UFC Fight Night 205 results: Maycee Barber grinds out decision win against Montana De La Rosa

Maycee Barber makes it two in a row, outpointing Montana De La Rosa at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 205.

The momentum continues to build for [autotag]Maycee Barber[/autotag].

“The Future” picked up a unanimous decision win over [autotag]Montana De La Rosa[/autotag] on the main card of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 205 in Las Vegas. Barber (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) outpointed De La Rosa (12-6-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) 30-27 on all three judges’ scorecards.

It was a grueling affair that had both fighters fighting at close quarters for the majority of their 15-minute flyweight bout.

De La Rosa looked to close the distance and force Barber to wrestle. The 23-year-old was content grappling with De La Rosa. And although Barber was controlled for certain portions of the fight, she was able to get a slight edge in the wrestling plus managed to do more damage than De La Rosa in all three rounds.

The first and third were pretty strong rounds by Barber. The closest round of the contest was the second where De La Rosa was able to take Barber’s back and establish a good amount of control.

With this result, Barber is now on a two-fight winning streak, putting behind the pair of consecutive defeats that marked the first losses of her career. Barber was undefeated until she came up short in back-to-back decisions against Roxanne Modafferi in 2020 and then Alexa Grasso in 2021.

Meanwhile, De La Rosa suffered her first defeat since 2020. She was coming off a technical knockout win over Ariane Lipski at UFC Fight Night 189 in June and prior to that, she fought to a draw in a bout against Brazil’s Mayra Bueno Silva.

Maycee Barber expects to finish Montana De La Rosa: ‘She can easily be broken’

Maycee Barber is confident she’ll stop Montana De La Rosa at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 205.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Maycee Barber[/autotag] doesn’t think she’ll need the full 15 minutes of her next UFC bout to walk away with a win.

The 23-year-old prospect expects to stop opponent Montana De La Rosa at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 205 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Barber (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) sees deficiencies in De La Rosa’s game that will allow to be confident that a stoppage win is looming.

“She can easily be broken,” Barber told MMA Junkie at the UFC Fight Night 205 media day on Wednesday. “She doesn’t like to get hit and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. We’re going to hit her and we’re going to break her.”

Barber feels she has an edge over De La Rosa in every part of the game, including the grappling department where De La Rosa shines.

“She’s a fighter in the UFC, so she obviously has a lot of skill. But at the same time, everywhere that she has skill, we’re better,” Barber said. “I’m better than her in the striking, in the grappling, in the wrestling – and I know that’s one of her stronger suits. … If she tries to take us down, stop the takedown and beat her up – or who knows, maybe we’ll let her try to wrestle and we’ll wrestle her back.”

[lawrence-related id=2539867,2537579]

Barber is coming off a split-decision win over Miranda Maverick in July 2021. She was set to return in late 2021, but an injury derailed those plans. The flyweight fighter is happy to be back in form and ready to compete.

“As soon as I got hurt, I looked at Danny and was like, ‘This is not supposed to happen. This is not supposed to be going on right now. I’m supposed to fight in December and I’m supposed to stay consistent. This is not supposed to happen,'” Barber said. “So for me to be able to fight finally is what’s most important. But also being able to have such a great opponent to get a finish against – I’m really excited.”

The UFC is zoning in on a new opponent for Erin Blanchfield.

[autotag]Maycee Barber[/autotag] won’t be fighting at UFC 269.

Like her originally-scheduled opponent Montana De La Rosa, Barber (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has withdrawn from the Dec. 11 pay-per-view event for an undisclosed reason. [autotag]Erin Blanchfield[/autotag], who replaced De La Rosa in mid-October is expected to remain on the card.

Coach Urijah Faber referenced Barber’s possible withdrawal on the LFA 117 broadcast Friday.

While the promotion has not finalized a replacement, the current frontrunner to face Blanchfield (7-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is highly-touted flyweight [autotag]Miranda Maverick[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC).

As for Barber (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC), who is also one of the youngest fighters on the UFC roster at age 23, she will look to continue her recent success on the heels of a split decision win over Miranda Maverick in July. Maycee Barber defends split decision win over Miranda Maverick at UFC on ESPN 27

Maycee Barber is confident she beat Miranda Maverick at UFC on ESPN 27.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Maycee Barber[/autotag] thinks the result speaks for itself.

The women’s flyweight prospect is confident she was the rightful winner against Miranda Maverick on the main card of Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 27. Barber (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) beat Maverick (9-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) with a split decision. She took a pair of 29-28 scores from two of the three judges.

There was controversy online. Many thought Maverick had done enough to deserve the nod from the judges. But Barber discarded the online discord and is confident she won the fight.

“I won that fight and I got my hand raised,” Barber told reporters at the UFC on ESPN 27 post-fight news conference. “I don’t read Twitter. I don’t read comments. I don’t pay attention to any of that.

“I did what I needed to do, the judges did what they needed to do, and I got my hand raised. That’s pretty much all there is to it. I’m confident I won that fight and I feel like I won in the spots that matter – the little details. I’m ready to go back and train and get a finish next time.”

[lawrence-related id=649781,649784]

Barber entered UFC on ESPN 27 with back-to-back losses to Alexa Grasso and Roxanne Modafferi. They were the first two defeats of her professional career.

Barber didn’t think she was in desperation mode for the fight against Maverick. She said she enjoys the pressure and plans on keeping it moving forward.

“I didn’t feel like I had my back against the wall and I don’t feel like I had pressure lifted off my shoulders,” Barber said. “I want that pressure. The pressure, anticipation and nerves that I put on myself is not bad energy. It’s an expectation for myself, and I want to keep those expectations. So no – no pressure lifted off my shoulders. It’s on there because I want the belt. So let’s keep it on there until I get to the title.”
