4 Vikings players to watch in Week 6 vs. Bears

Keep an eye on these players against the Bears

The Minnesota Vikings are facing a pivotal game in week six against their NFC North division rival Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon.

It’s a huge game for the Vikings and Bears, as they both sit at 1-4 and a loss will crater their playoff chances. Both teams had aspirations of a playoff berth but it hasn’t looked like it’s going to happen to this point.

Despite their record, the underlying metrics for the Vikings look good. They have played good football outside of their 12 turnovers and -9 turnover differential. That fact gives them a glimmer of hope for a potential playoff berth.

Going into Sunday’s game, these four players are going to be major factors in the Vikings getting a win.

The good, bad, and ugly after Vikings 27-20 loss vs. Chiefs

After a tough loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, @SpoonfulOfSport looks at the good, bad and ugly

It was another heartbreaking one-possession loss for the Minnesota Vikings, as they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20.

Whether you want to blame the first-quarter fumble that turned into a Chiefs touchdown, the slew of injuries the Vikings suffered, or the poor situational awareness the team showed at times, there’s plenty of blame to go around.

But, at the end of the day, the blame game gets you nowhere. The Vikings sit at 1-4 on the season, and are now facing the grim reality that the season is likely over, for all intents and purposes, slightly more than one quarter of the way through.

Now, the front office is left in the unenviable position of figuring out what the best way to rebound from this season is. It would seem foolish for the team to be a buyer at the NFL trade deadline. Kirk Cousins time in purple is almost assuredly coming to a close, and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah needs to figure out what “life after Kirk” looks like in Minneapolis — and how they are going to navigate getting to that point. Right now the team has a top 5 selection in the 2024 NFL draft, and the 2024 class at the position looks strong.

But all of that discussion is for the future. As for the now, there weren’t a whole lot of positives from yesterday’s loss. Let’s dive into the Good, bad and ugly.

The Good, Bad and Ugly after Vikings 21-13 win vs. Panthers

There was more good than bad and ugly on Sunday afternoon writes @SpoonfulofSport in his Vikings Wire debut

It wasn’t easy, and it was far from pretty, but the Minnesota Vikings are finally in the win column. It was a struggle in the passing game, but the running game came in surprisingly clutch given the unit’s struggles so far this season.

Once again, turnovers were somewhat of a bugaboo, but in spite of some costly mistakes, the Vikings took care of business and got their first win of the season on Sunday, against the Carolina Panthers.

A tough match-up with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs looms on the horizon for the 1-3 Vikings. But before we get to that, let’s take a moment to look back on the good, bad and ugly from the Vikings’ first victory.

Defensive PFF grades from Vikings’ 21-13 win vs. Panthers

The defensive PFF grades are interesting from the Vikings win over the Panthers

The Minnesota Vikings found a way to win their first game of the season on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers by a score of 21-13.

The game saw a lot of interesting things on Sunday and it started with a Kirk Cousins pick-six that gave the Panthers an early lead. From there, the Vikings found a way to take the lead in the second half and win their first game of the season.

When we look at the team’s performance, the film is the most important, but understanding other metrics is necessary as well. The PFF grades are in and are very interesting for the Vikings defense.

Stock up, Stock down from Vikings Week 4 win vs. Panthers

Multiple Vikings saw their stock rise and fall on Sunday

There is still hope, ladies and gentlemen. The Minnesota Vikings squeaked a 21-13 win against the Carolina Panthers.

With all their games ending within one score, the Vikings are now 1-3 in one-score games on the season. This win was necessary to keep Minnesota’s hopes for a postseason berth alive. An 0-3 hole is difficult enough to dig yourself out of. An 0-4 start would have been virtually impossible.

Getting this win will be a good momentum boost as their biggest test, a game against the Kansas City Chiefs, is next Sunday.

In a game Minnesota had to have, some players’ stocks rose while others took a hit.

Analyzing Vikings’ final injury report for Week 4 against Panthers

The Minnesota Vikings received some good news on their final injury report ahead of their Week 4 matchup against the Panthers.

The Minnesota Vikings will look for their first win on Sunday when they face off against the Carolina Panthers beginning at 12 p.m. central.

While the Vikings likely won’t know the status of a few players before the weekend, the team’s final injury report offers some good news.

Center Garrett Bradbury and outside linebacker Marcus Davenport are both listed as questionable for the game. The two missed the Vikings’ last game with injuries.

The Vikings have four total players listed on their final injury report ahead of the game against the Panthers. We have all of that broken down here.

Kevin O’Connell provides injury updates on multiple Vikings

O’Connell gave us information on multiple Vikings who are injured

Going into week four against the Carolina Panthers, the Minnesota Vikings are set to play their second consecutive game against a winless opponent. They will be doing so the most injured they have been thus far in 2023.

Every team deals with injuries, but who the Vikings have had get injured over the last few weeks has been frustrating to say the least.

On Wednesday afternoon, head coach Kevin O’Connell provided injury updates on multiple Vikings.

Vikings Week 3 injury report: no new names added to Thursday’s report

No new names were added to Thursday’s injury report, but one player did see a change in practice availability.

The Minnesota Vikings released another injury report on Thursday, and while the report offers a change of status for a few players, no new players saw their names added.

The Thursday injury report is as follows:

  • Center Garrett Bradbury (back): Limited (upgrade from DNP)
  • OT Christian Darrisaw (ankle): Limited
  • EDGE Marcus Davenport (ankle): DNP
  • LB Jordan Hicks (shin): Limited
  • S Josh Metellus (shoulder): Limited
  • WR Jailen Nailor (hamstring): Placed on IR

The biggest storyline is the upgrade in Bradbury’s practice status. After missing last week’s game, Bradbury appears to be nearing a return to the field. It’s unclear if Bradbury will be active for this week’s game against the Chargers.

Marcus Davenport continuing to miss practice isn’t a good sign for his chances to play this week, and it’s worth monitoring his availability as the weekend nears.

Metellus suffered his injury early in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles but did return to the game later. While that’s a good sign for his status this week, it’s possible that the injury began to linger and it keeps him out for this game.

Vikings Week 3 injury report has six names

Marcus Davenport and Christian Darrisaw highlight first injury report

The Minnesota Vikings have released their first injury report for their week three matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers and it includes six names.

  • C Garrett Bradbury (back)-Did not practice
  • OLB Marcus Davenport (ankle)-Did not practice
  • LT Christian Darrisaw (ankle)-Limited
  • ILB Jordan Hicks (shin)-Limited
  • S Josh Metellus (shoulder)-Limited
  • WR Jalen Nailor (hamstring)-Limited

When looking at the injury report, it’s concerning that Davenport didn’t practice at all after playing in four snaps on Thursday night. That number alone is concerning, but it’s frustrating to see him already have this much of a setback.

Darrisaw and Metellus both suffered their injuries on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, Darrisaw re-injured himself and Metellus hurt himself on the third play of the game.

Nailor dealt with hamstring injuries throughout training camp and seeing them come back is frustrating. Hicks is a new one that we didn’t previously know about, but it’s something to monitor moving forward.

The injury report will evolve over the next few days and we will keep you updated.
