Chiefs to sign former Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling

The #Chiefs are signing former #Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a three-year deal per report.

The Kansas City Chiefs have worked fast to add to the receiver position following the departure of Tyreek Hill.

After taking a visit with the team, the Chiefs are set to sign former Green Bay Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. It’ll be a three-year deal for Scantling, with a max value of $36 million.

A former fifth-round draft pick out of the University of South Florida, Valdes-Scantling has been one of the top deep threats for Green Bay for the past four seasons. The 27-year-old wideout boasts a 6-4 and 205-pound frame with 4.3 speed. He has appeared in 59 career games with the Packers with 39 career starts, boasting 123 catches for over 2,000 yards and 13 scores in four seasons.

Look for Valdes-Scantling to be part of the village that it will take to replace the production lost with Tyreek Hill heading to the Dolphins. He’s an adequate deep threat, but he’s never had a single season exceeding 700 yards receiving. He certainly gives the team a nice boost as they head into the 2022 NFL draft, also likely looking to add to their receiver position. Right now, Valdes-Scantling is the only receiver the Chiefs have under contract beyond the 2022 NFL season.

Chiefs to host Packers WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling on visit

A potential (and partial) replacement for #Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill is already en route to Kansas City for a visit per a new report.

The Kansas City Chiefs and WR Tyreek Hill seem to be heading for a split.

News broke earlier that the Chiefs had given Hill permission to seek a trade and that two teams (the Dolphins and Jets) have been actively engaged in talks to acquire him. It seems like it’ll only be a matter of time before Kansas City trades Hill at this point.

Knowing that they’ll need to continue to add firepower on offense, the Chiefs are hosting Packers free agent receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Obviously, both players have their differences, namely in size, but they both have speed to burn. Valdes-Scantling ran a 4.37s 40-yard dash at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine.

No deal to sign Valdes-Scantling imminent per Pelissero, but if a trade sending Hill to another team does come to fruition, it’d make a ton of sense for them to add another young receiver at the position. Scantling is just 27 years old and has some of his best football ahead of him after posting 59 catches for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns in the last two seasons with Green Bay.

Kansas City is going to have a lot of work to do to replace one of their best offensive weapons and Valdes-Scantling would be a good start.
