Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Seattle Mariners (64-56) continue their three-game set at Globe Life Stadium against the Texas Rangers (42-77) Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Mariners vs. Rangers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Seattle beat Texas in the series opener 3-1 Wednesday behind a strong performance from starting LHP Tyler Anderson who had 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 BB and 4 K.

Season series: Mariners lead 11-6.

LHP Marco Gonzales makes his 17th start for the Mariners. Gonzales is 4-5 with a 4.35 ERA (89 IP, 43 ER), 1.26 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 this year.

  • Last outing: Win, 3-1, CG, 9 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB and 9 K against the Rangers Thursday.
  • Gonzales is 1-1 against Texas this season with a 4.42 ERA (18 1/3 IP, 9 ER), 15 H, 3 BB and 17 K in three starts.
  • vs. Rangers on the current roster (94 PA): 2.07 FIP with a .242 batting average (BA), .281 wOBA, .377 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 25.5 K% and 85.6 mph exit velocity (EV).

RHP Matt Foltynewicz gets the nod for the Rangers. Foltynewicz is 2-11 with a 5.66 ERA (124 IP, 78 ER), 1.30 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 in 23 starts.

  • Last outing: 7 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 0 BB and 6 K in Texas’s 3-1 loss at the Mariners Thursday.
  • Foltynewicz is 0-3 against Seattle this season with a 4.13 ERA (32 2/3 IP, 15 ER), 0.95 WHIP and 3.2 K/BB in five starts.
  • vs. Mariners on the current roster (122 PA): 5.06 FIP with a .207 BA, .291 wOBA, .399 xSLG, 17.2 K% and 88.9 mph EV.

Prediction

Mariners 5, Rangers 2

Money line (ML)

Slight “LEAN” to the MARINERS (-180) for a quarter unit only because there’s a line freeze with more than 80% of the action being on Seattle but the money line hasn’t moved since the opener.

The other reason for the “lean” is the price pushing itself out of the normal value range.

However, the Mariners have an edge in the three most important phases of the game (bullpen and starting pitching and hitting) hence Seattle being a massive favorite.

Also, Seattle is in contention for an AL Wild Card berth and Texas has nothing to play for so I’d rather parlay the pricy MARINERS (-180) with another favorite for a better payout.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The MARINERS -1.5 (-105) have been a great team to back on the run line on the road (35-23 ATS), in AL West contests (28-22 ATS), and as road favorites (3-2 ATS).

Conversely, the Rangers are 27-33 ATS at home, 22-23 ATS as home underdogs and 28-29 ATS in games against divisional foes.

However, Texas is covering nearly 50% of its games in the situational trends listed above and three of the five Mariners-Rangers meetings Foltynewicz has started were decided by one run.

“LEAN” to the MARINERS -1.5 (-105) for a half unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the UNDER 8.5 (+100) for 1 unit because the Mariners-Rangers have cashed the Under in four of their last five meetings and both lineups rank in the bottom 10 in wRC+ and wOBA this month with the Rangers being in dead-last across most hitting metrics.

Furthermore, the Mariners and Rangers combined for seven or fewer runs in four of Foltynewicz’s five starts against Seattle and in two of Gonzales’ three starts vs. Texas.

Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (36-67) host the Seattle Mariners (56-48) at Globe Life Field Saturday for the second game of a three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Mariners vs. Rangers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Seattle beat Texas in the series opener Friday, 9-5, as Mariners rookie CF Jarred Kelenic batted 2-for-5 with 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

Season series: Mariners lead 8-3.

LHP Tyler Anderson is Seattle’s projected starter. Anderson is 5-8 with a 4.35 ERA (103 1/3 IP, 50 ER), 1.20 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 in 18 starts.

  • The Mariners picked up Anderson via a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates July 27 in exchange for a couple of minor league prospects.
  • Last outing: No-decision with 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 1 BB and 6 K in an 11-6 loss at the Arizona Diamondbacks July 20.

LHP Taylor Hearn is on the mound for the Rangers. Hearn is 2-3 with a 4.41 ERA (49 IP, 24 ER), 1.37 WHIP, 4.6 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 over two starts and 29 relief appearances.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB and 3 K in Texas’s 3-1 loss at the Houston Astros Sunday.
  • 2021 home splits: 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA (20 1/3 IP, 10 ER), 1.57 WHIP and 1.7 K/BB in one start and 13 bullpen outings.

  • Money line: Mariners -135 (bet $135 to win $100) | Rangers +110 (bet $100 to win $110)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Mariners -1.5 (+120) | Rangers +1.5 (-145)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Mariners 8, Rangers 3

Money line (ML)

Simply put, Seattle’s implied win probability based on the MARINERS (-135) price is 57.14% and Seattle wins this game two-thirds of the time.

Even though Anderson is a “bottom of the rotation” type starter he’s got to be jacked up to be moved from the dumpster fire that is Pittsburgh’s organization to a Seattle squad that’s in the thick of the AL Wild Card hunt.

Furthermore, Hearn will be used Saturday as an “opener” for Texas’s bullpen day as a replacement for now-former starting RHP Kyle Gibson who was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies Friday.

Not only does no Gibson hurt the Rangers’ chances today but Hearn will be turning this game over in the early innings to a struggling Texas bullpen.

For instance, the Rangers relievers have the seventh-worst SIERA, sixth-worst xFIP and the 24th-ranked K-BB% since the All-Star Game.

Speaking of “struggling”, Texas’s lineup is by far the least productive unit thus far in the second half of the season.

The Rangers’ 45 wRC+ ranks dead-last and the next closest team is the Colorado Rockies with an 83 wRC+ following the All-Star Break.

BET 1 unit on the MARINERS (-135).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Slight “LEAN” to the MARINERS -1.5 (+120) for a tiny wager – if at all – because the Rangers have been getting crushed over the past 20 games. Texas has lost 17 of the last 20 games and 16 of those losses have been by at least 2 runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 8.5 (-115) for a half unit since there’s been “sharp” line movement on the total and the Over has cashed in five straight Mariners-Rangers meetings in Texas.

This game opened with an 8-run total before the market steamed it up to the current price and the Over 8.5 (-115) is juiced, which suggests there’s still money coming in on the Over.

Also, these division foes have a combined 47-37-1 O/U record in games against fellow AL West competition.

Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Seattle Mariners (55-48) travel Friday to Globe Life Field to start a three-game set with the Texas Rangers (36-66) at 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Mariners vs. Rangers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Mariners lead 7-3.

Seattle has yet to officially announce its starter but it is expected to be RHP Logan Gilbert. Gilbert is 4-2 with a 3.81 ERA (56 2/3 IP, 24 ER), 1.04 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 10.6 K/9 across 12 starts in his rookie season.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 2 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB and 5 K in Seattle’s 5-4 victory Saturday over the Oakland Athletics.
  • Gilbert earned a no-decision in Seattle’s 5-4 victory over Texas July 2 with a stat line of 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB and 6 K.

LHP Kolby Allard takes the hill for the Rangers. Allard is 2-8 with a 4.71 ERA (72 2/3 IP, 38 ER), 1.16 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 10 starts and 10 relief appearances.

  • Last outing: Loss, 7-3, with 4 IP, 7 ER, 7 H, 1 BB and 5 K at the Houston Astros July 23.
  • Allard is 0-1 this year against Seattle with a 3.86 ERA (7 IP, 3 ER), 4 H, 1 BB and 6 K in one start and one bullpen outing.
  • vs. Mariners on the current roster (41 plate appearances): 7.33 FIP with a .256 BA, .375 wOBA, .540 expected slugging percentage, 24.4 K% and 89.7 mph exit velocity.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Mariners -1.5 (+115) | Rangers +1.5 (-140)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Prediction

Mariners 4, Rangers 1

Money line (ML)

GIMME the MARINERS (-145) for 1 unit because I expect Gilbert to bounce back from his disappointing start against Oakland this past weekend.

Gilbert was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and the third-ranked prospect in Seattle’s loaded farm system. He’s faced a lot tougher lineups than Texas’s and has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in eight starts this season.

Furthermore, the Rangers just traded the only All-Star in their lineup in Joey Gallo, and they’ve been abysmal following the All-Star Game.

Texas’s lineup has the only negative WAR in the majors in the second half and the Rangers are the only team with less than 10 home runs in the second half as well, with just 4.

There’s no question that Texas has the worst lineup in MLB at the moment and this is an absolute get-right spot for Gilbert, and for Seattle whose back-to-back losses to the Houston Astros this week snapped a four-game win streak.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Rangers have lost 16 of their previous 19 games and 15 of those losses were by at least 2 runs. Also, Seattle has covered its only game as a road favorite this season and Texas has the fifth-worst cover rate as a home dog at 17-18 ATS.

The wiser play is to just lay it with Seattle’s money line but I do not hate a light wager on the MARINERS -1.5 (+115).

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Under 8 (-110) because the Rangers are 13-31-1 O/U as a home underdog this season and Seattle’s lineup ranks in the bottom-10 against left-handed pitching in wRC+, wOBA and BB/K.

Also, the Mariners haven’t officially named a starter so at the moment “Logan’s bounce-back effort against the Rangers” is based on him actually getting out there. That being said, Seattle’s bullpen ranks second in WAR.
