Massachusetts at Coastal Carolina odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Massachusetts Minutemen at Coastal Carolina Chanticleers odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Massachusetts Minutemen (0-3) and the No. 17 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-0) meet Saturday at Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Massachusetts at Coastal Carolina odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Minutemen have struggled defensively, but at least they have picked up the pace on offense. UMass has allowed 42 or more points in each of its three losses with the Over going 3-0. However, the offense has scored 28 in each of the past two games, against Eastern Michigan and Boston College.

Last week, the Chanticleers passed their first true test of the season, a trip to Buffalo against a strong MAC team. But they have really been strongest at home, averaging 50.5 points per game in wins over Kansas and The Citadel, while covering each and hitting the Over in the two games.

Massachusetts at Coastal Carolina odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Coastal Carolina 52, Massachusetts 20

Money line

You can’t play Coastal Carolina (-10000) as a $100 wager nets you a profit of just $1. That’s ridiculous and a losing long-term betting strategy.

AVOID.

Against the spread

MASSACHUSETTS +36.5 (-112) has been terrible defensively. Coastal Carolina will score its fair share of points. However, the Minutemen have shown that they can at least move the ball when given their chance on offense. They’ll keep this one within 5 touchdowns.

We saw Coastal look mortal last week at Buffalo, and Kansas was able to score 15 points on the Chants in the first half before falling off in the final 30. Coastal is tremendous offensively, but questions still remain on defense.

Over/Under

OVER 65.5 (-115) is always the play in UMass games. The Minutemen are awful defensively but serviceable on offense. Look for QB Grayson McCall and Coastal to roll up the points in this final tune-up before getting into Sun Belt play.

Massachusetts at Liberty odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Massachusetts at Liberty sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Massachusetts Minutemen (0-3, Independent) visit the Liberty Flames (8-1, Indep.) Friday for a noon ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Massachusetts-Liberty college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Massachusetts at Liberty: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 1:50 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: No line posted as of this publishing
  • Against the spread/ATS: Massachusetts +37.5 (-110) | Liberty -37 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 56.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Massachusetts at Liberty: Three things to know

  1. The Minutemen were blanked offensively last week, notching just a safety in a 24-2 loss at FAU last Friday. UMass has scored 12 total points across three outings, and they have failed to score an offensive point in two of those contests. They allowed 92 total points in the first two games before yielding just the 24 last week, but that’s mostly a product of FAU’s struggling offense.
  2. The Flames were torching everyone offensively, posting 28 or more points in each of the first eight outings. That figured to continue last week against a leaky N.C. State defense, but Liberty went down in flames by a 15-14 score, suffering its first setback of the season. They still covered, running their cover streak to 6-0 ATS in the past six.
  3. The Flames rank 23rd in points scored per game, 37.6, while allowing 21.3 PPG to check in 23rd defensively. They are also seventh in the nation with just 172.9 passing yards per game allowed, and 37th with 136.6 rushing yards per contest. QB Malik Willis has passed for 1,817 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions while running for a team-best 744 yards and nine scores.

Massachusetts at Liberty: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Liberty 51, Massachusetts 10

Money line (ML)

There was no money line posted as of this publishing, probably because of the lopsided spread. It wouldn’t be worth pursuing, anyway.

Against the spread (ATS)

LIBERTY -37 (-110) will get on track against this struggling Massachusetts side, which is averaging just 4.0 PPG this season. Liberty has gone for 56 or more points in two of the past four outings, and they have covered six in a row. They’ll get back on track in a big way against a UMass side, which is an FBS football team in name only. They’re more like a mediocre FCS side.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 56.5 (-110) is the best play on the board in this game, and the Flames are more than capable of inching the total over the line even if the Minutemen cannot put any points on the board. Willis and company will be ornery after taking their first L in Raleigh last weekend.
