AEW Rampage results 02/09/24: The Young Bucks just want some respect

A look at the results from the Feb. 9 episode of AEW Rampage.

While “We want Cody” may have been the headline in the pro wrestling news this week, AEW continues its in-ring action with Rampage, maintaining the momentum from one of the best episodes of Dynamite ever.

This episode doesn’t shy away from featuring big names. With the Undisputed Kingdom fighting the Best Friends, the new-look Matthew and Nicholas Jackson in action, and the rare AEW women’s main event, the show deviates from its typical “C” show status. Let’s dive straight into the action from Phoenix.

AEW Rampage results:

  • Roderick Strong, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett (with Adam Cole in a wheelchair and Wardlow at ringside) def. Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero by pinfall; Strong hit Heartache on Romero through a handful of chairs after the match
  • A video package recaps Swerve Strickland vs. Hangman Adam Page from Dynamite
  • The Young Bucks def. Mondo Rox and Robbie Lit by pinfall; Matthew and Nicholas Jackson enter the venue, still wearing their blood-soaked suits from Dynamite, to a new video and music that had “Succession” vibes
  • After the match, Matthew and Nicholas say they’re exhausted by everyone’s disrespect; Nicholas demands everyone call them by their full names; Matthew congratulates Darby Allin and Sting for winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship, but he says Allin and Sting “are a little banged up” after their win and hopes they’re OK; Matthew says their goal is to win the titles back and it begins with a match on Wednesday’s Dynamite
  • A video package hypes Orange Cassidy vs. Tomohiro Ishii for the AEW International Championship that will take place on Saturday’s episode of Collision
  • Mistico def. Matt Sydal by pinfall; Star Jr. taunts Matt Menard after the match
  • Brian Cage says he’s looking for HOOK after his chair attack; Prince Nana sympathizes with Cage after his own chair shot; Cage says he’ll defeat any two people tomorrow on Collision
  • Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander (with Stokley Hathaway) def. Saraya and Ruby Soho (With Harley Cameron) by pinfall; Saraya accidentally hits Soho during the match, and when Saraya attempts a tag, Soho leaves the apron and walks away; Skye Blue creepily stares down Nightingale and Statlander after the match and Julia Hart joins her moments later to close the show

AEW Dynamite results 09/27/23: Switchblade guns for MJF, Swerve and Hangman are fired up

Adam Cole also delivered some bad injury news on AEW Dynamite from Broomfield.

The card for AEW WrestleDream this Sunday seems pretty much set since there are already nine confirmed matches. But that doesn’t mean tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite from the greater Denver area couldn’t still shake up things for Seattle somehow.

It’s not 100% clear how just by looking at what’s been promoted for tonight’s show, to be fair. Willow Nightingale will take on Julia Hart in what should be a great pairing of two of AEW’s rising stars, but Hart already has a title shot this weekend against Kris Statlander.

The same is true of the four-way battle between Orange Cassidy, Penta, Matt Jackson and Austin Gunn. Will it be fun? Almost certainly. But those peeps are already half each of four teams who will be competing for a future tag team title shot in Seattle.

Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland will sign on the dotted line before they tear into each other at WrestleDream, so perhaps there will be a wrinkle added there. A last minute stipulation of some sort can’t be ruled out.

There’s also the unfortunate matter of a potential injury to Adam Cole. Tony Khan said that his status would be addressed on Dynamite, and since he and his Better Than You Bay Bay partner MJF are scheduled to speak, hopefully it won’t be to tell us that Cole can’t go come Sunday.

Certainly, Khan’s cryptic comments about the end of an era and the beginning of a new one, which he has chosen to keep enigmatic, have raised some eyebrows. Could there be some hints toward what might be coming on Dynamite?

There’s only one way to find out. Well, two ways, really. Let’s get into this show and see what’s what.

AEW Dynamite results from Broomfield:

(please scroll down for full details on any match or segment in bold)

  • Rey Fenix def. Jeff Jarrett by pinfall to retain the AEW International Championship
  • A video shows MJF trying to cheer up Adam Cole by hanging out together on a boat (his dad’s, apparently) off Long Island, but Max is disappointed that Adam was on the phone with Roderick Strong so long and teases hitting him with the Dynamite Diamond Ring and tossing him overboard … but Cole sees that coming (though MJF denies it) and explains it’s OK to have more than one friend, and they end up drinking beers with Captain Insano after catching him with a fishing rod
  • Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita are shown in Tokyo looking for Kenny Omega’s secrets or something, but that was apparently before tonight as they’re up next
  • Renee Paquette talks to The Don Callis Family, who revel in adding Sammy Guevara to their ranks and apparently have already attacked Kota Ibushi in Japan
  • After the Death Match with Bryan Danielson, Ricky Starks brags that he survived, but Wheeler Yuta drops by to call him an entitled prick and says if he disagrees, they can find out in Seattle … and the match has already been added to WrestleDream
  • Nick Jackson def. Brian Cage and Claudio Castagnoli, earning himself a shot at Fenix next week
  • The Righteous deliver a message to Adam Cole and MJF about fake friends ahead of their title match at WrestleDream
  • Adam Cole has bad injury news, and to make matters worse for MJF, Jay White has the Triple B in his sights
  • Jim Ross has a sitdown interview with Christian Cage and Darby Allin, who argue about the tutelage of Nick Wayne and their upcoming TNT Championship match at WrestleDream
  • Orange Cassidy def. Penta El Zero Miedo, Matt Jackson and Austin Gunn
  • Julia Hart def. Willow Nightingale by pinfall, then gets out of dodge when Kris Statlander hustles to aid Willow after the bell
  • Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page sign on the dotted line, but not without some verbal barbs and a touch of violence
  • Backstage, Jay White is getting beaten up by men in all black and devil masks …

AEW Dynamite preview 09/27/23: Hangman-Swerve contract signing, Willow vs. Julia

Better Than You Bay Bay will also be on AEW Dynamite tonight from the Denver suburb of Broomfield.

It’s almost time to dream. WrestleDream, that is, this Sunday in Seattle. The brand spanking new pay-per-view is a tribute to the late Antonio Inoki, but also has a bit of an air of mystery about it. Nevertheless, there is business to attend to first, and that means AEW Dynamite from the Denver adjacent town of Broomfield.

What’s on tap? Only two matches have bee promoted so far. One will see Willow Nightingale slightly less cheerful than usual as she takes on Julia Hart. An all business attitude might help since Hart has been on a tear as of late, and will face Kris Statlander for the TBS Championship on Sunday.

The other advertised bout for Dynamite is a four-way dance that is a preview of the four-way tag team top contenders match on the WrestleDream card. Penta, Matt Jackson, Orange Cassidy and Austin Gunn will all do battle tonight to get … we suppose a mental leg up on the competition for the weekend.

Talking segments? Yes, we’ve got some of those too. Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Strickland will have the contract signing for what has quickly become one of the most personal WrestleDream feuds. Christian Cage and Darby Allin will have a sitdown interview with Jim Ross ahead of their 2-out-of-3 falls title match in Seattle. And we’ll hear from Adam Cole and MJF, who will defend their ROH tag team titles against The Righteous on Sunday.

Could there be more beyond what AEW is promoting? Quite possibly, especially when it comes to matches as the above doesn’t feel like enough to fill two hours. But that’s why we watch, right?

We’ll certainly be watching starting at 8 p.m. ET on TBS. If you aren’t able to do the same, please consider visiting us again at Wrestling Junkie as we’ll have live results and updates as they happen.

AEW Dynamite results 05/31/23: Britt, Adam lower the Boom, CM Punk confirmed

Get filled in on all of the action from AEW Dynamite in San Diego.

AEW Dynamite usually promotes a bunch of matches and segments well ahead of time. For tonight’s show in San Diego? Not so much.

That’s not to say we didn’t have any advance notice about what’s on the card. For instance, the mixed tag match pitting Adam Cole and Britt Baker against Chris Jericho and Saraya was advertised last week. And after his dramatic betrayal of The Elite Sunday at Double or Nothing, we knew we’d hear from Konosuke Takeshita (and, sadly, Don Callis).

But the rest of the slate was a mystery until this afternoon. Now we know some more of the matches, starting with a title defense by a champ whose reign has only been a few days. TBS Champion Kris Statlander has issued an open challenge, and it was answered by Nyla Rose.

Other wrestlers who were prominent at Double or Nothing will also be in action. The Blackpool Combat Club is undoubtedly riding high after defeating The Elite, but they’ll have to be on top of their game to defeat the Lucha Bros. and Bandido. Swerve Strickland, Big Bill and Trent will collide in a three-way dance, and Orange Cassidy will team with Darby Allin to face the Gates of Agony.

So that’s a lot more info than we had before. Plus we haven’t even gotten to the thing that has been the subject of equal parts excitement and eye-rolling, another announcement from Tony Khan about the debut episode of AEW: Collision next month. Will he confirm the participation of a certain Mr. Brooks? And will anyone be salty if the announcement is anything else?

(Spoiler: Yes. Yes they will.)

Let’s see how this all goes down.

AEW Dynamite results from San Diego:

  • Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta) def. Lucha Bros. and Bandido by pinfall
  • Matt Jackson says the BCC brings out the worst in The Elite, Nick Jackson says one setback won’t bring them down, and Hangman Adam Page is interrupted by what’s left of the Dark Order, who seem jealous; Page also confirms that Kenny Omega has left the country … but he’s not in Canada
  • Tony Schiavone talks to Jay White and Juice Robinson, who say Ricky Starks doesn’t have any friends and call FTR “a little bit slow,” and after beating the Top Guys up, they flee as Starks chases them off and challenges White to a match next week
  • Tony Khan has another announcement about the debut of AEW: Collision, and it’s what we expected: the show will feature CM Punk
  • Swerve Strickland def. Big Bill and Trent by pinning Trent
  • The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass tell Rene Paquette they want gold again, and that Billy Gunn deserves to hold gold one more time — an idea that proves popular with the fans
  • Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita come to the ring to plenty of boos, with Callis saying his new family is going to cut The Elite out of AEW
  • Arn Anderson and Wardlow tell Luchasaurus if he wants to be next in line, so be it
  • Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy def. Gates of Agony by pinfall, and Sting is on hand to prevent a post-match beating from the Mogul Embassy
  • A pre-recorded MJF promo has the champ claiming that no one is on the level of the Devil
  • Schiavone welcomes Hook to the ring, and when La Faccion Ingobernable attacks him, a chair-wielding Jack Perry comes to his aid
  • Toni Storm and The Outcasts scoff at the idea that there’s anyone good enough to hang with them
  • Kris Statlander def. Nyla Rose by pinfall to retain the AEW TBS Championship, as Taya Valkyrie looks on backstage
  • Britt Baker and Adam Cole def. Saraya and Chris Jericho by pinfall, with Hikaru Shida and her kendo stick on hand to neutralize the other Outcasts

AEW All Access episode 3 recap: Full Gear

Episode 3 shows the time before and during AEW Full Gear, including the returns of Saraya and The Elite.

Bridgeport, CT, four days before Full Gear …

Tony Khan arrives, with his appearance on Busted Open playing in the background.

Matt Jackson says they’re going to make it official that The Elite will be back at Full Gear. The Young Bucks assure Christopher Daniels that they’re ready to return but discuss some uncertainty about whether the fans missed them or not. Daniels says the “crappy skeptics” will be outweighed 20-1 by people who are glad to see them again.

Matt also mentions a “black eye” on everything they’ve accomplished over the years, an oblique reference to the post-All Out Brawl.

Sammy Guevara gets props from Matt Hardy for his match with Bryan Danielson last week. He says his match this week is also big since he’s in with three legends (Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli), and he wants to show the world he belongs with them.

Britt Baker is shown doing a pre-tape that she says makes her nervous since Saraya’s promo went so well, and we see Saraya filming her segment with Renee Paquette. Baker notes that every week in pro wrestling feels like the biggest week of your career, but she really thinks this match is high profile because even people who aren’t wrestling fans know Saraya — something Britt aspires to.

Dynamite is underway, and we see Khan reacting to some of the matches. Guevara again puts over the big names in his tag team match, a preview of the four-way title bout at Full Gear.

Matt Jackson says the reaction to the vignette that confirms the return of The Elite takes his imposter syndrome away, and Nick Jackson agrees if the match is good, that will be a big help.

Newark, NJ, two days before Full Gear …

Tay Melo says she’s been in a bad mood because she has no match for Full Gear. She and Sammy do some shots, play some games and eat at what looks like a Dave & Buster’s. Guevara tells her couples in wrestling are rarely going to be at the same high level at the same time, and Melo reiterates that she wishes she had her own storyline too.

“I just need a direction now,” Melo says. “I feel I’m lost.”

Sammy says he’s trying to stay focused but he can’t help feel like Tay’s career going “on pause” is partially his fault. They agree that if nothing changes in the next few weeks, Melo should talk to Khan.

Baker says keeping her dentist job keeps her grounded, and that part of her can’t let it go. She shares some laughs with Tony Schiavone, telling him she feels pressure over her match with Saraya, and they discuss Khan’s ultimatum to Thunder Rosa and the status of the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Schiavone thinks Baker needs to get over Rosa, but Baker insists the women’s division is “stuck.”

Newark, NJ, day of Full Gear …

Jeff Jarrett and Claudio Castagnoli talk about how it’s a big day. The Jacksons talk about the buzz in the air and we see The Elite going over their entrance.

Baker has to do some media even though it’s a very busy day for her, and she says that just comes with the territory.

Four hours before the show, Guevara goes over his entrance gear with a costume designer, and mentions that if anything goes wrong in his match, he’ll get the blame.

Saraya is shown preparing for her in-ring return, with her brother, Zak Zodiac, there from the U.K. to help her train. Zak says he would have taken a month off work if needed to be there for her and to celebrate with her afterward.

Baker doesn’t want to be the one who sends Saraya back to the shelf, and Zak says he feels bad for Britt because that thought is going to linger in her subconscious.

The Jacksons talk over their nerves backstage. Matt says wrestling is still his dream, and he’s not done living it yet.

Showtime at Full Gear …

Guevara repeats how nervous he is, and Castagnoli notes that it’s really easy for Sammy to stick out one way or another with three veterans. Melo calms down her husband, then pumps him back up before he makes his entrance.

Melo continues to air her frustration and even rolls her eyes a bit at Saraya backstage. She looks visibly nervous, repeatedly, during Sammy’s match. Guevara is very red in the chest but says the match went great. Claudio reiterates that Sammy did really, really well, and Tay tells him the same thing.

The Elite make their return (to different music, since apparently they can’t use Kansas on All Access), and as we know, tear the house down against Death Triangle. The Jacksons are all smiles as they head backstage, and say it was a dream hearing the crowd reaction. Matt says this was the first time in a long time he was happy while wrestling.

Baker says one more time that she wants to ensure Saraya looks good and is safe. Zak is both excited and worried and feels his sister has to be thinking the same.

During the match, a spot is shown where Saraya is clutching her neck, and Zak’s reaction to a DDT on the floor is also very real. Khan looks more serious than normal watching backstage as well.

Saraya says she feels “f–king fantastic,” and Baker expresses how proud she is of her. Britt also says this might be the first time there were three women’s matches on an AEW PPV, and she says it’s the direction things need to keep going.

Guevara and Baker both say they want this to just be the next step in their legacies. The MJF rant from the media scrum is shown as well. As Khan said right afterward, “Alright.”
