Marlins at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Jose Urena vs. RHP Clarke Schmidt

Prediction

Marlins 6, Yankees 5

Money line (ML)

Both teams have secured a playoff spot, but they each have a lot to gain – or lose – in regard to seeding. The Yankees (-176) are going with an opener and then a bullpen day in order to keep their postseason rotation set up.

The MARLINS (+155) can be given the edge as plus-money underdogs with Urena able to go deeper into the game. He can draw from that positive outing Sunday.

The teams split the first two games of the series, with the Marlins winning 4-3 Friday and the Yankees winning 11-4 Saturday. Take the MARLINS (+155) to win the regular-season finale, as the Yankees are likely to be more focused on a playoff run.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The safer play is to take the MARLINS +1.5 (-134) with one run of insurance in the event of a loss. There’s still adequate value on the run line due to the lopsided matchup on paper and with the Yankees being a much more popular public play.

The Yankees had lost five of six games before Saturday’s win.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 9.5 (-110) in an uninspiring pitching matchup and with both bullpens ranked in the bottom half of the league by ERA.

Both managers are likely to allow their starters or first relievers to take the damage of multiple runs in order to preserve as much of the bullpen as possible for the playoffs.

Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Miami Marlins at New York Yankees sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Yankees (32-26) and Miami Marlins (30-28) finish their regular-season schedules with a three-game weekend series at Yankee Stadium. First pitch in the second game is slated for 1:05 p.m. ET on Saturday. Below, we analyze the Marlins-Yankees betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Marlins at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Trevor Rogers vs. RHP Deivi Garcia

Rogers owns a 6.84 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through six starts. The 22-year-old left-hander has struck out 12.6 batters per nine, but he has battled control (4.2 BB/9) problems and gopher-itis.

  • Has been hit hard in two of his last three starts (aggregate 10 IP, 14 ER).
  • In those starts and throughout his first six MLB starts, Rogers has been undone by a .385 BABIP, a 65% LOB rate, and a 22.7% HR/FB mark. Analytics ERA measurements peg his average in the high 3s.

Garcia owns a 4.88 ERA and 1.19 WHIP through 5 GS.

  • Was rocked in his last outing (Sept. 20 at Boston): 3 IP, 6 ER on nine base runners.

Money line (ML)

The Yankees (-200) are back to putting a healthy lineup on the field after enduring major health issues throughout August and early September. While New York did rattle off 10 straight wins in mid-September, the “fully operational Death Star” has had plenty of missteps as well. The Yanks went into that 10-game streak after four straight losses, and heading into Saturday’s matinee, New York has lost five of its last six. Three of those losses were by six runs or more.

The Yanks are a below-average group against lefty pitching (.715 OPS) and are prone to struggles against hurlers they haven’t seen before. The tag is MARLINS +175. Hold out for +185 and take the visitors at too good a price to ignore.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Miami is 31-16 ATS as an underdog this season. But pass on the MARLINS +1.5 (-121) unless you can wait out a tag closer to -110.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 9.5 (-110). Leverage what figures as a humid day game at Yankee Stadium, along with starters prone to the long ball and a bad Miami bullpen. Rest-day lineup maneuvers don’t figure to play into a game both teams need in their respective pursuits of optimal postseason positioning.

Miami Marlins at New York Yankees odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Miami Marlins at New York Yankees sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Yankees (32-25, 2nd in AL East) and Miami Marlins (29-28, 2nd in NL East) finish their regular-season schedules with a three-game weekend series at Yankee Stadium. First pitch of Friday’s series opener will be thrown at 7:05 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Marlins-Yankees betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

The Yankees are safely in the AL playoffs. The Marlins are currently sixth in the NL picture but have a wave of teams to hold off this weekend.

Marlins at Yankees: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Sandy Alcantara vs. LHP J.A. Happ

Alcantara: 3-2, 6 starts, 3.12 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 3.4 BB/9, 34 2/3 IP

  • Strikeout rate is up and walk rate is down in contributing to a career-best ERA and WHIP. He’s also received considerably more run support after having a league-high 14 losses with an ERA of 3.88 last season.
  • Pitched 6 innings of one-run ball against the Washington Nationals his last time out (Sept. 20).

Happ: 2-2, 8 starts, 3.25 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 7.9 K/9, 2.6 BB/9, 44 1/3 IP

  • Allowing 2 fewer hits per nine than he did in 2019.
  • Threw 8 scoreless innings in a win over the Boston Red Sox Sept. 19. Recorded nine strikeouts with no walks.
  • Has a 1.00 ERA through 3 starts and 18 innings in his home park this season.

Prediction

Marlins 6, Yankees 4

Money line (ML)

Back the MARLINS (+175) at a great price with Alcantara on the hill and Miami continuing to push for an unexpected playoff berth. The Yankees (-200) have their spot locked up, and Happ shouldn’t be expected to pitch too deep into the game while getting ready for a spot in the playoff rotation.

The Yankees have dropped four of their last five games, including their last two games against the Toronto Blue Jays by a total of 18-2. The Marlins snapped a four-game losing skid with a 4-2 win over the Atlanta Braves Thursday.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Take the insurance with Miami and back the MARLINS +1.5 (-121) to either win outright or lose by just a single run. Miami is 30-16 ATS as an underdog this season. New York is a more modest 25-23 ATS as the favorite.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 9.5 (-110). The Marlins rank seventh in baseball with a team OPS of .787 against left-handed pitchers. The Yankees are fifth at a clip of .812 against right-handed pitching.
