Gators News: Men’s golf takes first place, MBK hosts Vandy

Florida sports programs continue to roll along through its early spring schedule as the Rowdy Reptiles awaken from their winter slumber.

We have reached the middle of another week and the Florida Gators athletic program continues to roll along through its early spring schedule as the Rowdy Reptiles awaken from their winter slumber.

At the top of the news, the men’s golf team scored their first top finish of 2021 on Tuesday at the Timuquana Collegiate in Jacksonville, shooting 21-under par to tie with the Liberty Eagles for the final lead after two days of action, while winning a two-hole playoff to take the event title.

Tonight, the men’s basketball team is back in action for its second game of the season against the Vanderbilt Commodores, this time in the O’Connell Center with tip off scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST. The Gators are coming off big wins against a top-10 ranked Tennessee Volunteers squad as well as their rivals the Georgia Bulldogs and will be looking to extend their winning streak.

Finally, the University of Florida Athletic Association has officially launched the Gators Made program, which will focus on providing student-athletes with enhanced tools for career success. Here is what athletic director Scott Stricklin had to offer on the new program.

“The comprehensive and continued education of our student-athletes remains a priority in the Gators athletic program. A staple of those programs over the years has been financial literacy, along with career and personal skills development. Gators Made adds personal brand and social media development to better position student-athletes for current and long-term success.”
