Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson among impact freshmen in 2024

No. 1 will be a must-see player during the 2024 season.

It isn’t too often you see a player the caliber of Micah Hudson on the South Plains in Lubbock, Texas, playing for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. In fact, Hudson is the first five-star signee in school history. One could bank on Hudson being on full display this fall in the Zach Kittley offense.

Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports released his list of impact freshman and Hudson was among several wide receivers listed including Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Auburn’s Cam Coleman. You probably could throw Alabama’s Ryan Williams into the mix as well. No matter how you slice it, there are a lot of freshman wideouts who could make an impact this season.

What Myerberg Says…

That Hudson was slowed in the spring as he recovered from knee surgery makes it hard to say exactly what role he’ll play for Texas Tech as a freshman — whether he’ll see more spans as an inside receiver or on the outside, for example. But to be clear: Hudson is going to play a ton for the Red Raiders after choosing Tech over offers from every major program in the FBS. He has a chance to be a “generational player,” as coach Joey McGuire said at Big 12 media days.

Whether or not he plays inside or outside is irrelevant, the only thing that Behren Morton needs to do is get the ball into the hands of Hudson and let him cook.

Full list of impact freshman from Myerberg:

  • Jeremiah Smith, WR: Ohio State
  • Dylan Raiola, QB: Nebraska
  • Ellis Robinson IV, CB: Georgia
  • Cam Coleman, WR: Auburn
  • Rhys Dakin, P: Iowa
  • Williams Nwaneri, DE: Missouri
  • Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, LB: Notre Dame
  • Jordan Seaton, OT: Colorado
  • Dylan Stewart, Edge: South Carolina
  • Micah Hudson, WR: Texas Tech

Report: 2024 5-Star WR and Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson visited Texas A&M this weekend

It has been reported that 2024 5-Star WR and Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson took a second visit to Texas A&M this weekend.

On Friday, 2024, five-star WR and current Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson was seen wearing Texas A&M gloves during Lake Belton’s game vs. Midlothian on Friday night.

Even though Lake Belton lost 49-28, Hudson recorded two touchdowns, including one in triple coverage, as the dynamic playmaker possesses shades of a younger Odell Beckham Jr. every time he touches the ball.

After taking an official visit to College Station during Texas A&M’s home matchup with Alabama, it has been reported that Hudson was back in Aggieland for a second visit, staying through the weekend while attending the Aggie Women’s Volleyball game. Look, this could mean something or nothing, but here’s my take: as locked in as Hudson is with the Red Raiders and head coach Joey McGuire, the relationships he’s developing with Jimbo Fisher and his staff will likely affect his final decision.

According to Rivals, Micah Hudson is currently positioned as the 6th-ranked player in the 2024 class, the 2nd-ranked wide receiver prospect, and the 2nd-ranked player in Texas.

Furthermore, after 2025 four-star WR Drelon Miller’s de-commitment from the program earlier this week, this leaves an opening for another stellar playmaker to join an already impressive wide receiver group in 2024, including Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, Jahdae Walker, Moose Muhammad, Micah Tease, and Raymond Cottrell.

2024 5-Star WR and Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson spotted wearing Aggie gloves

Ahead of Lake Beltons’ game vs. Midlothian, 2024 5-star WR Micah Hudson (Texas Tech commit) was seen wearing Aggie gloves (eyeball emoji).

Texas A&M’s (4-3, 2-2 SEC) 2023 season has reached its midway point, and things aren’t remarkably upbeat at the moment amid the Aggies’ two-game losing streak.

While a bulk of the fan base has reached an apoplectic state with five games remaining, most of the focus is on head coach Jimbo Fisher’s impending future at the helm, a small but possibly pivotal piece of recruiting information made its way through social media on Friday night, as five-star WR Micah Hudson was seen wearing Texas A&M gloves before Lake Belton’s Friday night game vs. Midlothian.

According to Rivals, Micah Hudson is currently positioned as the 6th-ranked player in the 2024 class, the 2nd-ranked wide receiver prospect, and the 2nd-ranked player in Texas.

Hudson is just a couple of weeks removed from his OV to College Station while attending Texas A&M vs. Alabama, and even though the Aggies lost the highly anticipated matchup, Hudson reportedly came away thoroughly enjoying his campus visit, staying through Sunday while attending Aggie women’s Soccer game.

I’m, of course, not avoiding the fact that Hudson has been committed to Texas Tech since June, and yes, I agree that any recruiting momentum concerning the Aggies amid their poor play on offense this season is likely non-existent at this time, but let’s be honest, it’s not an exact science.

Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson put 5 defenders on the ground on this TD catch-and-run

Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson showed why he’s a top high school football prospect on this catch-and-run for a touchdown.

Micah Hudson juked around the first defender after making a catch, putting the man on the ground. As he streaked up field, a pair of defenders collided with each other while in pursuit. Fifteen yards later, he was still on his feet, and two more defenders dove to no avail.

The five-star Texas Tech commit is rated universally as one of the top wide receivers in the class of 2024, and he used his not only his route running skills but his running back chops on this 75-yard touchdown reception in which just about half the defense tried, failed, and hit the dirt while in pursuit.

See his ridiculous takeoff below:

Hudson is a multi-sport athlete who, according to 247Sports and MaxPreps, has played football, basketball, soccer, and track and field during his high school career at Lake Benton (Texas) High School. That footwork from other sports was on display during the run, as he broke defenders’ ankles (figuratively) and put on a burst of speed for the radar gun.

Last season, Hudson had 65 receptions for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing 32 more times for 243 yards and a score. He has been on the high school scene since his freshman year, when he had 12 total touchdowns, six of them on the ground, according to 247Sports and On3.

He is ranked on the 247Sports Composite as the No. 7 player in the class of 2024 and No. 2 wide receiver.

Listed at 6-foot and 190 pounds, Hudson committed to Texas Tech on Sept. 11. Despite the commitment, Hudson is still reportedly visiting other schools, as he took an official visit to Texas A&M last week, according to On3’s Charles Powers. He has 35 offers, according to 247Sports.

2024 5-Star WR Micah Hudson reportedly had a successful visit to Texas A&M

After taking an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend, 2024 5-star WR Micah Hudson looked to have a highly successful time in CSTAT.

Despite Texas A&M’s 26-20 loss to Alabama last Saturday afternoon, the weekend was still a success, as over 300 prospects from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 recruiting cycles made their way to College Station.

Leading the pack, 2024 five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson, who is currently committed to Texas Tech, took his first official campus visit, and by the looks of it, Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff made significant headway with the elite offensive talent.

After attending the game among the 108,000 attending inside a raucous Kyle Field, his visit didn’t end there, as Hudson reportedly stayed the entire weekend into Sunday and attended the Texas A&M Women’s Soccer game against No. 19 Alabama, where the Aggies defeated the Tide 3-1.

Even though the Aggies failed to seal the deal against the Crimson Tide’s talented but beatable team, mid-season losses in the SEC are a frustrating part of competing in the toughest conference in the country. Albeit this sudden change of scenery at the quarterback position after the season-ending injury to Conner Weigman, Hudson likely knows that the Aggies’ future on offense is higher than most, including that of Texas Tech.

While Texas A&M’s talented 2024 wide receiver class is by far one of the top collections in the cycle, Hudson’s incredibly versatile skill set combined with his elite speed would put this group over the top, joining an already established wide receiver group that will likely include Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, Jahdae Walker, Moose Muhammad, Micah Tease, and Raymond Cottrell in 2024.

According to Rivals, Micah Hudson is currently positioned as the 6th-ranked player in the 2024 class, the 2nd-ranked wide receiver prospect, and the 2nd-ranked player in Texas.

Texas A&M will travel to face the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2:30 p.m. CT, inside Neyland Stadium (TV: CBS).

Watch: Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson hurdles a defender in a five-star Friday night performance

Micah Hudson, a five-star Texas Tech commit, showed his enormous potential on Friday night.

Micah Hudson continues to prove why he is one of the top recruits in the nation, putting together a sparkling performance on Friday night. Hudson did a little bit of everything and at times, made it look carefree and simple.

A five-star wide receiver at Lake Belton High School (Temple, Texas), Hudson committed to Texas Tech in mid-September. He is the No. 19 recruit nationally in the class of 2024 according to 247Sports.

His offer list included Alabama, Baylor, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Ohio State among others.

In a 52-48 win over Killeen (Killeen, Texas) on Friday, Hudson showed why he is the centerpiece of a very strong Texas Texas class of 2024:

With the win, Lake Belton has won four straight games and is now 6-1 on the season.

Texas Tech is at Baylor on Saturday night (8:00 PM ET, ESPN2)

2024 5-Star WR and Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson will reportedly take an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend

It has been reported that 2024 5-star WR Micah Hudson will take an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend and attend the Alabama game.

Multiple sources have confirmed that 2024 five-star wide receiver Micah Hudson, who is currently committed to Texas Tech, will take an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend and attend the Alabama game on Saturday afternoon.

Late Friday night, or early Saturday morning, that is, TexAgs analyst Ryan Brauninger and Rivals recruiting insider Landyn Rosow confirmed the news, as head coach Jimbo Fisher and his staff have yet to give up on by far the most talented player in the 2024 cycle, as he will join over 300 prospects from the 2024l 2025, and 2026 cycle who are also attending the game.

According to Rivals, Micah Hudson is currently positioned as the 6th-ranked player in the 2024 class, the 2nd-ranked wide receiver prospect, and the 2nd-ranked player in Texas.

While Texas Tech and Joey McGuire still hold all the cards, their disappointed 2-3 record this season certainly isn’t helping their chances at securing Hudson’s commitment heading into National Signing Day in February.

Texas A&M will host No.10 Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2:30 p.m. CT, inside Kyle Field (TV: CBS).

Watch: Let’s all appreciate Micah Hudson’s athleticism for a moment

Micah Hudson can’t be stopped in Friday night lights.

There is a reason why Micah Hudson is a five-star recruit with some of the biggest offers in the nation. The wide receiver showed his tantalizing athleticism on Friday night in one of his highlight plays.

Hudson, a 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver from Lake Belton High School (Temple, Texas), is a Texas Tech commit. On this play on Friday night, he showcased his leaping ability, going up high in stride to make a really fantastic catch. And then he turned that catch into a touchdown for his team.

Simply unreal stuff from Hudson.

A five-star in the 247Sports Composite, Hudson is certainly an impressive playmaker.

Hudson held offers from Alabama, Baylor, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State among others.

Through the first four games of the season, Hudson has been very impressive with 23 catches for 457 receiving yards with five touchdowns.

Belton is currently 4-1 on the season.

Texas A&M loses 2024 5-Star WR to former Big 12 opponent

The fight to land 2024 5-star WR Micah Hudson has reached a conclusion, for now at least, as Texas Tech has secured his commitment.

The Micah Hudson sweepstakes have come to a close, as the 2024 five-star wide receiver committed to Texas Tech on Monday night, proving that many of the recruiting prognosticators who were indeed correct in predicting the Red Raiders to gain the best athlete the cycle has to offer.

Though Texas A&M and the Texas Longhorns were primed to make a push this summer, Hudson opted to visit Texas Tech on the same weekend he was slated to travel to College Station during the Aggies recruiting pool party on the last weekend of July. Hudson revealed to Rivals National Recruiting Analyst Cole Patterson what ultimately sealed the deal between both parties down the stretch.

“Their pitch has always just been real relationships,” Hudson told Rivals. “That’s really what it is. I don’t have to be Michael Crabtree. I don’t have to be Patrick Mahomes. I can just be me.”

Hudson is the highest-ranked player ever to commit to the Red Raiders. He brings an offensive skillset that can take a program to the next level due to his game-changing ability every time he touches the ball.

Texas A&M’s talented 2024 wide receiver class is by far one of the top collections in the cycle, and while Hudson would have been the best addition by far, give credit to Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire, who, amid an 0-2 start to the 2023 season, created a lasting connection with the Temple, Texas native.

According to Rivals, Micah Hudson is currently positioned as the 6th-ranked player in the 2024 class, the 2nd-ranked wide receiver prospect, and the 2nd-ranked player in Texas.

Texas Tech lands a coveted wide receiver in Micah Hudson.

Hudson, a five-star wide receiver, is ranked the No. 19 player in the nation for the class of 2024 according to 247Sports. He plays for Lake Belton High School (Temple, Texas).

Coming into the week, Texas Tech had a top 30 recruiting class in the nation. Landing Hudson will likely see them jump several spots.

Last season, Hudson had 1,198 receiving yards on 65 receptions with 14 touchdowns. This year through three games, Hudson has 17 receptions for 317 yards with three touchdowns.

Hudson has good hands and is a strong route runner. He has good leaping ability and is twitchy athletic.

In the open field, he is fast and elusive with the ability to get chunks of yards with just a sliver of space.
