Martin Truex Jr. drops bombshell news on plans for the 2025 Daytona 500

Martin Truex Jr. has dropped bombshell news on his plans for the 2025 Daytona 500. What did Truex reveal about his plans for Daytona?

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr[/autotag]. has completed his journey as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series competitor, but his story as a race car driver is still ongoing. Truex plans to return to the race track for more Cup and Xfinity Series races in 2025 but doesn’t know the specifics outside of the Daytona 500. However, one part of his plans for the 2025 Daytona 500 has changed.

Ahead of NASCAR’s banquet in Charlotte, North Carolina, Truex was asked by TSJSports’s Peter Stratta if his Daytona 500 entry will still be with 23XI Racing. Then, the former Joe Gibbs Racing driver dropped a bombshell.

“No, it’s not,” Truex said. “I’m not sure what [23XI Racing] is doing, honestly. I was told [Joe Gibbs Racing] is doing it somehow, so we’ll see.”

This is massive news for Truex, who was originally going to drive an open entry for 23XI Racing at the 2025 Daytona 500. It’s unclear who he will drive for in February 2025, but it won’t be with 23XI Racing, as they continue their lawsuit against NASCAR. For now, Truex will get some help from Joe Gibbs Racing as they figure out what to do about his Daytona 500 entry.

Martin Truex Jr.’s comments after last full-time NASCAR race in 2024

Martin Truex Jr. comments after his last full-time NASCAR Cup Series race in 2024. Check out what Truex had to say at Phoenix!

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag]’s full-time NASCAR Cup Series career is officially over. On Sunday evening, Truex took the checkered flag as a full-time competitor for the last time at Phoenix Raceway, finishing in 17th place after winning the pole. It was a disappointing finish for the 2017 Cup Series champion, who ended his farewell season without a victory.

Following his last full-time NASCAR event at Phoenix, Truex climbed out of his No. 19 car with several people, such as Jeff Gordon and Michael Jordan, congratulating him. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver talked about his final full-time race and what’s to come in the future.

“Oh man. I wanted it to go better than that,” Truex said. “We were pretty good early and then lost track position and then the track just continued to rubber up and get hotter. At least that’s what I felt like it was doing. I kept losing the grip. I kept losing more balance. I just losing track position. It just all magnifies with this thing. We got caught by the caution there and had to stay out on old tires and get the wave around and we couldn’t even race to try to go forward. It was just not a good day. Not a good day to end on. I’m proud of the effort of my team. At least we got to lead a few laps at the beginning.”

“Yeah, it means a lot to have the respect of guys [like Jeff Gordon and Michael Jordan] and what they mean to the sport. Absolute legends, right? It makes me feel good that I’ve earned that respect over the years, and it means a lot. From here forward, I’m just going to go have some fun and do a little bit of racing here and there just for fun. Hopefully, it will be less stressful than days like today.”

This isn’t Truex’s “goodbye” moment from NASCAR, but it does mark the end of an era. The driver of the No. 19 car for Joe Gibbs Racing’s career has been a rollercoaster, but he will step away from full-time racing as a Cup Series champion. Truex will still race in 2025, but it won’t be the same without his presence in the garage every weekend.

Martin Truex Jr. set for final NASCAR Cup race as full-time driver in 2024

Martin Truex Jr. is set for his final NASCAR Cup Series race as a full-time driver in 2024. When will Truex return to NASCAR in 2025?

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag]’s full-time NASCAR Cup Series career is one race way from being over. On Sunday afternoon at Phoenix Raceway, Truex will say goodbye to Joe Gibbs Racing as he leaves NASCAR as a full-time competitor. The driver of the No. 19 car won’t be able to compete for a second Cup Series championship, but he will be celebrated either way.

Truex has spent 21 years in the Cup Series dating back to the 2004 season and has won 34 races and one Cup Series championship with Furniture Row Racing in 2017. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver hasn’t won a race in his farewell season, but could Phoenix change that? Based on Truex’s performances in the playoffs, it doesn’t seem likely, but it shouldn’t be ruled out.

The NASCAR garage won’t be the same with Truex leaving as a full-time driver, but it doesn’t mean he will be gone for good. The 2017 Cup Series champion is expected to compete with 23XI Racing in the 2025 Daytona 500 and will have a part-time NASCAR schedule. This isn’t a firm goodbye for Truex, but it marks the end of a 21-year era for one of the sport’s best drivers.

Martin Truex Jr. to run a special throwback paint scheme at Homestead in 2024

Martin Truex Jr. will run a special throwback paint scheme honoring his 2017 NASCAR Cup Series championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag] only has four races left in his full-time NASCAR Cup Series career, and one of his biggest moments will be honored this weekend. On Tuesday morning, Joe Gibbs Racing revealed that Truex will run a special throwback paint scheme honoring his 2017 Cup Series championship at Homesatead-Miami Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

Truex took the No. 78 car for Furniture Row Racing and brought it to victory lane in the Championship 4 event at Homestead in 2017, earning his first Cup Series title. While the driver of the No. 19 car is no longer in contention to win the 2024 Cup Series championship, this will be a special moment as he honors the most significant moment of his NASCAR career.

https://twitter.com/JoeGibbsRacing/status/1848741184350416935

With four races left, Truex is looking to enter victory lane one more time in his farewell NASCAR season. Truex will return to the Cup Series in 2025, but it won’t be for many races as he focuses on a limited schedule. For now, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver will enjoy the last four races of the 2024 season and hope that his throwback paint scheme brings back the success of 2017 this weekend.

Martin Truex Jr. expresses frustration after race at Watkins Glen in 2024

Martin Truex Jr. expresses frustration after his up-and-down race at Watkins Glen International in September 2024.

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag] started in second place at Watkins Glen International and was in line for a big points day. However, Truex found himself back in traffic, and it was hard to regain track position. The No. 19 car wasn’t as fast after Stage 1 and then was involved in a late-race caution. Truex clawed across the finish line in 20th place after expecting much better.

Now, Truex is 14 points below the playoff cut-line, and the road ahead looks difficult. Following the event, Truex talked about his day at Watkins Glen and expressed significant frustration with how the race evolved at the end.

“You get green-white-checkered at the end of the race, and you know people are just going to drive through someone,” Truex said. “We were in the wrong lane, on the short end of the stick as usual. We were in a decent spot there with our Camry, and you go through the esses, and they just plow through you and put you in the marbles. This racing is just ridiculous.”

“Just crazy that all these races always come down to this. I just don’t really understand how guys can call themselves the best in the world when they just drive through everyone on restarts at the end of these races. It’s very frustrating, but it is what it is these days. I’m out of here.”

Truex sits 15th in the point standings, and the competitors around him are really good at Bristol Motor Speedway. It has been a miserable 16-race stretch for Truex, who has two top-10 finishes and five top-20 finishes over those events. The driver of the No. 19 car needs some magic at Bristol if he wants to push for a championship in his final full-time season.

Martin Truex Jr. to drive the No. 56 or No. 78 car in 2025 Daytona 500

Martin Truex Jr. is set to drive the No. 56 or No. 78 car in the 2025 Daytona 500 with a special surprise at crew chief. Find out the latest!

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag] will step away from full-time competition in the NASCAR Cup Series at the conclusion of the 2024 season, but it doesn’t mean he will be gone from the sport. Truex will stick around and run several races in 2025. One of those races will likely be the 2025 Daytona 500, and Truex already knows which car number he’ll drive in the big event next year.

“Yeah, it’s either going to be the No. 56 or No. 78,” Truex said at playoff media day.”The No. 78 being our championship number, which is a special one. And the No. 56 was always my number, so we’ll see.”

Truex said he will run the 2025 Daytona 500 and while he doesn’t know the exact details, he says the deal is “all but done.” 23XI Racing has been the most likely landing spot for Truex, and it could include a familiar face. According to Truex, his former crew chief, Cole Pearn, has said he would be on top of the box during his effort.

It will be disappointing to see Truex leave NASCAR as a full-time driver, but there is much to be excited about moving forward. There will be plenty of opportunities for Truex, and driving one of his old car numbers with his former crew chief will be special. The 2025 Daytona 500 will be exciting, and Truex will likely be there with a familiar face alongside him.

Great American Getaway 400 – Expert pick

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:36 a.m. ET.

MARTIN TRUEX JR. (+600) is worth a look in Sunday’s race. JGR has had tremendous luck over the years at Pocono Raceway, and MTJ is a good bet to finish in the top spot.

The New Jersey native is making his final Pocono start, at least as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver. He has made 34 Cup starts in his career at the Tricky Triangle, finishing with 2 wins, 7 top-5 runs and 15 top-10 results, while leading the pack for 257 laps with 2 DNFs and an 89.2 Driver Rating.

Great American Getaway 400 – Contender

RCR’s KYLE BUSCH (+4000) is too tempting to pass up at this price. A simple $10 wager nets a profit of $400.

While things certainly haven’t been going in Rowdy’s favor this season, he has a long and successful history at Pocono. In 36 career Cup starts, Busch has 4 wins, 11 top-5 finishes and 18 top-10 results with 585 laps led and an impressive 97.3 Driver Rating Average.

Great American Getaway 400 – Prop Bet

KYLE BUSCH — TOP-10 FINISH (+135) is worth a look at plus-money. Again, exactly half of his 36 career Cup starts at Pocono have resulted in a finish of 10th or better.

Martin Truex Jr. provides big update on running the 2025 Daytona 500

Martin Truex Jr. provides a big update on running the 2025 Daytona 500. Check out what Truex had to say about the possibility in 2025!

[autotag]Martin Truex Jr.[/autotag] will retire from full-time racing in the NASCAR Cup Series at the conclusion of the 2024 season. While it will be different without Truex competing for the Cup Series championship, it doesn’t mean he will be entirely out of NASCAR. In fact, Truex’s teammate Denny Hamlin offered to enter another 23XI Racing entry for him throughout the year.

Truex jumped on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s podcast, The Dale Jr. Download, and talked about his plans for the 2025 NASCAR season. Based on his response, it seems likely that he will aim for his first Daytona 500 victory in 2025.

“I’ll probably run the Daytona 500,” Truex said. “Not a done deal yet, but I feel like it shouldn’t be too hard to finish that up.”

Hamlin already offered for Truex to run a 23XI Racing entry for the Daytona 500, which seems to be the likely outcome in this scenario. Truex could stick with Toyota and drive for his teammate in a competitive entry. There may not be a championship for Truex to chase in 2025 and beyond, but that competitive side in NASCAR will not disappear yet.
