Grizzlies at Nets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Grizzlies 114, Nets 109

Money line (ML)

The Nets were upset as 11-point road favorites by the Charlotte Hornets 106-104 Sunday. Durant and PG Kyrie Irving held up their end of the bargain; KD scored 29 points on 9-for-15 shooting with 4 assists while Irving had 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting and 6 assists. Brooklyn’s major issue was Charlotte feasting on the inside as the Hornets outscored the Nets 64-26 in the paint.

Memphis took a 122-112 home loss to the Atlanta Hawks as a 2.5-point favorite Saturday. The double-digit margin doesn’t indicate how close the game was but the Grizzlies did have an off-night shooting as Memphis made only 40% of its field goals and 30% of 3-pointers.

The Grizzlies won and covered the spread in both meetings with the Nets last season but it’s hard to take a lot away from those performances as Durant wasn’t playing for Brooklyn and Irving played in only the first head-to-head meeting—a 134-133 overtime win for Memphis.

Last season, Memphis led the NBA in points in the paint per game with 55.9 PPG and was 4th in fast-break points (17.2 PPG). Brooklyn was 10th in opponent’s PITP last year and didn’t have any notable bigs depart the team so the Nets’ last game could’ve been an aberration or a result of new coach Steve Nash’s game plan. The Grizzlies had a meager 44 PITP vs. the Hawks but had 66 PITP in their first game against the San Antonio Spurs last Wednesday.

Also, being as Grizzlies-Nets is part of a back-to-back for Brooklyn, KD could take a precautionary rest-day since he spent last season sidelined by injury. If Durant isn’t playing, I like the Grizzlies outright and we’re going to get an awesome price.

For now, I’ll “LEAN” GRIZZLIES (+280) for a quarter-unit with a plan to bet the spread heavier.

Against the spread (ATS)

BET GRIZZLIES +5.5 (-110) for 1.5 units. The pro-Memphis argument is in the section above and all we’re doing is making the safer/wiser play on Grizzlies plus points.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL.I’ve projected this game to fall short of BetMGM’s total; however, the market is betting the Over, according to Pregame.com. The market sees something I don’t, apparently, and I don’t feel like fading it.

Hawks at Grizzlies: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Grizzlies 124, Hawks 114

Money line (ML)

The Hawks looked worthy of their preseason hype in their first game of the season when they crushed the Chicago Bulls 124-104 as 2-point road favorites. Trae Young torched the Bulls for a game-high 37 points on 10-for-12 from the field, and 5-for-6 in threes, with 6 rebounds and 7 assists.

Memphis lost its season-opener at home to the San Antonio Spurs 131-119 as 2-point favorites despite an amazing Ja Morant performance. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year dropped 44 points on 18 of 27 shootings with 9 assists.

The Grizzlies won and covered in both games against the Hawks last season, which included 17- and 39-point beatdowns. Young struggled in both outings: He had under 20 points in each, shot below 30% from the field, including just 1-of-14 from three, and a combined 12 turnovers in both games.

Atlanta being without its two best defensive guards is going to be a problem vs. Morant who can get to the rim at will. Also, Grizzlies C Jonas Valančiūnas was a nightmare for the Hawks last season: Valančiūnas averaged 21 points, 16 rebounds with a 175 offensive efficiency rating and made 80% of his field goals. Furthermore, who knows how effective Atlanta’s new big, Clint Capela, who is battling an Achilles’ injury, can be, but he will most likely suit up.

GIMME GRIZZLIES (-120) for 1.5 units.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS ON THE SPREAD. I’d rather pay the extra 10 cents on the dollar than lay 1.5 points with the Grizzlies.

Over/Under (O/U)

Both Hawks-Grizzlies games last season went Under the total, and that mostly falls on an Atlanta team that only averaged 94.5 points in those games. The Hawks had the fourth-highest percentage of Overs last season and had a leisurely 124 in their first game.

Atlanta will almost definitely play with more crispness on offense in this game against a Memphis team that got rolled by the Spurs Wednesday and was 21st in opponent’s points per game last year.

I LEAN” OVER 236.5 (-115) for a quarter-unit.

Spurs at Grizzlies: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Grizzlies 118, Spurs 115

Money line (ML)

The Grizzlies are coming off a 34-39 season which came up just short in a playoff bid in the August bubble upon the restart. Injuries took a toll as the Grizz finished the season 2-7 after returning to play.

While Jackson will remain out to start 2020-21, Rookie of the Year PG Ja Morant will lead the way to a GRIZZLIES (-145) victory over a Spurs team that went 32-39 a year ago. SG DeMar DeRozan and PF LaMarcus Aldridge lead the way for Gregg Popovich’s bunch, but the absence of White to begin the season will be felt against a deep and well-rounded Memphis side.

Memphis is a +15000 long shot to win the 2020-21 NBA championship, according to BetMGM, while San Antonio is +25000. These NBA futures odds give us a good read on early-season handicaps. Side with the house and bet the Grizzlies.

Against the spread (ATS)

MEMPHIS -2.5 (-110) offers a little better value to win by at least 3 points Wednesday and should be backed at a very manageable number. The Grizzlies’ head-to-head victories last season came by 4 and 13 points.

Over/Under (O/U)

Bet the OVER 231.5 (-110) lightly. Both teams allowed over 113 points per game last season with a negative 1.1 point differential. Two of last season’s four meetings played to a total of more than 250 points.
