Sunday’s matchup between the Florida Gators (13-7, 9-6 SEC) and the Tennessee Volunteers (16-7, 9-7 SEC) represents the regular-season finish line for both schools after a season buffeted by the coronavirus pandemic. After two COVID pauses and a layoff after SEC Preseason Player of the Year Keyontae Johnson‘s freak health scare, the UF men’s basketball team persevered through the most difficult season in recent memory.
In Johnson’s absence, sophomore point guard Tre Mann has stepped his game up to the next level kept the Gators buoyant in the NCAA Tournament picture despite some difficult losses. Big wins against Tennessee the first time around as well as the West Virginia Mountaineers has helped bolster their postseason resume, though the second meeting with the Vols still carries a lot of weight.
Tipoff is scheduled for noon EST in Thompson-Boling Arena, Knoxville, Tennessee and will be broadcast on ESPNU, livestreamed on the ESPN app and can be heard on the Gators Sports Network.
