Bellator 282 video: Sabah Homasi ends bad blood with crushing KO of Maycon Mendonca

When it came time to fight, Sabah Homasi backed up his trash talk at Bellator 282 when he floored rival Maycon Mendonca.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. โ€“ [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] stays violent.

At Bellator 282, Homasi (17-10 MMA, 6-4 BMMA) once again displayed the power in his hands when he crushed rival Maycon Mendonca (11-6 MMA, 0-2 BMMA) with a brutal right hand that ended the fight 58 seconds into Round 1. The event took place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Like many Homasi fights, the battle began long before the cage door closed. At Thursday’s ceremonial faceoffs, Homasi and Mendonca were restrained after a verbal altercation turned physical and continued off-stage.

When it came time to fight, Homasi backed up his trash talk when he clobbered Mendonca with a violent overhand punch, which sent the Brazilian into the cage, then canvas. The knockout sent the crowd into a frenzy, as well as Homasi’s corner which consisted of Dustin Poirier, Mike Brown, and Thiago Alves.

With the win, Homasi has won two in a row and six of his most recent eight. Meanwhile, Mendonca enters a two-fight skid, still yet to win since his UFC signing in 2021.

Bellator 282 ceremonial faceoffs video: Main eventers stay respectful after Danny Sabatello and Leandro Higo mouth off

Check out the Bellator 282 ceremonial faceoffs which featured Gegard Mousasi, Cat Zingano, and Danny Sabatello vs. Leandro Higo.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. โ€“ The Bellator 282 ceremonial faceoffs took place Thursday outside Mohegan Sun Arena box office where MMA Junkie reported live.

Among those partaking in the ceremonial event was champion [autotag]Gegard Mousasi[/autotag] (49-7-2 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) and challenger [autotag]Johnny Eblen[/autotag] (11-0 MMA, 7-0 BMMA), who will fight in the main event Friday at the same casino.

Also on the card, heated rivals and grand prix quarterfinal opponents [autotag]Leandro Higo[/autotag] (21-5 MMA, 4-3 BMMA) and [autotag]Danny Sabatello[/autotag] (12-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) locked eyes and pressed faces as the theme of trash talk boiled over into their faceoff. Their fellow tournament participants [autotag]Enrique Barzola[/autotag] (18-5-2 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) and [autotag]Magomed Magomedov[/autotag] (18-2 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) kept their hands to themself, though words were exchanged.

None of these were as heated as [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] (16-10 MMA, 5-4 BMMA) and [autotag]Maycon Mendonca[/autotag] (11-5 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), however who were restrained after a physical altercation on stage โ€“ then were separated backstage, too.

Also on the card, former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger [autotag]Cat Zingano[/autotag] (11-4 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) squared off with [autotag]Pam Sorenson[/autotag] (9-4 MMA, 1-1 BMMA).

Video: Sabah Homasi, Maycon Mendonca restrained after physical altercation at Bellator 282 faceoffs

Watch things get physical at Bellator 282 as Sabah Homasi and Maycon Mendonca get super physical.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. โ€“ Things got a little bit spicy at the Bellator 282 ceremonial faceoffs Thursday outside the Mohegan Sun box office.

While Leandro Higo and Danny Sabatello stole the show with trash talk leading up to weigh-ins, [autotag]Sabah Homasi[/autotag] (16-10 MMA, 5-4 BMMA) and [autotag]Maycon Mendonca[/autotag] (11-5 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) were the focal point during them. The two engaged in a physical altercation during their faceoff, and that continued behind the curtain out of the view of cameras.

After they mouthed off and Homasi shoved Mendonca, the two continued to jaw. Homasi hurled Portuguese insults at Mendonca and the two were separated both onstage and off-stage in the casino foyer by Bellator fight operations personnel.

While there may have been bad blood behind the scenes, there was no feud in the public eye or on social media leading up to the faceoff. Homasi has a history of explosive and physical altercations, most memorably two with Paul Daley in 2020.

Bellator 282 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena with the main card airing on Showtime after prelims on MMA Junkie.

Bellator is back this week with a title fight at the top of the card.

Bellator 259 takes place Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, women’s featherweight champion [autotag]Cris Cyborg[/autotag] (23-2 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) puts her title on the line in a rematch with challenger [autotag]Leslie Smith[/autotag] (12-8-1 MMA, 2-2 BMMA). Cyborg is a huge favorite at -1400 at BetMGM, so it’s no surprise she’s one of three unanimous picks on the main card from our editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers.

In the co-feature, former bantamweight champ [autotag]Darrion Caldwell[/autotag] (14-4 MMA, 11-3 BMMA) takes on [autotag]Leandro Higo[/autotag] (20-5 MMA, 3-3 BMMA). Caldwell is a -350 favorite, and he’s a 12-0 unanimous pick from our staff members.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Fabian Edwards[/autotag] (9-1 MMA, 5-1 BMMA) takes on [autotag]Austin Vanderford[/autotag] (10-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) in a middleweight bout. Vanderford is a -225 favorite, but two of our pickers are taking Edwards in an upset.

[autotag]Maycon Mendonca[/autotag] (11-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) is a slight favorite at -125 in his welterweight bout against [autotag]Jaleel Willis[/autotag] (14-2 MMA, 2-0 BMMA). But it’s Willis with a big 10-2 picks lead.

Unfortunately, the bout expected to open the main card, which saw [autotag]Christian Edwards[/autotag] (4-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) as a big -650 favorite at light heavyweight against [autotag]Ben Parrish[/autotag] (4-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), was called off following the day’s official weigh-ins. Edwards was our third unanimous pick.

Inย the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Cyborg (86 percent), Caldwell (77 percent), Vanderford (70 percent), Willis (85 percent)ย andย Christian Edwards (83 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.

LFA 96 results: Maycon Mendonca bests Batsumberel Dagvadorj in thriller, claims vacant belt

An all-out war in the LFA 96 main event might be a late candidate for “Fight of the Year” consideration.

[autotag]Maycon Mendonca[/autotag] and [autotag]Batsumberel Dagvadorj[/autotag] gave it their all in Friday night’s LFA 96 main event.

With the vacant LFA welterweight title on the line, Mendonca (10-4) and Dagvadorj (7-0) engaged in a five-round, all-out war. In the ย end, Mendonca earned a unanimous decision over Dagvadorj, with 50-45, 49-46, 49-46 scores that don’t do justice to the tenacity with which Dagvadorj fought.

The tempo was set early in the fight. Mendonca had his moments and Dagvadorj returned fire with a flooring blow. Through the second, third, fourth, and fifth rounds, both men slowed at times, but always found a way to accelerate once again.

Dagvardorj came forward with reckless abandon and sought takedowns while he flung punches. Mendonca, on the other hand, found his technical striking and plum clinch knees his most successful weapon. Mongolia’s Dagvardoj, battered and bruised, displayed a strong chin and ability to reset himself when needed.

For those who haven’t already tallied their 2020 superlative votes, the bout might be a late candidate for “Fight of the Year” consideration.

In the co-main event, Dana White’s Contender Series alumnus [autotag]Anthony Romero[/autotag] (9-0) kept his undefeated record alive when he defeated a gritty [autotag]Zach Juusola[/autotag] (11-7) via unanimous decision.

Earlier on the card, Stipe Miocic teammate [autotag]Mo Miller[/autotag] (5-0) added another highlight-reel finish to his resume. The suplexes worked for Miller all night. To finish the fight, he slammed and knocked out [autotag]Regivaldo Carvalho[/autotag] (5-3) in Round 2.

LFA 96 took place Friday at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kan. The card streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
