It was 23 years ago today that Larry Johnson hit one of the most memorable shots in Knicks history. His four-point play in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals propelled the Knicks to the 1999 NBA Finals and became one of the franchise’s most iconic moments. Now, more than two decades later, Johnson’s game-worn jersey from that night has surfaced. A collector purchased Johnson’s game-worn jersey from the four-point play last month for $63,000 at Heritage Auctions.

Sixty-three thousand may seem like a significant amount of money for game-worn attire, but @goatcollect was happy to pay it. “The cultural significance of this jersey to the city of New York and Knicks fans across the world cannot be put into words. Owning this jersey was a day I have been waiting for since my childhood. We have never quite seen the Garden erupt like it did on June 5, 1999. I get chills just thinking about it. “As a collector, I focus on nostalgia and collecting the moment; and this piece is as relevant of an artifact that I can think of as Knicks fan. Now I just need to find Sprewell and Houston’s 1999 Playoff jerseys.”

Kobe Bryant rookie jersey sells for $2.73 million

Kobe Bryant’s game-worn Lakers jersey from his first playoff series – the only one publicly known/available – just sold for a riiiiiiidiculous amount of money … $2,735,546 million, to be exact! The threads were on the block at SCP Auctions … and …

On Saturday, the Celtics wore black t-shirts with an orange print that reads “WE ARE BG.” Jaylen Brown also spoke about the issue and called for authorities to help Griner be released, highlighting that “enough is enough.” After seeing the Celtics’ gesture, James reposted the video on his Instagram Story and captioned it with “#WEAREBG” as the Lakers star tried to bring more awareness to the issue. -via Clutch Points / June 5, 2022
With the Celtics now three wins from No. 18, the rhetoric is likely about to get ramped up again. And, notably, the trash talk. “It always means everything when you’re going up against the Lakers,” says Cedric Maxwell, who won two titles in Boston, including MVP of the 1981 Finals, and is known for tossing barbs at Laker great James Worthy both in the media and in private. “They’re supposedly tied with us,” he said. “People say they’re the standard-bearer of the NBA but the Celtics have been that since the start. And James Worthy, after we win this championship, I want you to smell our ass as we’re going by.” -via ESPN / June 4, 2022

Kobe Bryant’s shooting shirt from his iconic 81-point game just sold for a massive $277,000 at auction — and the lucky buyer also got a one-of-one NFT that came with it. The shirt is a one-of-a-kind piece … not only was it worn by the Mamba before he scored the 2nd-most points ever in an NBA game (back in 2006), experts at Sotheby’s tell TMZ Sports it’s the ONLY worn piece from that game on the market. We’re told it was worn six other times by Kobe, too — including in the 2006 playoffs.

A ticket that Cole stashed for years in his basement alongside some other keepsakes turned out to have more than sentimental value. It was one of two tickets that nearly doubled the record for the most expensive vintage sports ticket when their auctions closed early Sunday morning. Cole’s ticket sold for $468,000, including a 20 percent buyer’s premium. A ticket stub from Jackie Robinson’s 1947 Major League debut fetched $480,000. The highest-graded ticket stub from Jordan’s NBA debut set the record in December when it sold for $264,000. -via Yahoo! Sports / February 27, 2022
While Cole offered the second ticket to a few hallmates, none agreed to journey with him from Evanston to Chicago’s West Side. The Bulls weren’t much of a draw back then on the heels of three straight losing seasons. Nor was there much buzz preceding the debut of a rookie guard from North Carolina drafted after Hakeem Olajuwon and Sam Bowie. And so, on Oct. 26, 1984, Cole traveled by himself by train to Chicago Stadium and picked up two tickets at the will-call window. One he used to get into the game and later discarded. The other sat in his shirt pocket that evening before finding a permanent home in a manila folder where he kept old tickets from memorable games he attended. -via Yahoo! Sports / February 27, 2022
