Mariners at Padres: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Taijuan Walker vs. RHP Dinelson Lamet

Walker has posted a 2-2 record, 4.00 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 25 strikeouts across 27 innings over five starts, serving up five homers and issuing eight walks.

  • Walker is trending in the right direction, posting quality starts in consecutive outings for the first time this season.
  • Walker tied a season best with seven innings against the Dodgers in a win Aug. 19, allowing three earned runs – all on solo homers – with four hits, a walk and eight strikeouts.

Lamet rolls in with a 2-1 record, 1.89 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 45 strikeouts across 33 1/3 innings in his six outings.

  • Lamet is tied for fifth in the league in strikeouts, and he has struck out at least eight batters in each of his past three contests.
  • Lamet has faced the M’s only once in his career. He allowed just two hits and four walks with 12 strikeouts across seven scoreless innings in a win Aug. 6, 2019 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle

Prediction

Padres 5, Mariners 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Padres (-223) have been slamming opponents left and right. Literally.  However, the Mariners (+195) tuned them up in the opener, 8-3, providing a cautionary tale of why you never bet a favorite with a line over -170 or so. Despite the fact the M’s have won four in a row, and seven of the past nine against the Padres, you cannot trust them, either. AVOID.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on San Diego will return a profit of just $4.48 if they win, while a $10 wager on Seattle will fetch a profit of $19.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The better bet if you like the PADRES (-1.5, -106) is smashing the run line, as they’re essentially even money. San Diego lost Tuesday, snapping a seven-game win streak. However, in their past seven victories they have won six games by at least two runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 8 (-110) is worth playing lightly. While Seattle is averaging 7.3 runs per game during their four-game winning streak, and San Diego ranks fifth in the majors with 5.35 runs per game, we have two solid pitchers on the bump. It won’t be a low-scoring affair, but we also won’t see a lot of fireworks, either.
