Texas A&M is an early transfer portal winner according to On3’s Pete Nakos

Texas A&M’s nine transfer portal commitments earned praise from On3’s Pete Nakos

The success of Texas A&M in the transfer portal comes as no surprise to those who followed the Aggies last offseason. Coach Mike Elko recruited nearly 30 players from the portal, including potential first-round NFL draft pick Nic Scourton.

This month, the Aggies landed nine commitments from the portal, led by former five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson (Texas Tech) and three edge commits, including former Florida defensive end T.J Searcy.

Concerning the Aggie fan base, it’s been hot and cold in terms of trusting Elko and his staff to land the depth pieces needed, especially along the defensive line. Still, patience is a virtue, and Elko deserves the benefit of the doubt based on past success.

While the 2025 roster needs more depth in the defensive interior and at least one more wide receiver, On3’s Pete Nakos praised the Aggies on Christmas Day, adding Texas A&M to his top six early transfer portal winners list.

  1. Texas Tech (17 commitments)
  2. LSU (13 commitments)
  3. Ole Miss (15 commitments)
  4. Auburn (14 commitments)
  5. Texas A&M (9 commitments)
  6. Oregon (6 commitments)

While Texas Tech has had a portal offseason similar to the Aggies last season, all nine of Texas A&M’s acquisitions epitomize quality of quantity. Over the next month, more commitments are expected.

Watch Texas A&M transfer WR Micah Hudson train this offseason

New Texas A&M wide receiver Micah Hudson is already looking the part this offseason

Texas A&M’s transfer portal success truly began when the Aggies landed former Texas Tech and five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson, who will join what now looks like a loaded wide receiver room in 2025.

During Jimbo Fisher’s final season in College Station, the Aggies nearly landed Hudson out of high school before eventually sticking with his original Texas Tech commitment. After one injury-riddled season, Hudson only recorded eight receptions and 123 yards but did make several eye-popping plays during his lone season in Lubbock.

Set to write a new chapter and (hopefully) successful career with an Aggie team in desperate need of wide receiver talent, Hudson has been working hard this offseason, getting back to running crisp routes and showing off his elite quickness and footwork.

In a recent video, Hudson was seen training with Margin Hooks of “Skys The Limit Training. ” In several shots, he is seen looking up to speed while wearing a Texas A&M sweatshirt, already embracing his future with the Maroon & White.

Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed revealed his recruiting pitch for transfer portal visitors

Texas A&M has landed five commitments from the transfer portal, and QB Marcel Reed has been a big part of it

Texas A&M’s transfer portal success now includes five additions, including former Mississippi State wide receiver Mario Craver, who committed to the Aggies on Tuesday morning.

Beating out Alabama for Craver, a native of the state, a big part of Coach Mike Elko’s strategy has been getting current players involved. This isn’t new, as every player is tasked with showing transfer players around campus, “selling” the program and University, and how each transfer can better their playing and educational future, which is the primary goal.

On Tuesday, Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed joined Mike Elko during A&M’s pre-Las Vegas Bowl press conference. The Aggies will face USC on Friday, December 27.

Reed, who will enter the 2025 offseason as the presumed starter, was asked about his involvement in guiding past and current visitors from the portal, revealing his official pitch:

“I would start with Kyle Field. Who wouldn’t you want to play here? You dream about playing in a great atmosphere, and we have the best in the country. Then the relationships that are here at A&M… Finally, Coach Elko. He never tells a lie to you. He is straightforward.”

While Kyle Field is undoubtedly the main draw on Saturdays, Elko and his staff are slowly building a culture that has begun to reap the benefits heading into the core of the offseason, and starting with only three players opting out of the Las Vegas Bowl outside of the 19 players who have departed through the portal.

Texas A&M’s 2025 wide receiver room is built on speed and potential

Texas A&M’s 2025 WR room is as deep as it’s been in years

Texas A&M has landed five commitments from the transfer portal, led by the newest addition of former Mississippi State wide receiver Mario Cramer, who is coming off an impressive freshman season with the Bulldogs.

On Sunday, former five-star and Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson announced his commitment to the program, filling out what looks like the best WR room Texas A&M has had under both Jimbo Fisher and Mike Elko, even though both new additions don’t bring in substantial on-field production.

While Hudson and Cramer will immediately compete for starting spots, the return of incoming senior Noah Thomas and sophomore Terry Bussey look like the 1-2 options on paper. At the same time, it’s important to note that five-star freshman WR Jerome Myles will not be present during the spring football season.

However, incoming sophomores Ashton Bethel-Roman and Izaiah Williams are names to watch after briefly showing off their skills during the 38-0 w win over New Mexico State. Speedster Ernest Campbell looks like the forgotten man on the roster after not seeing the field this season.

Lastly, Jerome Myles is joined by two of the faster receivers in the 2025 class. Kelshaun Johnson and TK Norman were risers toward the end of their recruitment, bringing immediate depth to a stacked rotation.

Compared to last season, OC Collin Klein’s focus on creating mismatches in the passing game should see more success with the added speed and athleticism that will pair well with the run game and set up play-action shot-downs field.

Mario Craver continues to be the name to watch. During his freshman season, he averaged 21 yards per catch, including 54, 46, and 72-yard receptions, consistently displaying his deep speed.

Incoming redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed has a lot of work ahead of him to improve after an up-and-down first season, but with these new additions to the receiving corps, Reed has plenty to work with to improve significantly next season.

Here is the current wide receiver depth chart in his current form:

  1. Noah Thomas (4-star prospect)
  2. Terry Bussey (5-star prospect)
  3. Micah Hudson (5-star prospect)
  4. Mario Craver (4-star prospect)
  5. Jerome Myles (5-star prospect)
  6. Ashton Bethel-Roman (4-star prospect)
  7. Izaiah Williams (4-star prospect)
  8. Kelshaun Johnson (4-star prospect)
  9. Ernest Johnson (4-star prospect)
  10. TK Norman (3-star prospect)

Former Texas Tech wide receiver has committed to Texas A&M

Former Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson is headed to College Station

Boom! Texas A&M has secured its fourth commitment from the transfer portal, as former five-star prospect and Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson is set to join Aggieland for his sophomore season, adding crucial playmaking ability to A&M’s wide receiver corps.

After visiting Texas A&M last week, Hudson was predicted to land with the Aggies from the outset. He almost committed to the program out of high school before sticking with his original Texas Tech pledge.

During his one and only season in Lubbock (TX), Hudson recorded just eight receptions and 123 yards through the air but showed off his elite ball skills on several occasions. However, his fit in the Texas Tech offense didn’t come to fruition, and a change of scenery while Texas looked like the goal.

Hudson originally planned to announce his commitment in under two weeks, including a potential LSU visit. Still, after the Tigers landed former Kentucky wideout Barion Brown, Hudson likely saw the Aggies as the best choice to make an impact right out of the gate in 2025.

Hudson joins 2025 five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles, incoming senior WR Noah Thomas, and sophomore Terry Bussey in what looks like a vastly improved WR room next season.

Texas Tech transfer WR is still heavily predicted to land with Texas A&M

Despite wanting to take other visits, Texas A&M remains the clear favorite to land WR Micah Hudson

Earlier this week, On3 recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong released his official prediction for Texas A&M to land a commitment from one of the top players in the transfer portal for five-star wide receiver and Texas Tech Red Raider Micah Hudson.

After one season in Lubbock (TX), Hudson recorded just eight receptions and 123 yards through the air but did show off his elite ball skills on several occasions during the year. However, his fit in the Texas Tech offense didn’t come to fruition, and a change of scenery while Texas looked like the goal.

After nearly landing a commitment from Hudson out of high school, the Aggies remain the favorite. In a recent interview with 247Sports’ Mike Roach (subscription required), the talented pass catcher felt right at home during his recent visit to College Station.

“It’s just very welcoming,” Hudson stated. “Being able to be around good-hearted people and getting questions answered that I needed to get answered, I was able to feel like myself and be around the culture. I got to see something that felt really good to see because I saw the difference with this year’s staff and last year’s staff.

Concerning head coach Mike Elko, Hudson appreciated his straightforward approach to his potential future role in the offense:

“It was no BS really. I felt like today, every area they didn’t BS me. They told me how it was and either I would do it or I wouldn’t. I was able to understand a lot of things I didn’t understand in my past recruitment.”

While Hudson still plans to make two more visits over the next two weeks, until further notice, the Aggies are the leaders in his transfer portal recruitment.

Texas A&M projected to land talented Big 12 wide receiver out of the transfer portal

On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos predict A&M to land Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson

Mike Elko is off to a solid start during the transfer portal season getting veteran UAB Jacob Zeno to commit to Texas A&M after a visit earlier this week. With that settled for now, the next position of need they are attacking aggressively is wide receiver.

It has been tough to recruit and maintain top talent at the wide receiver position at A&M, no matter the staff. They have recently lost a handful of receivers in the portal, like Evan Stewart last year and Cyrus Allen and Micah Tease this season.

On top of those transferring out, three receivers are out of eligibility causing a depth issue immediately. However, Elko has shown that he is not afraid to hit the portal hard to fill needs.

As a show of that they are hosting numerous talented wide receivers starting with Texas Tech receiver Micah Hudson out of Temple, TX. The former two-time District 4-5A Division I MVP had A&M in his final choices before ultimately signing with the Red Raiders.

Unfortunately for Hudson, his first year was hampered by an injury that limited his action and only played minimal snaps through eight games. Looking for a change of scenery Hudson enters the portal early this week with A&M as one of his first visits

After visiting on Tuesday, On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos confirmed that the talented receiver is predicted to land with Texas A&M. This would be a big step to adding more talent to the room to pair with the incoming class.

He completed the 2023 season with eight catches for 123 yards and zero touchdowns. Being that A&M was in his final choices the Aggies have a hand up in his recruitment.

Texas A&M will host Texas Tech transfer wide receiver this week

Texas A&M is set to host former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson this week

Texas A&M’s 2024 season will end after the Aggie’s Las Vegas Bowl matchup vs USC on Friday, Dec. 27. Still, until then, head coach Mike Elko and his staff are entirely focused on gaining talent through the transfer portal amid the Aggies now 17 departures.

This week, Aggie fans are split on whether the recent portal departures, including offensive linemen Kam Dewberry and TJ Shanahan, will impact the team in 2025. Texas A&M can afford nearly every departure on paper, but Elko needs to add depth pieces as soon as this week.

However, the good news is potentially on the horizon, as multiple sources, including TexAgs’ Ryan Brauninger, have confirmed that former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson will visit Texas A&M over the next two days as the once heralded five-star recruit was nearly an Aggie commit before choosing the Red Raiders.

Texas A&M desperately needs wide receivers, specifically receivers who can separate and run crisp routes while displaying the high-end athleticism to pick up significant gains through the air.

During his only season with the Red Raiders, Hudson recorded just eight receptions and 123 yards.

Texas A&M is reportedly a contender to land former 5-star wide receiver

Former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson has entered the transfer portal, and the Aggies are in the mix

When wide receiver Micah Hudson committed to Texas Tech over Texas A&M this time last year, many predicted that his time in Lubbock would depend on his first-year production, which came to 8 receptions and 123 yards through the air.

Unsurprisingly, Hudson has entered the transfer portal and will be one of the more coveted players by nearly every wide receiver-needy program, including Texas A&M.

Rated as a top-30 ranked prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the Aggies came very close during Jimbo Fisher’s final season in landing Hudson, but A&M’s in-season failures likely resulted in the Temple, Texas native staying the course and signing with the Red Raiders.

Underutilized in Texas Tech’s offense, Hudson is too talented to sit and wait on any roster. Given the Aggies’ 2024 issues in the passing game due to a lack of playmaking talent in the wide receiver corps, Hudson’s speed, versatility, and route running skillset would be a no-brainer addition.

According to Rivals’ Adam Friedman, Micah Hudson’s top contenders include Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Colorado, and Texas A&M. I expect the Aggie coaching staff to be very active with Hudson over the next month.

Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson among impact freshmen in 2024

No. 1 will be a must-see player during the 2024 season.

It isn’t too often you see a player the caliber of Micah Hudson on the South Plains in Lubbock, Texas, playing for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In fact, Hudson is the first five-star signee in school history. One could bank on Hudson being on full display this fall in the Zach Kittley offense.

Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports released his list of impact freshman and Hudson was among several wide receivers listed including Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Auburn’s Cam Coleman. You probably could throw Alabama’s Ryan Williams into the mix as well. No matter how you slice it, there are a lot of freshman wideouts who could make an impact this season.

What Myerberg Says…

That Hudson was slowed in the spring as he recovered from knee surgery makes it hard to say exactly what role he’ll play for Texas Tech as a freshman — whether he’ll see more spans as an inside receiver or on the outside, for example. But to be clear: Hudson is going to play a ton for the Red Raiders after choosing Tech over offers from every major program in the FBS. He has a chance to be a “generational player,” as coach Joey McGuire said at Big 12 media days.

Whether or not he plays inside or outside is irrelevant, the only thing that Behren Morton needs to do is get the ball into the hands of Hudson and let him cook.

Full list of impact freshman from Myerberg:

  • Jeremiah Smith, WR: Ohio State
  • Dylan Raiola, QB: Nebraska
  • Ellis Robinson IV, CB: Georgia
  • Cam Coleman, WR: Auburn
  • Rhys Dakin, P: Iowa
  • Williams Nwaneri, DE: Missouri
  • Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, LB: Notre Dame
  • Jordan Seaton, OT: Colorado
  • Dylan Stewart, Edge: South Carolina
  • Micah Hudson, WR: Texas Tech
