The final month of 2020 is quickly coming to a close as we wade through New Year’s week. There are three games on tap before the ball falls on Thursday night, with the Florida Gators set to take on the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl while the men’s basketball team gets back into action against the Vanderbilt Commodores tomorrow.
The third game, however, ran into some coronavirus trouble but is fortunately back on track.
The women’s basketball team was scheduled to also face Vandy the following day on New Year’s Eve but that game has been postponed due to a combination of positive COVID-19 tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals. In its place, an away game with the South Carolina Gamecocks, originally slated for Feb. 25, has been rescheduled for Dec. 31.

Around the Swamp
- A bit of trash talk ahead of the Cotton Bowl: “Oklahoma is a good matchup, but they’re not on our level. They’re not the SEC. They’re not the Florida Gators. So we should put on a good show.”
- Gators receiver Trevon Grimes to sit out Cotton Bowl, enter NFL draft: Grimes made the announcement on his personal Twitter account on Monday.
- Florida will be without its top receiver in the Cotton Bowl: Toney will be sorely missed in Gainesville. His speed and agility make him one of the most unique and dangerous players in the nation.
- Keyontae Johnson has new role with Florida as he continues recovery from scary collapse: The Gators practiced Sunday for the first time in 15 days and have had two practices since as they prepare to open conference play Wednesday at Vanderbilt.
- Lessons, changes college football programs are going to take from dealing with COVID-19: Most of the changes made in college football to meet the demands of the coronavirus pandemic won’t outlast the vaccine.
It’s great to be a Florida Gator!
"We've had 15 days off…we're extremely grateful @Keyontae is doing well."
