Urena: 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 6.0 K/9 and 5.4 BB/9 in 15 IP over 3 starts.

  • Last start (Sept. 17): Loss, 5-3, with 5 2/3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 6 K and 2 BB against the Boston Red Sox.

Prediction

Braves 10, Marlins 5

Money line (ML)

This might be a little nitty of me as the poker players would say but I am going to PASS ON THE MONEY LINE because it’s too expensive for me.

Urena wasn’t terrible in his only outing against the Braves (-168) this season and the Marlins (+150) are 3-4 against Atlanta, so they can certainly pull off an upset.

I like the Braves enough to put money on it but I’d prefer to chase the value of the run line.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

BRAVES -1.5 (+115) is the bet I am looking to make in this game. Atlanta’s lineup scores the most runs per game, hits for the second-best average and has the highest OPS in MLB.

The Marlins +1.5 (-139) have a bottom-10 pitching staff in those same categories and Urena struggles historically against Atlanta. This Braves lineup slashes .319/.399/.556 against him and MVP-contender 1B Freddie Freeman slashes .429/.515/1.071 with 4 home runs and 11 RBI in 28 at-bats versus Urena.

BET BRAVES -1.5 (+115).

New to sports betting? A $100 bet on the Braves -1.5 (+115) pays a $115 profit if Atlanta beats Miami by 2 or more runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

Wilson’s numbers aren’t great and this is just a fill-in start for an injured Cole Hamels. His stats on the record aren’t inspiring and we’ve already discussed how awesome Atlanta’s lineup is.

The Braves have the fourth-highest Over percentage in MLB (55.1%) and the Marlins are sixth (54.7%). In division games, Atlanta has the second- and Miami has the third-highest Over percentage behind the Washington Nationals (another NL East team).

These NL East games are slugfests. Marlins-Braves is going OVER 9.5 (-110).

Series: Miami leads 1-0.

RHP Sixto Sanchez vs. RHP Kyle Wright

Sanchez: 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 and 0.5 BB/9 in 19 IP over 3 GS.

  • Last start: Loss, 2-1, with 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 5 K and 2 BB versus the Toronto Blue Jays on Sept. 2.

Prediction

Marlins 8, Braves 5

Moneyline (ML)

The Marlins (+110) beat the Braves 5-4 in extra innings Monday, tying the season series, 2-2. The Braves (-121) have lost three of their last four games but had a five-game win streak prior to this recent stretch.

Despite losing his last outing, Sanchez has two quality starts in just three career starts and Wright has only completed four innings in one start this season. For whatever reason, the Marlins have played much better on the road (16-9) compared to home (2-9).

Also, BetMGM pricing this as evenly as they did should be an indication of why this is a good spot for Miami. Atlanta came into this season, and is playing like, the better team — yet Miami has a 48% implied win probability based on the moneyline.

BET MARLINS (+110). New to sports betting? A $10 bet on Marlins (+110) earns an $11 profit if Miami beats Atlanta.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS ON THE RUN LINE. I am not confident enough in Miami to lay all the vig in betting Marlins +1.5 (-189). Plus the alternate run line of Marlins -1.5 (+155) isn’t profitable for me.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 9 (-121) is being steamed up because the sharps see runs being scored in Marlins-Braves. For as good as Sanchez has looked he’s still just a rookie and he’s going against a top-notch Atlanta lineup. The Marlins have a 12-8-1 Over/Under record in road games and the Braves are 11-8-2 O/U at home.

Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Miami Marlins at Atlanta Braves sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Miami Marlins (17-18) look to improve upon their 15-9 road record when they pay a visit to the Atlanta Braves (24-16) Monday for the first game of a three-game series. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. ET at Truist Park. We analyze the Marlins-Braves betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Marlins at Braves: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Jose Urena vs. RHP Ian Anderson

Urena will be making his first appearance of the season Monday. He tested positive for COVID-19 in late July and has been at the Marlins’ alternate site since mid-August.

  • He posted a sub-4.00 ERA in both 2017 and 2018, but struggled to the tune of a 5.21 ERA in 2019.
  • Urena hasn’t had much success against the Braves in his career. He has made 16 appearances (13 starts) and compiled a 6.64 ERA with an ugly 1.5 K:BB and 1.6 HR/9.

Anderson has looked good in his first two starts, allowing just three earned runs across 12 innings against the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.

  • He has racked up 14 strikeouts against just three walks so far, while inducing an impressive 29 swinging strikes, including 17 in his last outing.
  • Anderson made 26 minor league starts in 2019, 21 of which came at Double-A. In all, he recorded a 3.38 ERA, with an 11.4 K/9, but an inflated 4.3 BB/9. He was particularly wild upon his promotion to Triple-A, walking 18 batters in 24 2/3 innings (6.6 BB/9).

Prediction

Braves 7, Marlins 3

Moneyline (ML)

  • Braves (-209)
  • Marlins (+185)

This is a high price to pay for a starter with just two big league games under his belt, but Anderson has been impressive, and the Atlanta offense has been swinging the bat exceptionally well lately, with 65 runs in their last eight games.

Urena isn’t likely to work especially deep into the game in his very first start of the season. When he leaves, he’ll be turning things over to a relief corps that is bottom two in the league in both FIP and K%. Back the BRAVES (-209).

New to sports betting? A winning $20.90 bet on the Dodgers would return a profit of $10.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

  • Marlins +1.5 (-121)
  • Braves -1.5 (+100)

The run line presents solid value, as the hot Atlanta bats stand a strong chance of having another good day, and winning by at least two runs. Side with the BRAVES -1.5 (+100).

Over/Under (O/U)

  • Over 9 (-110)
  • Under 9 (-110)

The Over is 6-0-2 in the Braves last eight games, and they can be expected to put some runs on the board against Urena and a weak Miami bullpen. On the other side, Anderson has been great in his first two starts, but does have a history of control problems, and can’t be expected to completely shut down the Miami offense.

The Marlins should be able to get a few runs across, so a slight lean to the OVER 9 (-110) is the recommendation for this contest.
