The long awaited Mike Tyson biopic starring Jamie Foxx is a step closer after it was announced that Training Day and Southpaw director, Antoine Fuqua, will oversee directorial duties for the limited series.

Tyson’s story will also benefit from the input of Martin Scorcese, who will serve as executive producer for the tale of one of boxing’s most polarizing characters.

The project will be a TV miniseries, not a film made for theaters.

Tyson’s journey from street thug to heavyweight boxing’s youngest-ever world champion is a remarkable one and every step of his dramatic rise and fall will be covered under the studious eyes of Fuqua, Scorcese, Foxx, and Tyson himself.

“I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time,” Tyson said in a formal statement. “With the recent launch of Only Legends League and the excitement from fans following my return to the ring, now feels like the perfect moment.

“I look forward to collaborating with Martin, Antoine, Jamie and the entire creative team to bring audiences a series that not only captures my professional and personal journey but also inspires and entertains.”

The series, which will be titled “Tyson,” has already had its pilot episode written and discussions are currently ongoing to which network will carry the show.
