I expect the Timberwolves to win and cover as -200 favorites, but they are not worth the risk of betting on at this price, especially when I expect this contest to be much tighter than the odds suggest. Pass on this bet, and play the spread and/or total instead.

This is a game that I expect to be very close, as Dallas has what I expect to be the better offense, while Minnesota is better defensively. I also like the depth of Minnesota more. However, Dallas has the better scoring potential and the best player in G Luka Doncic, and that will be enough to keep this game close, as both teams are still figuring things out at this point of the season.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 222.5 (-110).

The Under is 2-1 in Minnesota’s games this season and has hit in back-to-back games for Dallas. Both squads are among the top third of the league defensively, and while both teams have players that can stuff the stat sheet, the defense is what will be the storyline of this game.

The MAVERICKS (+180) continue to be undervalued by the market in road games. Dallas is 3-0 straight up/ATS in its last 3 away games and is holding opponents to just 102.3 points per game over that stretch. A veteran team that is fully committed on the defensive end of the court should be pretty consistent on the road.

The Timberwolves’ best player is a 22-year-old in Edwards. He seems worn down after a 7-game series against the Denver Nuggets, while G Kyrie Irving (30 points in Game 1) seems to just be getting started after conserving energy and picking his spots against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

BET MAVERICKS (+180).

Against the spread

The Mavericks +5.5 (-110) should hit, but Dallas ML at plus money is the better opportunity if you’re looking to take advantage of a higher payout.

Over/Under

In the last two weeks, the Mavs are 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS with the latest being a 110-91 home win versus the Houston Rockets Wednesday without Luka Doncic.

According to both Pregame.com and VegasInsider.com, a vast majority of the action is on the Timberwolves (-160).

I’m assuming this is based on the public seeing Minnesota lose by 2 points to the MAVERICKS (+130) in Dallas earlier this week and figure the T-Wolves won’t lose a second straight to the Mavs, this time at home.

But, that’s what will happen. Dallas played with their food against Minnesota and should have comfortably won that game. The Mavs were up as many as 16 points versus the T-Wolves Monday and held a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter.

Also, this is a bad matchup for Minnesota since it feasts on forcing turnovers and crashing the glass. However, Dallas has one of the best offensive turnover and defensive rebounding rates in the Association.

I’ll SPRINKLE on the MAVERICKS (+130) only because Dallas’s spread is the much sharper play.

Against the spread

Definitely BET the MAVERICKS +3.5 (-108) heavier than or instead of their ML based on the previous analysis and as a fade against a market that’s barrelling into the T-Wolves -3.5 (-112).

The bottom line is the market has lazy analysis of this matchup and just figures Dallas cannot beat Minnesota twice in the same week. But the Mavs have a better winning percentage, adjusted net rating and ATS margin versus top-10 teams than the T-Wolves, according to CleaningTheGlass.com.

Furthermore, Dallas is 6-0-1 ATS in the last 7 road games, 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings with Minnesota and 11-6 ATS on the road versus teams with a winning record.

The MAVERICKS PLUS THE POINTS is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 228.5 (-110) because Dallas is 13-21 O/U versus teams with a winning record, the Mavs are 9-11 O/U as road underdogs and the T-Wolves are 10-14 O/U as home favorites.

Also, Dallas plays at the slowest pace in the NBA so if they control the tempo there should be fewer possessions.

But, I’m not as confident in the Under as I am about Dallas and the Over has cashed in five of the past six Mavericks-Timberwolves meetings.

PASS on the money line. The Wolves are riding high after a solid home win over the Lakers. At -150, I would rather look toward the points to find value on the healthier side.

Against the spread

BET on the TIMBERWOLVES +3.5 (-107) as the Mavericks haven’t been able to find much offense without Doncic.

Bullock is also out, a player that typically helps create without their star. The Wolves have the 8th-best defensive rating, so they should be able to tame Tim Hardaway Jr.

With the marginally worse record, the Wolves have the better net rating of the two teams, suggesting they’re a touch better than their sub-.500 record indicates.

The Wolves rank 4th in offensive rebounding rate while the Mavericks are just 14th in defensive rebounding rate. I’ll take the more aggressive, healthier side in this one.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 213.5 (-108) as the better of the two sides. The Wolves have been a competent scoring team without Doncic, having topped 103 points in their last three games.

Jalen Brunson has stepped up nicely to command the offense. Similarly, the Wolves have big-time shot makers and have scored 110 or more points in 3 straight games.

The Over is the better play here.

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Timberwolves (+225) since I “like” Minnesota plus the points and question Dallas’ motivation to win this game.

What’s the Mavs’ incentive for winning? To play the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round? Dallas probably isn’t ducking anyone, but the Mavs could certainly be looking ahead to the postseason.

Against the spread (ATS)

A lot of people think the T-Wolves should be in “tank mode” but they’ve instead opted to see what the future looks like with PG D’Angelo Russell, No. 1 overall pick Anthony Edwards and C Karl-Anthony Towns. When they’ve been on the floor together, the T-Wolves are playing well.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, Minnesota has a plus-5.2 points per 100 possessions differential with those guys on the floor. The ‘Wolves are also in the 98th percentile of lineups in offensive efficiency and 97th percentile of effective field-goal shooting.

Minnesota has been playing harder than pundits want to admit and I’ll BET the TIMBERWOLVES +7 (-110) and their young core play the Mavs tough in the regular-season finale.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 230.5 (-110) for a half unit because the Over has cashed in four of the last five Mavericks-Timberwolves meetings and in Dallas’ past four.

Also, the T-Wolves have one of the worst defenses in the league and I don’t see the Mavs getting after it defensively.
