The NFL has been the pinnacle of football for years. However, there have been many other leagues that have come and gone, and on Tuesday a new league held their draft as teams began to fill out their rosters.

The United States Football League (or USFL), held the first day of their 2022 draft, which consisted of 12 rounds. Multiple former Baltimore Ravens players were selected over the course of the night, including quarterback Kenji Bahar, edge Aaron Adeoye, and cornerbacks Mazzi Wilkins as well as Terrell Bonds.

Ravens make three roster moves ahead of Week 17 matchup vs. Rams

The Ravens made three roster moves ahead of their Week 17 game with the Rams

The Baltimore Ravens have been no stranger to making roster moves, especially over the course of the 2021 season. With injuries and COVID-19 severely impacting their season, the team has had to find contributions from elsewhere on the roster and even outside of the organization

On Saturday, the team announced three roster moves ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams in putting rookie outside linebacker Daelin Hayes on injured reserve, signing offensive tackle David Sharpe to the 53-man roster and placing practice squad defensive back Mazzi Wilkins on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Hayes only played in one game for the Ravens during his first year in the NFL, but had knee and ankle injuries impact his season. Sharpe has played well for the team in spurts, and Wilkins has spent the last few weeks with Baltimore on their practice squad.

Ravens place another defensive back on Reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Week 15

The Baltimore Ravens have seen their defensive back room be absolutely decimated by injuries over the course of the 2021 season. Now, COVID-19 is making it’s way through the position. It was announced by the team that cornerback Jimmy Smith was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Sunday morning, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reporting that Smith tested positive for the virus.

With Smith out, the Ravens activated defensive back Mazzi Wilkins from the practice squad as a replacement for him. Wilkins originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2019.

Wilkins only has three total tackles in his limited NFL career, but Baltimore needs every player they can to fill out their defensive back lineup for their game in Week 15.

Aside from Smith, the Ravens will be without cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters and Chris Westry, as well as safeties DeShon Elliott and Chuck Clark.

Ravens announce two practice squad moves

The Ravens made two practice squad moves on Monday

The Baltimore Ravens stand at 3-1 through four weeks of the 2021 NFL season. They have overcome injuries, having to acclimate new faces to the team and more, and have put together and impressive performance all things considered.

Players from Baltimore’s practice squad have been stepping up in a big way. Call ups have been playing at a high level as they fill in for injured players. On Monday, the Ravens announced that they had made two changes to their practice squad. They signed defensive back Mazzi Wilkins, while releasing defensive back Linden Stephens.

Wilkins played at the University of South Florida for five seasons after redshirting for his freshman year. He finished his college career with 110 total tackles and three interceptions in 47 games. He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2019, spending two years with the Buccaneers. He most recently spent a week on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad.

Stephens signed with Baltimore’s practice squad on September 21st. He didn’t appear in a game for the Ravens.

Cardinals sign CB Mazzi Wilkins to practice squad

They add a cornerback with Marco Wilson’s availability for Sunday in question.

The Arizona Cardinals added a defensive back to the practice squad after releasing kicker Matt McCrane on Tuesday. The team announced Wednesday they signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Mazzi Wilkins to the practice squad.

Over the last two seasons, Wilkins played in six games for the Bucs. He has three career tackles, playing mostly on special teams. He has only 12 defensive snaps in his career but has played65 snaps on special teams.

The 6-foot, 191-pounder played collegiately for South Florida.

With rookie cornerback Marco Wilson currently dealing with an ankle injury, the Cardinals need some extra depth on the roster, even if it is just for practice.

If Wilson is unable to go, it means that Luq Barcoo, Tay Gowan or Antonio Hamilton, who filled in after Wilson got hurt, will get playing time on defense.
