Expect more frequent Marvel Snap updates to help balance the card game

More Marvel Snap updates are planned for the future, and with shorter intervals, to help address balance problems

More Marvel Snap updates are planned for the future, and with shorter intervals, to help address the mobile game‘s balance problems, developer Second Dinner announced in a new blog post. These updates will happen live each week and won’t require a download, and the development team will use them to buff cards in the Marvel game and make meaningful changes in between the larger, monthly updates.

“One of the things we’re wary of with balance patches is ‘how much change is too much?’ We’ve avoided changing more than a handful of cards at a time for a while now, and we think that’s a good thing because they’re easier to digest,” Second Dinner said in the blog post.

“Plus, pacing out these changes lets us lightly freshen the metagame periodically, rather than shake it all up at once and then watch things settle into a new state of stasis.”

These weekly updates will happen on Thursdays, which will reportedly help give the QA team time to work through everything before launching the changes,  and Second Dinner plans to target two to four cards with each.

Buffs are the primary intent – Second Dinner said they have a list of buffs to get through – though a small number of nerfs will go live through these updates to help keep the metagame balanced.

Fan hits Marvel Snap max collection level in a world first achievement

One fan reached beyond collection level 22,000 in Marvel Snap and set a record, but the achievement came at a steep cost

One fan hit the limit on Marvel Snap’s collection level just three months after the mobile game released, reaching 22,366. They posted about it in the game’s official Discord server (which wound up on Reddit), though only because the reward track ended. They wanted to know if the developers planned on adding more.

The Snap team called it a world first and said they do plan on adding more rewards – at a later date.

This fan’s achievement came at a price, though. Progression in Marvel Snap, like in most free-to-play games, is designed to encourage players to keep playing for long periods of time or to spend money. You can raise your collection level by upgrading cards with boosters and credits, items you normall get by playing but can also obtain in higher numbers by spending real-world cash.

They said they spent $5,000 on progression bundles from the in-game shop, and even that wasn’t enough to reach the max level. They also had to use a specific deck to win matches quickly and without actually having to be present.

The deck they used featured Agatha Harkness and was designed to remain in play almost constantly. The Agatha card’s unique ability lets the game’s AI take over after the card is played, so it finishes the match for you.

Uncle Ben is unintentionally the funniest Marvel Snap card

Marvel Snap does Uncle Ben dirty with his card in the brand new deck-building game.

Marvel Snap is a huge new card game from the minds behind Hearthstone that showcases a range of Marvel characters. Much like Capcom’s Teppen, Marvel Snap has been incredibly well received, and players have been enjoying collecting and battling with their cards.

But one particular card has a description and effect that has had players questioning things. That’s right, it’s the Uncle Ben card.

[mm-video type=video id=01g3efpt0pkmja0f9ary playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g3efpt0pkmja0f9ary/01g3efpt0pkmja0f9ary-8137427ab46decd91e9d5fcf97ca4d93.jpg]

For anyone that isn’t a Spider-Man fan, Uncle Ben is Peter Parker’s uncle, whose death acts as a catalyst for Peter becoming a hero. Ben passed on the line “With great power comes great responsibility,” and it’s this mantra that inspires the Spider-Man we know and love today.

As an essential character to the Spider-Man universe, it’s only natural that Uncle Ben gets his own card. But nobody expected the effect it has.

Uncle Ben’s card reads as follows: “When this card is destroyed, add Spider-Man to your hand.”

So, yes, canonically, it is Uncle Ben’s death that inspires the heroic rise of Spider-Man, and therefore this description makes perfect sense, but with that context in mind, the card seems either a little insensitive or absolutely hilarious, depending on your sensibilities.

Needless to say, if you’re using a deck that utilizes Spider-Man heavily, an Uncle Ben card or two will help your deck become powerful.

Marvel Snap has seen huge success since launch, and players have been adoring the simple yet engaging battle system. It takes obvious cues from Hearthstone, but in this early state it’s much easier to build a competitive deck and play online than it is in Hearthstone.

If you want to start playing Marvel Snap, we recommend starting out with one of our Marvel Snap beginner decks.

Best Marvel Snap decks for beginners

Marvel Snap decks are pretty small in comparison to most card games, but there’s still a lot of potential for unique strategies.

Marvel Snap is a new card game from Second Dinner, a team full of Blizzard alumni, several of whom worked on Hearthstone. This card game is a lot faster than Heartstone, with players taking their turns simultaneously, and battles lasting just six turns. In it, you play various Marvel superheroes to try and have the highest power value in two out of the three locations on the board by the end of turn 6.

There are energy costs to worry about, and the majority of heroes have special abilities which interlock in interesting ways. While the game has only just launched, those in the community who have had access to the closed beta have established a little bit of a meta prior to launch. Those people have gathered on sites like Marvel Snap Zone to put together some archetypical decks that beginners can try their hand at.

We’ve picked out some of the best decks available right now so you can go into this new game with a strong plan and start racking up wins straight away.

Marvel Snap release time and how to pre-register

Marvel Snap, a fast-paced digital card game, is launching tomorrow. We’ll tell you exactly when and how to get some early rewards.

Marvel Snap is a highly-anticipated card game made by Second Dinner, a team made up of former Blizzard staff. Most notable among the team is founder Ben Brode, who is the former game director of Heartstone. The game certainly has the pedigree behind it, and it’s finally time to see if they deliver on what’s promised, as it launches tomorrow.

This card battler is going to be much more fast-paced than Hearthstone, with matches taking roughly three minutes. Players will be able to play cards simultaneously, rather than taking turns, making for an interesting take on the genre that favors speed over hard-thought strategy. Plus, it features Marvel characters from all over the multiverse.

We’ll let you know exactly when you can get playing on iOS, Android, and PC via Steam.

New card battler Marvel Snap coming from ex-Blizzard alums at Second Dinner

After a day of teases and a year of knowing what was coming, Marvel and Second Dinner have finally announced their card battler project, Marvel Snap.

After a day of teases and a year of knowing what was coming, Marvel and Second Dinner have finally announced their card battler project, Marvel Snap. It’s a fast-paced, high-skill game with unique mechanics surrounding both the moment to moment gameplay and the metalayer. It pulls from the entire Marvel multiverse to give you endless versions of cards to play with, and the titular Snap mechanic lets you gamble your ranking points in each match.

Three minutes per game and a mobile-first development strategy means it’s as slick as possible. Every card is earnable in-game for free, and monetization mostly comes down to different versions and looks for cards. As you play cards they level up, gaining ever-more-impressive visual affects – frame popping, 3D elements, shiny logos, the works. Here’s the trailer.

Everyone urges you to head to MarvelSnap.com to sign up for an Android-devices beta. The game will be on all the various mobile platforms, plus PC, on launch. No word yet on when exactly that will be, but given how long this thing has been worked on, it can’t be too far off if they’re now announcing.

We’ve got a big preview and interview with Second Dinner co-founder and ex-Hearthstone game director Ben Brode about what makes Marvel Snap special, if you’d like to read more.
