Maxim Strbak scores OT winner for Slovakia

A Spartan defenseman scored an OT winner in the world junior tournament

Michigan State hockey lost star defenseman Maxim Strbak for the holiday break when he went to play in the world juniors tournament, representing his home nation of Slovakia.

In Monday’s game between Slovakia and Kazakhstan, it was an overtime thriller, and the Spartan was the hero.

Strbak scored the overtime winner to push Slovakia ahead of Kazakhstan, keeping their tournament dreams alive. Watch the goal via X.

MSU defenseman will be an assistant captain at the world juniors

With the world juniors taking over the hockey world as the year turns to 2025, eyes are on the future of hockey as they represent their home countries.

While Trey Augustine is the most notable Spartan playing in the tournament, MSU defenseman Maxim Strbak will be representing Slovakia in the tournament. Not only will Strbak be representing Slovakia, he has been named as an assistant captain and will be wearing the ‘A’ during the tournament.
