Noco 400: What you need to know

  • Stewart-Haas Racing’s Ryan Preece posted a best speed of 94.780 mph to earn his 1st-career NASCAR Cup Series poll.
  • TrackHouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez was right on the heels of Preece, posting a qualifying speed of 94.298 mph, and he goes off on the outside of Row 1.
  • Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron won the race last spring at Martinsville, while Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell won the fall race.
  • Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney has never won at Martinsville, but he leads all active drivers with a 9.7 Average-Finish Position (AFP) in 14 career Cup starts. Unfortunately, he goes off from 31st Sunday.
  • JGR’s Denny Hamlin leads all active drivers with 5 career Cup wins at Martinsville, while posting a 10.5 AFP with 2,190 laps led.
  • SHR’s Aric Almirola and Chase Briscoe will start on Row 2 behind their teammate Preece.
  • TrackHouse’s Ross Chastain had an awful time in qualifying, and he will go off 34th after a best speed of just 91.838 mph.
  • Hendrick’s Chase Elliott (leg) returns after a 6-week absence due to a fractured leg and will makes his 1st start since the race at Auto Club Speedway on Feb. 26.

Noco 400 – Expert pick

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:18 a.m. ET.

The Virginia native DENNY HAMLIN (+900) is a solid bet. He leads all active drivers with 5 Cup wins at the short track, and he has led 2,190 laps while posting a 10.5 AFP. Half of his Cup starts have resulted in finished of 5th or better, too, while 23 of his 34 Cup starts have been top-10 runs, which is roughly two-thirds (67.6%) of his all-time starts at the track.

Noco 400 – Long shot

I picked DANIEL SUAREZ (+1800) last week on the dirt at Bristol, and it didn’t come into fruition. The TrackHouse Racing driver is worth a roll of the dice again this week, however. He was solid in qualifying, and goes off 2nd in Sunday’s starting grid.

Suarez has long odds for good reason, despite his favorable starting spot. In 12 career Cup starts, he has finished 10th or better just twice, and he has never led a lap, while posting a dismal 22.5 AFP. Too bad you couldn’t hit this earlier in the week, as Suarez opened up at +5500.

Noco 400 prop picks

RYAN PREECE – TOP-5 FINISH (+180)

Odds from Caesars sportsbook.

Preece starts on the pole, and Stewart-Haas Racing has 3 drivers in the 1st 2 rows this weekend, so this team has the right setup for “The Paperclip.”

Preece has always struggled at this track, posting just 3 top-20 finishes in 7 career Cup starts, while posting an awful 27.7 AFP with 2 DNFs. But this is his best machinery yet, and like Suarez above, Preece is worth a roll of the dice based on his ultra-favorable starting position and tremendous qualifying effort. Just proceed with caution.

2022 Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s 2022Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400, with NASCAR odds, picks and predictions.

The NASCAR Cup Series moves to Martinsville Speedway for Saturday’s 2022 Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400. The green flag is set to drop a little after 7:30 p.m. ET (FOX Sports 1). Below we analyze the 2022 Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 odds and lines, with NASCAR picks and predictions.

Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott led Friday’s qualifying session to win the pole for Saturday’s Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 in Martinsville. He also led the practice session on Friday, too.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola and Cole Custer were second and third in the practice in qualifying, respectively. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell was the top Toyota in qualifying, and he’ll go off seventh.

JGR’s Denny Hamlin, the winner of last weekend’s race in Richmond, struggled in qualifying, posting a speed of 94.289 mph. He’ll start 25th.

2022 Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400: What you need to know

  • Hamlin struggled in qualifying, but he heads into Saturday’s race with a 10.2 Average-Finish Position (AFP) to lead all active drivers. He also leads all drivers with five wins in 32 Cup starts at Martinsville, with half of his starts resulting in a finish of fifth or better.
  • Brad Keselowski is right on Hamlin’s heels with a 10.8 AFP in 24 career Cup starts at Martinsville, posting two wins and 12 Top 5 finishes with 891 laps led.
  • Penske Racing’s Ryan Blaney has never won at Martinsville, but he has a runner-up finish. In 12 career Cup starts there he has a 10.8 AFP to rank third among all drivers, and 11 of his 12 starts have been 20th or better.

Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 – Expert picks

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:20 a.m. ET.

Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott is the chalk at +450. He was super impressive while leading Friday’s practice session and qualifying session, and he’s a great play for a chance to more than quadruple up.

Elliott already has one win in 13 career Cup starts at Martinsville, posting five finishes in the Top 5 and seven finishes in the Top 10 with 718 laps led.

Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 picks – Long shot

ARIC ALMIROLA (+2000) was so-so in Friday’s practice session, posting a 94.092 mph to rank 12th. He was more impressive in qualifying, rolling to 95.641 mph to end up right on the heels of Elliott. As such, he will start on the outside of Row 1.

Almirola has really improved on short tracks at Bristol and Richmond, but he has struggled over the years at Martinsville. In 26 career Cup starts he has just one finish in the Top 5, and six finishes in the Top 10. However, he looked good Friday, and a $5 wager pays $100. Why not take a chance?

Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 400 prop picks

While a Chevrolet (+115) is on the pole thanks to Hendrick’s Elliott, watch out for FORD (+250) in Martinsville. Ford drivers qualified second, third, fourth and sixth for Saturday’s race, and that’s the best bet for a manufacturer win.

Take a shot on STEWART-HAAS RACING (+750) for the team race winner bet. Almirola, Custer and Kevin Harvick will each start inside the Top 6 drivers. Five of the past six winners at Martinsville have started eighth or higher.

COLE CUSTER TOP 10 FINISH (+260) is worth a roll of the dice. He goes off third. While he has a 20.8 AFP in four career Cup starts at the paper clip, he looked very good in practice and qualifying.

2021 Xfinity 500 odds, picks and prediction

Looking at the odds for Sunday’s 2021 Xfinity 500, with NASCAR odds, picks and predictions.

The NASCAR Cup Series heads to the Martinsville Speedway Sunday for the Xfinity 500. The green flag is set to drop at approximately 2:05 p.m. ET. Below we analyze the 2021 Xfinity 500 odds and lines, with NASCAR picks and predictions.

This is the final race before the NASCAR Cup Series field of eight drivers is whittled down to four for the championship race next weekend in Phoenix.

2021 Xfinity 500: What you need to know

  • Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. picked up the win in the first race at Martinsville April 11, averaging 67.316 mph in a race with 18 lead changes. That was the slowest average speed at Martinsville since Oct. 24, 2004. MTJ has won three of the last four at the track, too.
  • Toyota has won three of the last four races at Martinsville and five of the last 11. Chevrolet has two wins during the span, with Ford claiming checkers in four of those starts since April 2016.
  • JGR’s Denny Hamlin leads all active drivers with five checkered flags at Martinsville, and he has 16 top-5 finishes with a 9.71 Average-Finish Position (AFP).
  • Penske’s Brad Keselowski has an 11.7 AFP in 23 career Cup starts at Martinsville and finished 10th or better in 16 of those races.
  • Kyle Larson has won three consecutive starts in the playoffs, and has secured his spot in the final four in Phoenix next week. Larson has no wins and just two top-5 finishes in 13 Cup starts at Martinsville.

Who is going to win the 2021 Xfinity 500?

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:30 a.m. ET.

KYLE LARSON (+500) has some rather high odds despite posting three straight Cup starts at Charlotte, Texas and Kansas. While we noted his struggles at Martinsville above, it should be noted he also struggled mightily in Kansas and that didn’t preclude him from winning. He is just so red-hot right now that you can’t bet against him.

If someone is going to derail his chances, it’s likely going to be TRUEX JR. (+450), the chalk this week. He has three victories in his last four starts at the Virginia paper clip. In 31 career Cup starts he has eight top-5 runs and 14 top-10 showings with 1,007 laps.

Virginia native HAMLIN (+600) is also a strong play. He leads all drivers with a 9.71 AFP, and 16 top-5 finishes with 1,884 laps led in his 31 Cup starts.

Long-shot bets for the 2021 Xfinity 500

If you’re looking for a good long-shot bet, veteran driver KURT BUSCH (+4000) could crash the party in Martinsville. He has a pair of victories with nine top-10 showings and 487 laps led in 42 career Cup starts, although his 19.8 AFP isn’t great.

CHRISTOPHER BELL (+2000) is also worth a small-unit play. He has just three Cup starts under his belt at Martinsville, finishing seventh, 15th and 28th, posting a 16.67 AFP to rank 11th among all active drivers.

Xfinity 500 at Martinsville odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway sports betting odds and lines, with NASCAR analysis and prediction.

The NASCAR Cup Series heads back to Martinsville Speedway Sunday at 2 p.m. ET for the Xfinity 500. Below, we analyze the Xfinity 500 odds and betting lines, with NASCAR picks and tips with odds from BetMGM sportsbook.

Xfinity 500: What you need to know

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 8:30 a.m. ET.

The Cup Series continues its playoffs with the Virginia race. Penske Racing driver Brad Keselowski (+550 for Sunday’s 500) is on the Busch pole. He was third in the spring race, and has finished 10th or better in nine straight Martinsville Cup starts, including eight finishes of fifth or better.

  • Keselowski has won just twice in 21 Cup starts at “The Big Paperclip,” but he has 10 top-5 showings and 15 top-10 results with 888 laps led and a 10.48 Average-Finish Position (AFP), third-best among all active drivers.
  • Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. posted a win in the spring race at Martinsville, and he has back-to-back victories at the track while rattling off finishes of fourth or better in five of his past six at the short track.
  • Penske’s Ryan Blaney was the runner-up in the first run this season at the venerable Virginia track. He has three consecutive top-5 finishes in the Cup Series at Martinsville.
  • Starting spot matters at Martinsville, as the past three winners have started fifth or better, and nine of the past 10 drivers to claim checkers have started 10th or higher.

Who is going to win the Xfinity 500?

TRUEX JR. (+350) is the chalk, and rightly so, as he has back-to-back victories at this track. He is also hungry for a win after getting edged out by teammate Kyle Busch at Texas on Wednesday. MTJ needs a victory to punch his ticket into the final four for a possible championship. He needs a third-consecutive checkered flag, which is difficult at any track, but anything less will not do. Truex goes off second on Sunday.

MTJ has the two straight wins, but there is still risk, as he has only seven top-5 finishes and 13 top-10 runs in 29 career Cup starts at Martinsville, posting a rather pedestrian 16.83 AFP.

JGR’s DENNY HAMLIN (+550) is the last driver to come away with at least three consecutive wins at Martinsville. The Virginia native is tied with Keselowski for the second-shortest odds on the board. Hamlin ran into trouble in the Blue Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500, the last start at Martinsville, but he had three straight top-5 finishes at the track before that. He is also second among active drivers with five grandfather clocks in the shop – Martinsville awards a grandfather clock to the winner of this race. Hamlin is set to start fourth on Sunday.

Hendrick’s ALEX BOWMAN (+2000), who starts third in the grid, has some longer odds, but is worth a small-unit play. He has had mixed results in his previous five Cup starts at the track, but he was a solid sixth in the spring race.

Xfinity 500 long-shot bet

It’s now or never for Hendrick Motorsports driver JIMMIE JOHNSON (+3500), who wraps up his stellar career in two weeks. He hasn’t won in an eternity, and it would be a storybook finish to grab checkers at Martinsville. He has done it nine times before, and he was a respectable 10th in the spring run. Johnson will have his work cut out, however, as he starts 27th.

Don’t forget about CLINT BOWYER (+3500), either. He is also calling it a career, and he could make noise at Martinsville for one last hurrah. Bowyer won the spring 2018 installment at Martinsville, a race run on a Monday because of a postponement due to snow. Four of his past seven runs have been good for seventh place or better at this place. Bowyer goes off 16th.
