airball the free throw, and it was just up from there. You know, Jordan missing a free throw is crazy.”

Miller was sensational in his rookie season with the Hornets as he was named the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month three separate times. He was also named a First-team All-Rookie earlier in the week.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball news as the 2024 offseason progresses.

Brandon Miller shares hilarious Michael Jordan story

Brandon Miller shares a funny moment about the time he met Michael Jordan while appearing on the Knucklehead podcast.

Another day, another story on UNC legend [autotag]Michael Jordan[/autotag], this time shared by Charlotte Hornets Brandon Miller while appearing on the knucklehead podcast.

The knucklehead podcast with retired NBA players Quentin Richardson and Darius Miller hosted Miller on their pod asking the rookie about his first time meeting Jordan. Miller at the time went in for a workout with the Hornets, the team that would eventually draft him with the 3rd overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft.

That’s when the first time he met Jordan according to Miller, with a hilarious moment happening during the encounter.

Seeing Jordan airball a free throw has to be the equivalent of seeing a unicorn cross the street. It’s safe to say it has worked out for the Hornets, with Miller fitting in nicely and being named to the NBA All-Rookie first team.

Miller averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Down the stretch, Miller was counted on heavily, with Lamelo Ball being sidelined, for the majority of the season.

Jordan has yet to confirm or deny Miller’s claims of his airballed free throw.

Former Panthers CB, comedian Lou Young: Panthers need Cam Newton back

Ex-Panthers CB Lou Young compared former teammate Cam Newton to Michael Jordan and Beyoncé.

So, how can the Carolina Panthers get themselves a prime-time game? Well, if we don’t want to wait for the hard way, an old friend may have just laid down an easy track.

Former cornerback and current comedian Lou Young was featured as the guest host for last week’s episode of 4th & 1 with Cam Newton. When talking about the Panthers’ lack of national exposure this upcoming season, Young brought up Carolina’s glory days with Newton—whom he compared to Michael Jordan and Beyoncé.

“It ain’t been a lot of glitz and glamour since . . . since that 1 left,” he said. “I’m not trying to stir up no controversy. I’m just telling you, I had one of the greatest experiences of a lifetime.”

Young shared a locker room with Newton from 2014 to 2016, a run that featured Cam’s MVP campaign and the team’s trip to Super Bowl 50 in 2015. The Washington, D.C. native and Georgia Tech product appeared in six games for the Panthers in 2016.

He went on.

“Wake up and smell the coffee, man,” Young added. “I know it cost a lot to get this guy. I guarantee you . . . if Cam walk on the field, if they promise Charlotte, North Carolina, South Mint, The Bank—if they promise them Cam Newton is gonna be there Game 1, they might have a prime-time game.”

Yes We Cam 2024 . . . ?

Bulls supposedly don’t want to help LeBron James, Lakers

The Chicago Bulls may not want to help LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers don’t make many trades together. The two teams have only made seven trades together in their franchise histories and only one from 1983. That deal was in 2016 when the Bulls sent Jose Calderon, a 2018 second-round pick, and a 2019 second-round pick to the Lakers in exchange for  Ater Majok.

The question is, why do these two teams not make trades with each other? There’s no definite reason, but Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report believes that it has to do with Chicago’s ownership not wanting to help LeBron James, as the GOAT debate between him and Michael Jordan has gotten stronger and stronger over the years.

He discussed this with Jovan Buha of The Athletic during a recent edition of the “Buha’s Block” podcast. (H/t Farbod Esnaashari of Bulls News)

“Go look at the transaction logs of Lakers-Chicago,” Pincus said. “They don’t make trades together. The last one was like during when the Lakers were rebuilding and were terrible. The Bulls dumped an older Spanish point guard on them…I think their owner doesn’t want LeBron infringing upon Michael’s legacy,…The intel is that they’re just not gonna help LeBron.”

Are the Bulls just being petty? And is that a good thing?
