60 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 60 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 60 jersey number

The New England England Patriots are 60 days away from their 2023 regular season opener. So we’re continuing our countdown until kickoff celebration by listing every Patriots player that has worn the No. 60 jersey number.

The No. 60 is currently worn by Patriots offensive lineman David Andrews. Since joining in 2015, he has perhaps been the most notable player to wear the number for the organization. He has won two Super Bowls during his time with the team and looks to be a mainstay for the line again in 2023.

But there have also been others to wear the number throughout the history of the Patriots. Some have only worn it for one season, and it has been worn by both offensive and defensive players.

Here’s a look at all of the Patriots players that have worn No. 60 (via Pro Football Reference):

D.J. Reader, using Clemson connection, helped lure DL coach Marion Hobby to Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals used some connections to find their next DL coach.

It turns out the Cincinnati Bengals have a few players more than familiar with new defensive line coach Marion Hobby.

The Bengals announced the hire of Hobby on Saturday, though it might have never come together without a little help from defensive lineman D.J. Reader.

Hobby and Reader spent time together at Clemson and it goes deeper than that — Hobby knew all about the local high school player Reader during his days at Duke.

Here’s what he said about Reader and on the quick conversation they had about the Bengals, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:

“Great kid. A little sophomore. He was probably six-foot tall at that time … he played baseball, too. You didn’t see it then, but when I reunited with him at Clemson it was, ‘Well, look at here…I asked him straight up. You know me well. Do you think this is a good fit for me?’ He gave me confirmation it was.”

Rest assured Reader is happy about the move too:

“Super happy. Super happy. Really, really good guy. Good coach. He coached me all four years (at Clemson). Kind of crazy. I’ve known him since I was a young kid…Coaches hard. Guys come to work. His family is a priority. A real solid dude. He’s a tough coach. He’s funny. You have to come to work and go hard, but he’s also got some fun to him. He’s a very cool dude. He’s interesting. I’m a big fan of Hobby.”

One of the quieter criticisms of head coach Zac Taylor is a limited list of connections he can pull from — which is why we still vouch for the Bengals hiring Wade Phillips.

But flexing a player connection like this is a good move too, especially when it already gets a reaction like this in the locker room from one of the team’s most important pieces.

Provided the Bengals make some more moves along the defensive front seven, it’s clear Hobby has the reputation to make the unit into something special.

The Cincinnati Bengals made another coaching staff hire under Zac Taylor on Saturday, announcing the arrival of Marion Hobby as defensive line coach.

Hobby, 54, arrives with six years of experience at the NFL level and will command the D.J. Reader-led unit in 2020.

“We are excited for Marion to join the Bengals,”  Taylor said in a statement from the team. “He brings great experience and is a perfect fit with our staff and defensive line room. We look forward to welcoming him and his family to Cincinnati.”

Hobby has two decades of experience at the college level with programs like Tennessee and Clemson. After, he spent time with Jacksonville and Miami before coming to Cincinnati to replace Nick Eason.

This is the third noteworthy move for the coaching staff after the team re-hired Frank Pollack to replace Jim Turner as offensive line coach and Troy Walters was promoted to wideouts coach.

Dolphins part ways with defensive line coach Marion Hobby

Dolphins part ways with defensive line coach Marion Hobby

The Miami Dolphins’ exit interviews and self evaluation this week have yielded some important changes for the organization. Miami’s most prominent coaching change arrived on Wednesday morning with the announcement that offensive coordinator Chan Gailey was resigning from his position, leaving the Dolphins looking for their third play caller in as many seasons under the watch of Brian Flores.

But we’ve now learned that Miami has another coaching staff change looming — this one on the defensive side of the football. And while it isn’t as major as the change Miami experienced at the end of the 2019 season when defensive coordinator Patrick Graham left for New York, it is still a significant move:

The Miami Dolphins have announced this afternoon that they’ve “mutually parted ways” with defensive line coach Marion Hobby.

Hobby came to Miami in 2019 after several years of working with the Clemson Tigers program and a short stop in Jacksonville with the Jaguars from 2017-2018; and his unit up front served as one of the forces within the Dolphins’ defensive unit this season. On a number of Miami’s biggest plays, it was defensive linemen like Christian Wilkins, Raekwon Davis or Zach Sieler who stepped up to help force wins in the trenches and create critical plays for the Dolphins.

Hobby was among the Dolphins coaches to miss time this season due to a flurry of COVID-19 cases among the staff — he was not on the sideline for Week 9 and Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Miami will now have a second vacancy to fill on their staff; if the team’s willingness to dip into the college pool last season for positional candidates is any indication, the Dolphins are likely to have plenty of interviews awaiting them as they look to fill the void left with Hobby’s departure this winter.
