The Masters Champions dinner mystery of what ‘Scottie-style’ cheeseburger sliders has been solved

Now we know what Scottie-style cheeseburger sliders means.

Scottie Scheffler’s Masters Champions dinner menu sounded awesome when it was revealed last month, with firecracker shrimp, tortilla soup and steak or redfish as the main course.

But there was one mystery that golf fans couldn’t get an answer to: Among the items were “Cheeseburger sliders, served Scottie-style.”

The heck did that mean?!

We have an answer, friends! The Masters’ Twitter account showed a video of the sliders being prepared, and it turns out Scheffler likes to have fries on top of his cheeseburgers, which isn’t a bad move at all.

Check it out, and yes, now I’m hungry watching this:

YUM.

Why that Masters group of holes is called ‘Amen Corner,’ explained

here’s the tale.

Editor’s Note: This story originally published April 7, 2022

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Watching the Masters and wondering why holes 11 through 13 are called “Amen Corner” and the origin story behind it? We’ve got you covered.

That’s right, Augusta National has so much history and traditions that we see year to year. And that includes calling the stretch of the course from holes No. 11 to 13 “Amen Corner.”

Where did that all come from? Here’s the story that’s been told countless times, but to me, it never gets old (probably because it’s connected to sports journalism!):

Ranking the 10 must-watch 2023 Masters groupings

Ranking the best groups to watch at The Masters by watchability.

There’s SO MUCH to take in with the 2023 Masters.

Will Tiger Woods contend? Will Rory McIlroy win his first green jacket and complete the career grand slam? How will LIV golfers fare against their PGA Tour counterparts?

But you can’t watch all of the contenders at the same time. There are so many groups that if you try to pick one trio to follow, it won’t be the most fun.

We’re here to help! We scanned through all the groups and came up with the top 10 ranked by watchability.

Let’s run through them (and yes, Tiger Woods is in one of them):

The Masters food prices are once again the best bargain in all of sports

So much good food for so little money.

If you’re a golf fan, I don’t need to remind you that the food prices at Augusta National for the Masters are incredible.

But: This needs to be repeated every single year. Because the prices almost always stay the same!

As far as food and beverage goes, you can’t get a better bargain anywhere else in sports.

Where else can you buy breakfast for a few bucks? Lunch for like $5 total? And beer for another $5?

Seriously. This never gets old. Check out the food prices as you enjoy Tiger Woods playing at Augusta National again, and dream of one of those pimento cheese sandwiches:

Tiger Woods admitted this could be his last Masters tournament and it’s heartbreaking to hear

It’s almost time for Tiger Woods to call it a career.

Nothing lasts forever, man. Especially not in sports. But, with that being said, it’s hard to picture the game of golf without including Tiger Woods in it.

That time is coming and it’s coming fast. At least, according to Woods himself.

In a press conference ahead of the 2023 Masters, Woods talked about where he was physically heading into the tournament. He was also asked whether he thinks about when each appearance could potentially be his last on the tour.

What followed that was an extremely open and honest admission from Woods — he knows his time in the golf world will be up soon. And he’s cherishing the moments and opportunities he has now more because of it.

Here’s what he had to say.

Here’s Tiger Woods’ scheduled 2023 Masters group and tee time for Rounds 1 and 2

Here’s when Tiger Woods will tee off at the 2023 Masters on Thursday.

Tiger Woods is back for another Masters, although in talking about his future at Augusta, it feels like the clock is ticking in terms of how many more times we’ll see him at the first major of the year in the future.

But let’s focus on the present. Tiger is back, and he’s playing starting Thursday.

Who is he playing with and at what time? Glad you asked. We have all the answers.

Woods will tee off with Xander Schuffele and Viktor Hovland with the 27th group that will start at 10:18 a.m. ET for Round 1 and 1:24 p.m. ET for Round 2. Of course we know everyone will be watching closely.

See the changes to No. 13 at Augusta National that will make the Masters hole harder

The new No. 13 looks gorgeous ahead of the 2023 Masters.

The Masters is known for having iconic hole after hole at Augusta National, with flowers associated with all 18.

But entering 2023, there were a couple of tweaks. And the hole that will looked the most different is No. 13 (that would be Azalea!).

The par-5 hole will now be 35 yards longer, which was done in order to prevent players from using their strength and technology to get within a wedge’s length on their second shots. The tee box also got raised up eight yards.

So what does it all look like now? Good question. Thanks to our friends at Golfweek, we have some great views of the progress that led up to the new version of the hole:

Why Masters winners and members get green jackets, explained

If you’re wondering about this, we have answers.

Editor’s note: This story was originally published April 10, 2022

Welcome to FTW Explains, a guide to catching up on and better understanding stuff going on in the world. Watching the Masters on Sunday and suddenly wondering why all the members and winners of the tournament at Augusta National wear those same green jackets and the origin story behind it? We’ve got you covered.

The green jacket might be one of the best trophies in all of sports, if you think about it that way. It’s wearable bragging rights, one that you can put on for anything from attending Wimbledon (hi, Sergio Garcia) to ordering Chick-fil-a (Patrick Reed).

But what’s the deal with green jackets? Let’s dive in:

Greg Norman said LIV Golfers would celebrate a Masters win on the 18th green. That’s news to Cam Smith.

LIV Golf is off to a great start at Masters Week

Two years into LIV Golf’s existence, the Saudi-backed league has featured a ton of tough talk and bravado from CEO Greg Norman and, well, not much else.

LIV finally got a television deal this year, and the ratings are absolutely awful. No one really cares about the league’s team concept. And, sure, the mega signing bonuses given out to the biggest names who defected to LIV were eye-popping, but it turns out players will reportedly be charged up to four times that initial payment if they even think about breaking their contract.

On Monday at Augusta National, Cameron Smith — the highest-rated player on the LIV Golf roster — even scrapped the very strict company talking points.

“I’ll be the first one to say, the fields aren’t as strong. I’m the first one to say that,” Smith said. “But we’ve still got a lot of guys that can play some really serious golf.”

That was far from the most revealing moment among Smith’s comments, however.

On Sunday, Norman continued to hype up LIV Golf by telling the The Daily Telegraph that the 18 LIV players at the 2023 Masters will storm the 18th green if one of them wins the tournament.

“They’ve said that if one of them wins then the other 17 will hang around and be there to congratulate him around the 18th green,” Norman said per Golfweek. “Could you imagine what a scene that would be, all these players hugging the winner.”

You know who couldn’t imagine it? Cameron Smith.

The LIV golfer with the best odds to win a green jacket this year has no clue what Norman is talking about.

“I definitely got left out on that one.” Smith said when asked about a celebration that would certainly break any number of Augusta’s (extremely strict) rules.

As if there wasn’t enough pressure on LIV Golf this week already, Norman keeps making the target bigger and bigger despite not even making it to Georgia for the tournament.

“Funnily enough, I haven’t been invited,” Norman told the Telegraph. “As a major winner I always was before, but they only sent me a grounds pass last year and nothing, zilch, this time around. I’m disappointed because it’s so petty but, of course, I’ll still be watching.”

You have to believe Norman here, unfortunately. No one knows more about petty than him.

Masters fans are freaking out about the weather forecast for Augusta

It looks like it’ll rain at Augusta a bunch this week.

The 2023 Masters might be a very wet event this year.

The Augusta weather forecast as of Monday, per Golfweek, calls for possible rain on ALL four days — Thursday has a small shot during the day, then increasing chances on Friday and Saturday before a 50 percent chance on Sunday. And that could also mean a lot of humidity.

Welp.

So, I guess if you’re attending, bring or purchase an umbrella. Hopefully it won’t delay any of the action from Augusta, but it should change up how golfers approach soaked greens.

Still, golf fans were worried and tweeted about it on Monday as Masters week 2023 began:
