Florida Gators men’s basketball star forward Keyontae Johnson and his subsequent condition following his collapse on the court during a game against the Florida State Seminoles last Saturday has been the primary focus of the Gator Nation’s thoughts and prayers over the past week.
On Friday afternoon, he released a statement on his personal Twitter account for the first time since the event, thanking the fans for their support while also appearing to be in good condition, all things considered.
He began his message to his faithful followers with this statement.
“Hey, everybody. First and foremost, I’d like to thank God. I know y’all been sending y’alls prayers out the last few weeks, and me and my parents are really grateful for all the prayers that’ve been going out…”

He went on to thank the staff at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital as well as UF Shands, with a special emphasis on the support that Florida State offered. Finally, he thanked the Gator Nation and the support that he has received from the Orange and Blue.
It has been a white-knuckled path toward recovery for Johnson, who initially was hospitalized and put into a medically-induced coma but has come around the corner in recent days. Hopefully, he will be able to return to the parquet soon and continue to lead the Gators men’s basketball team en route to a first-round draft pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
