Merrimack at Saint Mary’s picks and predictions

Prediction

Saint Mary’s 77, Merrimack 59

Moneyline

Saint Mary’s (-5000) will cost you 50 times your potential return, which is obviously way too much risk for not nearly enough reward. In fact, you must risk $100 for every $2 of profit. That’s ridiculous, and not a recommended long-term betting strategy.

PASS, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread

PLAY MERRIMACK +20.5 (-110) catching this massive amount of points in Moraga.

The Warriors have managed to cover 4 of the past 5 games, and it is 3-1 ATS in the past 4 games as a double-digit underdog, including a straight up win at Troy Nov. 29 as an 11-point underdog.

Saint Mary’s -20.5 (-115) is just 1-3 ATS in the past 4 games, while going 3-7 ATS in 10 games this season.

Over/Under

OVER 129.5 (-110) is a strong play in this battle out west.

The Gaels have cashed low in 5 of the past 6 games, as SMC struggles to score, while locking it down defensively. Saint Mary’s has scored 76.2 PPG while hitting just 31.4% from behind the 3-point line. The Gaels have allowed just 63.4 PPG, while teams are hitting just 38.8% from the field.

For Merrimack, the Over is 5-2 in the past 7 games. However, the Warriors have really struggled offensively, going for 63.3 PPG, among the worst marks in the nation, while hitting just 41.1% from the field and 30.1% from behind the 3-point line.

Merrimack at Rutgers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Merrimack at Rutgers odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Merrimack Warriors (1-2) and Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0) tangle Wednesday in Piscataway. Tip time at Jersey Mike’s Arena will be 8 p.m. ET (Peacock). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Merrimack vs. Rutgers odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Merrimack last played on Sunday, losing to the 5.5-point-favorite Princeton Tigers 68-57. The Warriors went just 7-of-30 from distance, and they have shot an anemic 16.3% on 3s over their last 2 games.

Rutgers has been quite good defensively and has thus far held opposing shooters to a 38.7% mark from the floor. The Scarlet Knights failed to cover a -22 their last time out Friday, a 98-81 triumph over the Monmouth Hawks.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4132″ ]

Merrimack at Rutgers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rutgers 78, Merrimack 57

Moneyline

No interest. AVOID.

Against the spread

The Scarlet Knights are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 November home games when favored by 20-plus points.

Rutgers is the much deeper team, but it has not really acted accordingly with a scoreboard to match since its season opener. Still, the advantage in this game, especially when it comes to getting high-quality around the basket, is worthy of a Knights-by-20 type of prediction.

In failing to turn big leads into covers the last 2 games, the Knights have been hurt by opponent 3s and a lack of disruption on the defensive end. Those areas of concern are mostly mitigated against a Merrimack team shooting 23.9% from distance and filing loose turnover numbers so far.

Depth and size issues figure to have the Warriors in down-15 territory by the middle minutes of the second half. Look for a better close from Rutgers in this one.

BACK RUTGERS -18.5 (-120).

Over/Under

The pace for this game figures as something right in the middle. And there are a few matchup factors favoring a bit of scoring spiral and a few that could slow things down.

So, the lean here is a slight one, but the upside of this total gets just a sliver of a nod. A big night at the rim for RU is the sway factor.

Consider a partial-unit play on the OVER 133.5 (-112).

NEC Tournament: Wagner at Merrimack odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Wagner vs. Merrimack odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Wagner Seahawks (15-15) and Merrimack Warriors (21-11) meet in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship Game Tuesday at Hammel Court in North Andover, Mass. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Wagner vs. Merrimack odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Sixth-seeded Wagner finished the regular season 2 games under .500 at 13-15, but the Seahawks posted NEC Tourney wins over Sacred Heart (60-57 in a Wednesday quarterfinal) and Central Connecticut State (66-56 in a Saturday semifinal) to get to the title game. Wagner won both games as an underdog, +6 in the quarterfinal and +6.5 in the semi, while cashing the Under in both outings. As a matter of fact, Wagner is on a 5-0 Under run.

Second-seeded Merrimack won the NEC Tournament last season, but was unable to get an NCAA Tournament bid due to transition rules. Fairleigh Dickinson took its spot, and made history winning as a 16-seed over Purdue.

In this NEC Tourney, the Warriors topped Long Island 72-66 in a Wednesday quarterfinal and Le Moyne 61-51 in a Saturday semifinal to get to the championship game. They split against the spread (ATS), failing to cover as 15-point favorites vs. LIU and covering as 7-point favorites vs. Le Moyne while cashing the Under in both outings. Merrimack is 4-1 O/U in its last 5 games and 6-2 O/U in the last 8.

Merrimack and Wagner split their 2 games this regular season with the road teams snagging the win. Wagner took the first meeting as a 6.5-point underdog 71-65 Jan. 19 as the Over (122.5) cashed. The Warriors exacted revenge 6 days later, winning 60-44 as 2-point favorites with the Under (124.5) connecting.

Wagner is looking to make it back to the NCAA Tournament for just the 2nd time in school history. It lost its only previous appearance to Pittsburgh in 2003, falling 87-61. Merrimack is looking to make its first trip to the Big Dance.

Wagner at Merrimack picks and predictions

Prediction

Merrimack 64, Wagner 61

Moneyline

Merrimack (-310) will cost 3.1 times the potential return. That’s way too expensive considering Wagner (+245) has already proven it can win in North Andover. In fact, it’s a little wacky, but the road team has won and covered each of the previous 5 meetings dating back to Feb. 12, 2022. If anything, Wagner would be worth a roll of the dice.

AVOID.

Against the spread

WAGNER +6.5 (-102) is worth a look catching nearly 6.5 points in this NEC title game.

Again, the road team has covered in 5 in a row, while Wagner has a 5-3 ATS advantage in the past 8 meetings.

The Seahawks wrapped up the regular season with just a single cover in the final 6 games, but it covered both games in the NEC tourney so far, including a stunner over top-seeded Central Connecticut State.

The Warriors have managed to go just 4-6 ATS across their past 10 outings, and again, it lost outright as a 6.5-point favorite to Wagner at home Jan. 19.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 119.5 (-115) appears to be the best option on the board.

This is an awfully low number, and we saw 136 combined points in the first meeting in North Andover with a total of 122.5 back on Jan. 19.

Wagner has cashed the Under in 5 in a row, and the defense has allowed 57 or fewer points in 4 of the past 5 outings dating back to the regular season. However, Merrimack dropped 71 in the first meeting, and Wagner has averaged a respectable 62.5 points per game against the Warriors in the 2 regular-season meetings.

NEC Tournament: Fairleigh Dickinson at Merrimack odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Fairleigh Dickinson at Merrimack odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (19-14, 10-6 NEC) visit the Merrimack Warriors (17-16, 12-4) in the Northeast Conference Tournamant title game Tuesday at Lawler Arena at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Fairleaigh Dickinson vs. Merrimack odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Merrimack lost 4 conference games this season and 2 of them were to FDU. A 71-63 win by the Knights on their home court Dec. 29 was followed a month later with a 78-71 road victory. The Warriors will need to win this game on the road as well to win the conference tournament.

Unlike most conference title games, an automatic bid to March Madness is not at stake. FDU has already locked this up as Merrimack in not eligible to compete due to division rules for teams moving up in competition.

Merrimack has the 18th-ranked defense in the country at 61.8 points per game while FDU ranks top 40 in offense averaging 78.3 PPG. If the Knights can again get to 70, which it has done in both matchups this season, it will pull off another victory and head to the Big Dance with momentum.

Fairleigh Dickinson vs. Merrimack picks and predictions

Prediction

Fairleigh Dickinson 71, Merrimack 68

Moneyline

BET FDU +155.

FDU has beaten Merrimack twice already this season. While Merrimack has a solid defense, it has been unable to hold FDU below 70 points yet this season. This will be the case again on Tuesday and Fairleigh Dickinson will pull off the win for the conference title.

Against the spread

PASS.

The wrong team is favored. Saying this, I will ride with FDU +155 on the moneyline and not make a wager on the spread of 3.5 points. If you want to be a bit safe, +3.5 (-105) is also a good play for Fairleigh Dickinson.

Over/Under

OVER 138.5 (-105)

The Over has hit in 4 of 5 games for FDU following an ATS victory. In the same scenario for Merrimack, it has gone over in 8 of 9 games. The Over has also hit in 4 of the Warriors last 5 Tuesday games.

The Knights will use its offense to force Merrimack’s 335th-ranked offense (61.3 PPG) to score points to keep up. It will have plenty of ability to do this against the Fairleigh Dickinson defense which allows 76.0 points per game.

The 138.5 is a bit too low. If it remains Under 139.5, the Over is the side.
