Matt Light details prank that ‘went a little too far’ with Bill Belichick

“Honey, please don’t that. He’s going to fire you this time.”

Matt Light was fearless when it came to pranking Bill Belichick.

The former New England Patriots left tackle spent 11 seasons with the team and built a relationship that many fail to replicate. Light joined former teammate Willie McGinest on NFL Network and reminisced on a prank that may have ‘went a little too far’.

Light began the story by repeating his wife’s reaction, “Honey, please don’t that. He’s going to fire you this time. He’s going to cut you and you’re not going to have a job.”

He dove into the prank an explained how he replaced Belichick’s computer mouse one day with a mouse that delivers a shock. Belichick didn’t necessarily enjoy the prank — eventually giving consequences to the entire team.

“I’d totally forgot about it the next morning,” Light said. “I walk in and, you know, everyone’s tired and beat up from training camp. I see Berj (Najarian), who’s his assistant, right there and he’s like, ‘Light, you went a little too far on this one.’ So that did not go well. He lost all of the information on his computer. He was angry at me for about a month. I had to run a little extra at practice, but we made it through.”

Light didn’t learn his lesson after that. He pulled the same prank on Belichick — asking him to sign a football with a pen that delivers a shock. He didn’t reveal the consequences from the second prank, but did say he enjoyed his time in New England.

“We had a lot of fun,” Light said. “We definitely enjoyed our time in New England.”
