The Oklahoma Sooners are known for offense, especially after the arrival of Lincoln Riley in 2015. Since that time, OU has put up some record numbers as they have secured six-straight Big 12 championships. The team has seen countless quarterbacks in contention for the Heisman Memorial Trophy. Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray took home the prize while Jalen Hurts finished his college career as a finalist under the guidance of Riley.
This upcoming season Spencer Rattler will get his shot at being the next quarterback to contend for the annual award. In order for him to be on the podium by the season’s end, he will need some help from the whole team. Rattler has plenty of returning production with Marvin Mims, Theo Wease, Jadon Haselwood, Drake Stoops, Austin Stogner, Jeremiah Hall, among others.
Last season the Sooners saw the emergence of Mims, as he led the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. ESPN discussed a potential transfer or incoming freshman that could make an impact this coming season. As per usual, all eyes are on the Oklahoma offense and another stud wide receiver.
What ESPN Says…
Hey, here’s a surprise: Oklahoma is going to be scary good on offense. Marvin Mims was a star as a freshman, and Mario Williams Jr. looks to be this year’s star addition. Quarterback Spencer Rattler recently said Williams looks like he could be the fastest player on the team in spring drills, and Riley said the Sooners weren’t happy with the performance of the overall WR group last year and that everyone would start on even footing this year.
What Spencer Rattler Says…
“He [Mario Williams] has looked very good. Probably the fastest, one of the fastest guys on the team for sure. Quickest, probably. His get off the line is really impressive. He can catch the ball, run routes, get open, block- he can do it all; take back punts, kicks. So, I’m excited to see all the factors he brings to this offense.”
