Floyd Mayweather to return for exhibition with Logan Paul on Feb. 20

Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring for an exhibition with YouTube personality Logan Paul on Feb. 20.

The biggest name in boxing is coming back. And he’ll be joined by a star from a different realm.

Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring on Feb. 20 for an exhibition against YouTube personality Logan Paul, the brother of Jake Paul, who knocked out Nate Robinson on the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. card on Nov. 28.

Mayweather made the announcement on his Instagram account.

The Mayweather-Paul exhibition will be streamed on pay-per-view, with the first 1 million buys costing $24.99. The price will jump to $69.99 after that mark is reached or as the fight draws near.

Mayweather, 43, hasn’t taken part in a sanctioned bout since 2017, when he stopped Conor McGregor in a hugely successful event. He faced kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition the following year.

Logan Paul, 25, faced fellow YouTube star KSI in a sanctioned bout in November of last year, losing a split decision. That followed an exhibition between the two.

Mayweather weighed 149½ when he fought McGregor. Logan Paul weighed 199¼. However, Paul has crude boxing skills at best.

Boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. and YouTube personality Logan Paul have reignited talk surrounding the possibility of the two facing off inside a boxing ring after exchanging trash talk on social media.

Mayweather retired in 2017. He has since competed in a one-sided exhibition fight in Japan, and apparently will do so again next year.

However, after Paul posted a video online claiming he would “snap Floyd in half,” Mayweather hinted that he would accept an exhibition with Paul before he heads to Japan.

“If I caught Floyd in a real fight? I’d whup him. MMA? I’d whup him,” Paul said in the video on TMZ. “The only place Floyd is safe is the boxing ring.

“I would fight Floyd any time, any place. If I caught Floyd with one punch, I would snap him in half. I’m eight inches taller, 40 pounds heavier, half his age, two times as hungry, 10 times as smart.”

On Wednesday night, Mayweather’s response referenced his last official boxing match, against MMA star Conor McGregor, who stepped into the American’s world and suffered a 10th-round stoppage in Las Vegas.

“These YouTube girls better find some Barbie dolls to play with cause I’m not the one for the kid games,” Mayweather posted on social media. “Three years ago a fighter from the UFC said my name and I had to put a muzzle on that b—-.

“Paul can get the same treatment before I go conquer Japan again.”

Of course, although Paul makes mention of beating Mayweather in a street fight or anywhere other than a boxing ring, there is practically zero chance of the 43-year-old agreeing to anything that isn’t entirely in his own wheelhouse or anything that isn’t extremely lucrative.”

Floyd Mayweather irked by fans calling 54-0 Menayothin ‘best ever’

Floyd Mayweather has enjoyed riling up diehard boxing fans with his claims to be the greatest of all time for many years. Now, it appears the tables have turned.

Many feel Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) cannot be considered superior to the likes of Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson just because they lost fights.

However, in August 2018, strawweight titleholder Wanheng Menayothin improved his record to 51-0 with a successful defense against Pedro Taduran. He is now 54-0, and recently reveresed his decision to retire.

Menayothin is expected back in the ring in November, where he will seek victory No. 55.

Though the strawweight champ’s list of vanquished opponents is far less impressive than that of Mayweather, some fans who feel Mayweather carefully protected his perfect record in his selection of opponents have repeatedly proclaimed Menayothin as the “real best ever” to tease the American.

And it appears to have worked, going by an interview Mayweather conducted with Club Shay Shay.

“I’m 50-0 for a reason,” he said. “Right now they got a fighter that’s over in Asia that’s 54-0, and they say, ‘This is the new TBE,’ because he’s about to retire.

“I said, ‘Y’all telling me about this fighter that fought one world champion?’ He’s 54-0 and only beat one world champion? This is who y’all are trying to call TBE? OK, y’all are some comedians.”

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Mayweather will return to a boxing ring or stay retired.

He has been linked with everything from a legitimate boxing return against a current welterweight to another crossover attraction against a big name from the UFC to an exhibition against YouTube star Logan Paul.
