While Maryland has been terrible on the road this season (2-7), Ohio State has just been terrible everywhere.

The Buckeyes, who started the season ranked in the top 25, have fallen to 4-14 in conference and coach Chris Holtman has been under scrutiny of late amongst fans. Maryland will be attempting to win on the road after beating the Buckeyes at home 80-73 as 2-point favorites on Jan. 8.

Ohio State comes in after beating Illinois 72-60 for its only win in its last 10 games. The Buckeyes have lost 6 of their last 8 home games.

Maryland 75, Ohio State 67

Moneyline

PASS.

While Maryland -125 is not bad value, I do not see this game being close. Despite the spread being 1.5 points, I can see this game finishing closer to double-digits and I would rather take the ATS value than bet  on the ML.

Against the spread

MARYLAND -1.5 (-110).

Ohio State has been on a major slide. Just because it was able to pull off an improbable victory over Illinois Sunday, I do not think it is back on track. Maryland is fighting for its March seeding while Ohio State has nothing to play for.

Maryland -1.5 is the side to wager, and I would even consider taking an alternate line up to 8.

Over/Under

OVER 136.5 (-110).

Despite Maryland going Under in 9 of 10 road games, I still prefer the Over in this game.

The Terrapins have gone Over in 4 of their last 5 games and have also gone Over in 5 straight Wednesday games. Ohio State has gone Over in 4 of 5 games against a team with a winning record.

This will be a game in which Maryland controls the pace while Ohio State will do whatever it can to stay close. This will push the pace just enough to get this game to the Over 136.5 by the buzzer.

The Maryland Terrapins (11-11, 3-8 Big Ten) visit the No. 16 Ohio State Buckeyes (13-5, 6-3) Sunday at Value City Arena in Columbus. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (on CBS). Below, we look at the Maryland vs. Ohio State odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Terrapins had a near-miss against No. 13 Michigan State last time out, falling 65-63 Tuesday as 3.5-point underdogs, but it was a loss nonetheless. Maryland has dropped two straight games, and four out of the past six, while going just 4-5 against the spread (ATS) across the past nine games.

The Buckeyes came up short in a ranked battle at No. 3 Purdue Jan. 30, losing 81-78 but covering as 9.5-point underdogs. Ohio State ended up having the week off after Thursday’s home game vs. Iowa was postponed due to weather.

The Buckeyes have covered a season-high three consecutive games, while hitting the Over in four of the previous six outings.

Playing Ohio State (-475) is just too risky, costing 4.75 times your potential return. While the Buckeyes are a top-20 team and playing at home against a .500 team, there is just no reason to risk so much for so little.

Play MARYLAND +8.5 (-105) as the road underdog.

Sure, Ohio State has covered a season-high three straight outings. However, the Terps have covered three of their past four overall, and the Buckeyes tend to lose a little focus when playing some of the dregs of the league.

Ohio State tends to show up better when facing top competition but have lapses against the lesser teams. Maryland should be able to keep it within single digits.

The OVER 138.5 (-115) is the play here.

Maryland was undefeated until it was blown out 51-14 by Iowa last week. The Terrapins offense that had cranked out 6.9 yards per play was held to a 5.0-yard figure and turned the ball over seven times. Maryland allowed a below-average Iowa passing game to pile up 283 yards.

The Buckeyes dealt Rutgers a loss by a similar score a week ago as they were ultra-efficient in racking up a 52-13 victory against the Scarlet Knights. A high-octane Ohio State offense enters this game ranked eighth in the nation in passing (336.2 yards per game) and 23rd in rushing (219.4 yards per game).

Maryland is on the road for just a second time this fall. The Terps scored 10 late points to earn a 20-17 win at Illinois in their first road game Sept. 17. Maryland outgained the Illini 481 to 368 in total yards, despite that it converted just 2 of 10 third downs.

With some analytic fade of the Buckeyes (a bit of turnover luck so far), and some pull of gravity on the levels for both sides after last week, BACK THE TERRAPINS +20.5 (-108).

Over/Under

The Under is 5-0 in the Terrapins’ last five road games.

Look for Maryland to be within a couple of scores late. Close enough and late enough to get the Buckeyes in run-and-protect mode.
